Summer discussion club.

One of the most ambiguous character of the game. Some of you love him, other – hate. So, we want to ask you – if Cupid is real?

Even within our small development party there are different opinions. And what do you think?

# 1. Sure. Cupid is real, like all the other alcoholic demons.

# 2. Of course, not! It’s just Sam’s hallucination, creation of his alcohol damaged brain.

#3. Sam is Cupid himself. Strictly speaking, Cupid is a dark side of Sam’s personality, and everything that Cupid says or acts is Sam by his own.

We want to ask you not to limit yourself with simple vote. Please, share your ideas in comments below. You may also write, do you like Cupid or not. ^_^

I think that's the first time I've ever used the word 'sinful'.

PaddyOFurniture

You are right. I am assuming that. It's pretty much the definition of a demon. There may be all sorts of other spirits and they may just be using 'demon' as a shorthand in this case. However, Cupid is constantly influencing and enabling Sam to make 'sinful' decisions. He could be just giving Sam what he thinks is good advice. He could be just wanting to have fun. Or he could be wanting to gain control over Sam. Any way you slice it Cupid has his own agenda and he may not have Sam's best interests at heart.

PaddyOFurniture

You're assuming that demons are sinister beings that just want to tempt men into losing their eternal SOUUUUUULLLLLLLLS. Why can't a demon just be another type of being? Perhaps they're drawn to people that have problematic morals, but in the world that they're creating that doesn't have to mean hell and damnation.

Dinker

All kidding aside, if Cupid is real and a real demon then their relationship suddenly becomes a lot less of a joke. Now Cupid is dangerous. The funny looks and the jokes now are probably an act to make Sam think he's harmless, lulling Sam into a false sense of security. The stakes become much, much higher.

PaddyOFurniture

If he is real he probably knows all the bad thoughts Sam is having and uses them against him. He is a demon after all.

PaddyOFurniture

What can I say? I like Cupid! A perverted alcoholic demon... That's funny!

Murkle

I like the idea of him being real, but the other options are pretty good in themselves. When it comes down to it, based on a load of other comments this is pretty fun to discuss. Plus what does it say about Sam? But look forward to seeing what may happen.

Stenv

I think Cupid should absolutely be real. My take on him is that he's a parasitic demon attracted to people who wallow in their negative emotions, people who drink large amounts of alocohol fit the bill perfectly, so people just call them alcohol demons as a short-hand. No matter what route you take in the game, drinker or not, I would highly suggest having a chance to exercise him for good. Though if you're a drinker you might need to do it several times, or the ritual is way more expensive or something because he's so deeply latched onto you.

Slicerness

I think I would prefer something something between 1 & 3. Cupid is dark side of Sams personality *made* real ('cause you know...magic). That way Cupid ceases to exist when Sam sobers up but can really do some things without Sams presence. Plus I find uncertainty of Cupids existence intriguing :)

Kazoo

hes funny but annoying. I like his presence to inform me of the goings on in the world but sometimes he takes things too far. to say he is real may or may not be true depending on the rules of this universe. most of the time that cupid does something can be explained away (i.e. him calling for an "actress" and spending the rest of Sam's money) but it doesn't explain why he has no memory of it

percy Jackson

I prefer option 1 because it fits into this world and the first part of the game. Cupid didnt know that Sam was a witchhunter.

Plaron

But i kind of also agree that him being real also fits the game, with demons and stuff in the world so :) ...

Alice

2 and 3 are too predictable and overplayed really i would like it more if the cupid was real and also it would be out of place in this game

Rodrigo Elias Cosendey

This is the way i view it in the game! I think it kind of fits :D its mysterious like so many other stuff in this game!

Alice

I like the idea of keeping it ambiguous, with an air of mystery as to whether Cupid is real or a figment of Sam's imagination.

Jim Beam

It could be a combination of the three. Cupid was a hallucination from Sam's alcoholism and represents and expresses Sam's dark side but has now become real. Weird stuff can happen in magical worlds.

PaddyOFurniture

I think I would have normally gone for #3, in the context of this game though I think #1 is definitely the way to go.

Sharkey

It's an excellent way to externalize Sam's internal dialogue any way you cut it.

PaddyOFurniture

I choose 1. But I think Cupid could be real and read Sam's dark thoughts will be a better idea.

I really like the idea of choice 3. It lends a schizophrenic complexity to Sam's character, and it invokes the "man vs. self" archetypal conflict.
