Weekly Update #24 - September

Hey Everyone!

This week I spent the majority of my time making final adjustments to September (it's finished!) and I've also got an update on Blue Moon! I'll keep this much shorter than last week. Here we gooo!

0:00 - September:

This song is finished... finally. I'll be spending a bit of time Mon/Tues on the reference mastering and any last minute fixes to mix but other than that it's done. Interestingly, I finished this on Friday (September 20) and that means this song took exactly 1 year to finish since the original version was written September 20, 2018. I thought that was neat haha.

A couple notes - I really like how this turned out. Over the last week, I spent a lot of time on sound design, smoothing out the arrangement/pacing, and focused mainly on creating interesting single instruments/sounds (as opposed to layering). I think that really lended to a tight, coherent mix. Pretty happy with this!

As soon as I finish the final master I'll be posting it here for you to download - so expect a link to DL this week!

3:29 - Blue Moon (Revisited)

So this is a project I revisited later in the week. Overall I really like the idea of this track but something substantial was missing from it ... it just felt cheap and overall not something I'd like to release.

I spent some time with some different guitar patches and I honestly think the soft-synth guitar patches just sound too fake and it was really throwing me off. So I started a new version of the project and tried a few things and ended up with this file. It's got a really good feel for the verse, I think, but I'm not sure about the drop.

Also, the drums were really throwing me off and I think I need to redo all of them. I tried a few new ideas on this version but I think it's really pointed me in the right direction of what kind of feel I want for the drums, arrangement, and overall pacing on this track.

I actually named this bounce "Is this better? I dunno" when I exported so I'm curious to hear your thoughts on it!

As I said at the beginning of September, this month is all about pushing through to finish all the projects I have that are currently works-in-progress. And we're really making progress here!
