December WIP Update

Hey Everyone!

It's been pretty light on WIPs the last month or so and I wanted to let you know why.

I have definitely been spending a lot of time on the remixes that went up over the last few weeks (here, here, and here). But another big reason is because I've been spending a lot of my time on 2 big projects that I'm under some degree of NDA for.

Before the end of the year I want to give you a glimpse into one of those projects. It's a 5-song, themed EP that I'm writing. The versions of the songs that I'm showing you today in the 2 WIPs that are going into this EP (Impunity & The Storm) are missing some layers that I can't include right now. Most notably, each song will include some amount of dialogue that relates to the underlying theme (think link Another World). Alright, let's get going!

0:00 - Impunity: This is a Melodic Dubstep song that sets the tone for the EP - serious, yet hopeful. It will be the intro track and it serves as an overview as you dip your toe into the EP. I wanted to have something similar in structure/arrangement as Mount Olympus, but with a slightly more serious tone. Much of the sound design and arrangement here is complete, I just need to brush up the quality.

3:50 - The Storm: This is the second song for the EP and it's about riding out a terrible storm on a ship in the ocean. I wanted this song to feel very big and overpowering. Each section represents a stage of the storm. The intro is when the rain starts and you can see darker clouds in the distance. The "verse" is when the waves begin to pick up and in this section, the arp represents the pattering of rain on the outside of the ship as the storm picks up. The break/build is when the realization sets in that the only thing you can do is ride the storm out. And the drop is the roughest part of the storm. I'm very happy with how this came out but there's a lot to do sound design wise to really bring the idea to life.

7:48 - Chase: This started out as part of the EP but once the idea came together it just didn't fit. It's a pretty cool progression/melody though and I really like how it doesn't start on the downbeat. It really throws you off in a good way. One of my main goals with this song was to write a DnB song with mostly plucks or pluck-like instruments (Melody, Chords, Bass). Though really simple, it came out pretty cool! Might revisit if I have time.

As always thank you for your support - I hope you had a fantastic Holiday! See you with more music in the New Year :)

I'll have to listen when I get home because Another World is my FAVORITE song and the one that exposed me to AN 😊 I have been trying to write a note to you, hopefully this evening if the kids let me, about my husband's and my thoughts on your music 😊 Hope you also had a wonderful Holiday! 💜 -Jenn
