Buffy Fridays (On Saturday)! Season 2 Episode 2 First Time Reaction!

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xCPVKPHTbmPB1ahYRHsp7dYr1MZIjOUh/view?usp=share_link

Hi guys! First a bit of house-keeping - I have updated the first 3 episodes of the first season so now they do not require your own copy to sync to! :)

Ok.... I I REALLY liked this one, guys.  I don't know if I am in the minority, but there was something about the story (and that twist) that really hit me in the feels.

Oh! I should also say, if you are checking this out straight away, you may need to download it to watch it (processing is taking an ice age again, sorry).  If you can't, hopefully it will be streamable in a few hours!

Love you, guys!

Buffy Fridays (On Saturday)! Season 2 Episode 2 First Time Reaction!

A lot of people don't rate this episode I would give it a 5/10 but a Buffy 5/10 is 7 or 8/10 of other shows, on a side note as a guy who played Rugby for over ten years and American Football for six and love them both I agree they are very different American Football is more technical but very stop-start Rugby is way faster harder on the body and requires greater stamina levels

Oooh, Jake you are bang on the money!! (In America!)

"In America!" - the thing I know that from is Yugioh: The Abridged Series, although I'm sure there's a far more cultured reference somewhere XD

I'm sensing that many of the people here share my lack of enthusiasm for this episode. Honestly, I think it's because the rest of us anticipate things you cannot and, as a result, undervalue this episode. So, as much as you worry about the "community" being in disagreement with your opinions... First of all, don't. I doubt you can love something no one else in the community ever has. Some of us are hardcore Angel fans, others not so much. Some of us appreciate Xander; others, including me, simply cannot. And yet we all manage to get along with each other. Maybe because the show was kinda born at the same time as the internet so most of us were just thrilled to meet like-minded fans and we skipped over differences of opinions much more easily. But also, I would be far more nervous to have a difference of opinions over other "more important" episodes than this one. And this one was good. In fact, as always, watching you loving it made me appreciate it even more. The problem with gaining perspective is that you sometimes loose the trees for the forest, you know? This was a better episode than I remembered. I'll still give this episode a 6/10. But that's not because I don't like it. There are just other ones ahead, that's all. :)

Interesting point and I think I do agree with you so I’ll try not to do that in future (I edited the last part out, though he may have already seen it)

Hey, just a gentle reminder that things like "can't wait for next week" and "just wait until a few episodes from now" really ride the line in terms of spoiler territory. We don't want to establish expectations. Let's let him enjoy the show for himself. :-)

This is definitely a good one to revisit. I have a couple of episodes of this show that I find truly hard to reconcile myself with, but this isn't really one of them. However, I do tend to skip it when I'm rewatching. That said, the mom's performance still gets me every time - how it's infuriating that she's neglecting her son but also so clear what made her this way. And that creeper filming all the girls who clearly did not want him to... yeesh.

I really enjoy this one but not in my favourites of the season by any means. Not a shameful pick I think it’s much improved over some of the after school special type monster episodes because it has real emotional depth to it. If I’m doing a rewatch, I may skip depending on my mood though, for some reason this episode sticks in my mind so well that it always feels like I’ve watched it recently. I think this episode shows the the element of Xander’s character that people really dislike, with the weird sexual comments etc. I understand he is a flawed person and I can look past it even if it makes me feel icky lol. I can’t wait for the next episode!!!

This is an episode that I really don't like, and in the scheme of Buffy, I'd give it a 1. In the scheme of all shows I watch, a 2. It's one of the few episodes that I would skip without second though if I were re-watching the series on my own. It's great that you can appreciate it for what it is, though. Also, you can't get good Mexican food everywhere here. We had some really, really good places where I lived in Southern CA, but now I live in the Plains. It's a completely different ballgame here.

Haha, I’m so glad! I didn’t come up with it, I read it in the comments of some other reaction, but yeah! That’s TOTALLY what Angel was doing 😂😂

I love how you referred to some episodes as "side quests" they don't push the full story but are great episodes on their own.

Shiby23

I really enjoyed your reaction to this episode. Your face of shock when Daryl appeared! love the twist on a classic monster. A lot of these early "monster-of-the-week" episodes (AKA side-quests) are really well written. Still only a 7.3/10 .

Your "Angel's new wardrobe theory" is now canon in my head. Thanks for this :)

Amanda S

It's nice when a show lets you empathize with the baddies, while showing you they are clearly evil. I much prefer evil with a reason, than evil just for the sake of being evil. I need my villain backstories!

Amanda S

I'm so happy you enjoyed this episode so much! Do NOT worry about what the fandom thinks, EVER! Getting to see your fresh, genuine, and awesome reactions is what makes it so fun. This is an "average" episode for me, but I got new joy from seeing it through your eyes. The fandom does consider this a below-average episode. I can give more context to that later; right now it's spoilers. But it's not bad at all! It's a fun riff on Bride Of Frankenstein, and Chris's story is tragic, especially when you see how he lost his mom as well as his brother. And everything about Giles and Jenny is wonderful. Moar Calendiles!!!! Angel's new wardrobe is certainly a change. I think it's part of him being jealous of Xander. Which means he looked at Xander and said, "hm, what is it about this lovable inappropriate doof that Buffy likes? Is it the clothes? It must be the clothes. Where can I buy a khaki jacket?" XD XD XD IIRC, Giles' actor actually had to stop being in Jonathan Creek because he got the role on Buffy! I like Alan Davies on QI, so I tried Jonathan Creek and ended up watching the whole show because the plots are so clever. I live in Texas and I'm (jokingly) offended by the idea that you can get good Mexican food everywhere in the States. Not north of the Mason-Dixon line, you don't! Nor, for that matter, east of the Mississippi. I went to uni in Tennessee and I missed good Mexican food.
