Hey y’all! We wanted to update you on the resin rose because we hit some snags. First off, we tried to CNC a hole in the base so we could insert a light, and the hole was so off center that it busted through a thin edge of the particle board base… whoops. Honestly though I think it’ll be ok since we can just paint it all black.

We also had planned to leave the rose in the pressure pot for extra long since it was in an ice bath to slow down the curing and prevent thermal runaway, but we realized oops we can’t actually leave it in there TOO long because there’s a bit of exposed stem at the top (that we used to hold onto to suspend it) and that’s a weak point for deterioration! So we decided to demold it after 9 days and cross our fingers. The stem was getting a little brown but nothing too bad. And the rose itself… well it kinda looked like Chunk 2: aka ghostly.

Now we sorta expected this, because the only time we’ve avoided the frosty, ghostly look was with Chunk 1 where we had warping in the resin due to thermal runaway. So we decided to go ahead and move forward at least for now and top off a final layer of resin to seal the stem.

We’ll see if it all comes together in the end! -Katelyn
