2021-09-20 20:19:51 +0000 UTCBefore ya'll watch season 2 - The second OVA 'Frozen Bonds' gives backstory on what Emilia's life was like before she met Roswaal and got involved in the royal selection. It gives more understanding about Emilia and raises more questions, but many of them will be answered in season 2 so its a good idea to watch it. The first OVA 'Memory Snow' is more light hearted and only has like 3 conversations that hint at things that will be revealed in season 2 so its not as necessary, but it is a pleasant watch. In conclusion, they are both cannon, but only the second one, 'Frozen Bonds' is considered required viewing by most of the community.

(this is basically making friends with a spirit and having it do magic for you or be a power source for you to do magic) Subaru has an affinity for Shadow magic, so like a mage he can use his own mana to do shadow based magic. He also seems to have an affinity for spirits as he easily got along with Puck (a great spirit).
