HC:H | Volume 3 Edits & Your Feedback
Added 2025-03-06 11:25:30 +0000 UTCHey, everyone!
I'm wrapping up Volume 3 in the next couple of weeks, and as I look back, I realize just how much time has passed since I started. The first chapter of Handyman Vol. 3 went up on October 30th—it's now March. That’s four months of weekly chapter releases, and as you can imagine, keeping everything consistent can be tricky.
Reading and editing individual chapters is one thing, but going through the entire book in one go is a completely different experience. And after reviewing the draft so far, I feel this volume will need the most significant round of edits I've ever done.
Here are some of the planned changes based on your feedback:
Affection Increases: Adding more moments where Jack’s interactions with Snowy influence their bond.
Repetition Check: Ensuring there aren’t too many similar crafting sequences back to back, and that they aren't overly descriptive.
Smoother Transitions: Making sure time skips aren’t jarring and that the opening lines of each chapter reorient the reader properly.
Breach Camp Expansion: Adding a scene where Jack builds a tent and a mud hut.
Skill & Recipe Cleanup: Ensuring that all recipes and skills Jack acquires are properly explored—or removing them if they aren’t relevant.
Crafting Challenges: Making Jack’s experiments and crafting attempts more demanding so his progress feels earned.
The Slayer’s Looming Threat: Tightening the timeframe for Rob’s proof to increase the tension and have the Slayer closing in on the team more aggressively.
But this is also where you come in. What else do you think could be improved? Have you noticed any issues in Volume 3 that stood out to you? Now’s the time to share your thoughts so we can make this the best version of the story.
Looking forward to your feedback!

That's super insightful! Thank you so much for all the pointers you've been giving me lately.

As you said, the breach time is stretching IRL and it's getting hard to tell how long they've been playing. That one team got to wave 88 but we're still either late teens or early 20s. A few more time markers would help!
