The question by Prophet Jason Morrow got me to asking if this episode could have been made a 2-parter.

2025-03-19 21:21:13 +0000 UTCthe reason for him beaming down was to warn the Parada people

2025-01-30 21:15:29 +0000 UTCAlso, didn't he make a comment before he beamed down wondering what they are hiding? I could be remembering wrong, but I think he was trying to solve the puzzle. Maybe as the replicate he would instinctually be drawn to that area once he got close to it.

2024-12-08 21:44:01 +0000 UTCI always assumed they didn't put him in the brig because that would tip off the bad guys that they were on to them. They needed to catch the bad guys.

2024-12-08 21:40:17 +0000 UTCYour concerns about spoilers always make me smile: who is listening to/watching this having not ever seen the episode? That'd be quite a way to do a first watch of the show!
Christina De Clerck-Szilagyi
2024-11-13 01:26:40 +0000 UTCWe first see it in TNG's "Rascals" (I think).

2024-11-13 01:24:18 +0000 UTC“Double-strong, double-sweet” is O’Brien’s typical order that we see in a lot more episodes going forward

2024-09-03 00:42:32 +0000 UTCThe gentlemen asked about what the cough exam is all about. As physicians, when we do this exam we are looking, indeed, for an inguinal hernia. The testicle starts its life in the abdomen then makes its way during the fetal period down to the scrotum. That canal doesn’t always close, so with increased abdominal pressure, like from a cough, the intestine is pushed down. Then it goes back up when the pressure is released, unless it’s too big and gets trapped. When that happens, it’s a strangulated hernia which is very painful and needs immediate surgery. So, we are trying to triage who needs, if found, to get it fixed and who needs simply to wear a hernia belt so doesn’t get larger.

2024-08-13 21:08:13 +0000 UTCI think also this episode was really about the replicant! It was his episode and so it ended with him. It wasn’t really about O’Brien and his family. So I liked that it ended with replicant dying. It started with him, so it should end with him.

2024-08-13 01:47:25 +0000 UTCThis is one I always remember (significant to me). I enjoyed having O’Brien’s narrative lead the episode. So I would give it a 7.6 also.

2024-08-13 01:40:22 +0000 UTCYou are correct. I stand corrected. Wait, why am I standing to be corrected? I will sit down and be corrected thank you very much. :-) I had thought that there was another scene back at the station after replicant Miles dies but I was thinking about the previous episode and coffee conversation with Keiko.

2024-08-12 00:47:43 +0000 UTCI've always thought that in addition to the uncertainty of whether or not this was the real O'Brien, the crew at DS9 were also trying to figure out what exactly the assassin's mission was. That could explain why they didn't immediately lock him in the brig, they needed to see if they could find out what he was there to do. In addition, they couldn't have known what exactly the "trigger" was that the Paradans mentioned at the end of the episode. They likely were being cautious to avoid "activating" the assassin. I'm still confused as to whether the DS9 crew were working with the Paradan rebels or the government though. Never quite figured that one out. I'm also gonna disagree with the comments about pulling up Quark by his lapels. I get that it's not a nice thing to do, but Quark is generally not a nice guy! Is he a good guy? Yes, usually. Is he one of the hero characters? Yes. But I do think that it's an important dynamic to the character. The fact that it's mean is the point. IDK, maybe that's a super unenlightened take, but it doesn't really bother me when that happens.

2024-08-12 00:46:45 +0000 UTCReally enjoyed the discussion this week! Made me think of the TV shows Orphan Black and Orphan Black:Echos

2024-08-11 03:03:09 +0000 UTCEven though they do go off on talking about other things, they do come back and finish the scene at 1:40:10 where they talk about replicant O'Brien's last line. The hosts do their best at summarizing as much of the scenes as they can, but there will times when it's not perfect.
Garrett
2024-08-10 19:34:59 +0000 UTCThey talk about the complete ending in other places esp the bonus material but at the time index I mentioned they just cut off the recap with O'brien staring at himself and never talked about going back to the station.

2024-08-10 00:45:21 +0000 UTCSo what is Armin’s favorite pillow?
Constance
2024-08-10 00:35:38 +0000 UTCI like that they didn’t incarcerate O’Brien for a couple reasons. 1. Incarceration on suspicion is a slippery slope, 2. They couldn’t tip off the evil aliens cuz they would send another operative
Constance
2024-08-10 00:32:38 +0000 UTCGuessing Armin hasn’t seen Battlestar, lol.
Constance
2024-08-10 00:22:43 +0000 UTCWould Armin have practiced the grab? The performances were great, played well and believable in the scene.

2024-08-09 23:28:23 +0000 UTCThe coffee mention was a call back to the previous episode. DS9 again respecting the audience, and leaving Easter Eggs.

2024-08-09 22:50:41 +0000 UTCYou must have skipped ahead because they take the recap right down to discussing the final line of the episode.

2024-08-08 16:21:14 +0000 UTCPossible answer for the coffee cup prop being different - I imagine you could programme your home replicator with your own cutlery and crockery presets, whereas using a public replicator you get the default.

2024-08-08 16:05:36 +0000 UTCThis episode is also a lot like the film Shattered

2024-08-07 23:47:23 +0000 UTCI'm surprised nobody commented that O'Brien wasn't wearing his combadge in the runabout, when he's making his log entries. Another sign that something was off.

2024-08-07 19:52:10 +0000 UTCRef “actors don’t make a lot of money”… A few years back, I started looking in to what it ales to be an actor. When I read somewhere the average actor doesn’t even make $25K a year, I decided I would stick to working in I.T. and keep pursuing industry certifications. The acting world will have to carry on with out me. Sorry… 🤣

2024-08-06 21:55:15 +0000 UTCMy view is that Molly was just being a recalcitrant child whose actions unintentionally fed into fake Miles growing paranoia.

2024-08-06 18:52:40 +0000 UTCI was thinking the writers were trying to show that something was off because children often sense when something is different sooner than adults do.

2024-08-05 21:29:47 +0000 UTCCould Molly tell? Is that what Keiko was trying to tell Sisko in the promenade? Did they decide it was the replecant after she reports Molly’s reaction? Because she was way too young to be told “that isn’t daddy” and get it.

2024-08-05 20:46:01 +0000 UTCUpdate: Did anyone else notice that the boys never finished recapping the story? They end at 1:37:11 with O'Brien looking at himself and then they go off on several tangents and never come back to the story to finish the recap. What the freakazoid man? Yeah, Sisko and Keiko were definitely NOT huddled together looking sneaky. They were standing in public two feet apart and looked like Keiko was upset and pointing her hand at Sisko. Come on man. Again with the "no weapons are allowed on the promenade". This only applies to non-station personnel. Odo can't tell Sisko who is in charge of the station that he can't bring his weapon there. Obviously security is allowed to have them for security purposes. SMH. Revised: No, the runabouts are NOT stored in the upper pylons, they are stored in hangers in the docking ring. Additionally, we were shown an exterior view of the runabout as it transits the station. If he were coming from an upper pylon, the ship would not be flying that low in a flat trajectory. Remember that we last see Miles in the habitat ring right after Jake reports him and he enters the conduit there and almost immediately starts to climb. He can't be climbing a ladder in a docking pylon in the docking ring because he would have had to cross over to the docking ring from the habitat ring. There are smaller structures on the habitat ring that are called defense sails which is probably where he is climbing the ladder. After he climbs the ladder, he enters into a cargo bay that probably serves as storage for the defense sail. Then he uses the cargo bay transporter to transport to a runabout stored in the docking ring. This is the best explanation that I could come with that makes sense. Other than the Rio Grande, there were 3 other Danube Class Runabouts named after rivers in the USA. One was the NX Class USS Yellowstone from the Voyager episode where Harry Kim was sent to an alt timeline. The 2 others we will see in future episodes and are named the USS Shenandoah and USS Yukon. Sorry boys, no USS Mississippi. Several times it seems that the station is getting transmissions from the Parada System in the Gamma Quadrant. How is that possible since it was established prior that no signals could get through the wormhole. Only in a later episode do they put a relay in place to enable communication. As explained in ST: ENT "Carbon Creek" velcro was actually given to humans by Vulcans who crashed on Earth in the mid 1950s. So if the Paradan rebel threw down his weapon, where did he get the one that he shot Miles with? Strongly disagree about the alien makeup. I thought it was great and showed MORE effort than just a little nose or forehead thing most of them have.

2024-08-05 20:21:36 +0000 UTCLoved the podcast. I appreciate the keys to making a mystery work. I also didn’t pick up on several items in the episode that you did so I’ll go back and watch for them.
SnazzyO
2024-08-05 15:24:12 +0000 UTCIt’s a great episode in terms of mystery. And all your sympathy is with O’Brien. A couple of fan-theories to serve as plot-onium filler: 1) They didn’t want whoever was sending the replicant to know they were on to him, so they needed to test him to see if there were any clues to the real Mile’s location. So arresting replicant-Miles would tip off the bad guys and could result in the death of real Miles. 2) They found out real Miles’ location and went there to rescue him, that’s why they went to the moon. They didn’t show us this, because they didn’t want to give the game away 3) Real Miles went to the moon because he wanted to find out who Sisko & company was working with. 4) They didn’t expect replicant Miles to really believe he was Miles. Which is what makes the story so sad. Which means a missing scene would have been: Bashir or Sisko telling O’Brien, ‘until we found you, we had to play along because if we arrested him, they would have killed you.’
