Chunk 2 needs urgent help/attention

Hey guys… so we might have a little problem. Chunk 2 has a perfect resin seal around the pumpkin, but it cured so slow that he seems to be rotting and creating gas. The gas is pushing out on the resin which is why he was ghostly when we revealed him but spoiler… he is still gassing and the resin is starting to SERIOUSLY bulge out, almost entirely on his back side where the resin is thinnest. We measured the deflection outwards at 0.38"!!!! I think we need to do something about this sooner rather than later so we don’t have a somewhat explosive failure. My plan is to drill into the resin, release the air, add NPT ports, and pump something in.

My main goal for what we pump in is for that liquid to stop the ongoing chemical/biological reaction. Do you guys have any suggestions? Pure water, alcohol, bleach, chlorine water, formaldehyde, etc lol. Once the air has been replaced by liquid, we’ll seal if off again at the NPT ports and see if anything else changes haha. But going forward we can always burp the pumpkin chamber via the NPT ports and we might even install a pressure relief valve. If the pressure increases too much it will automatically burp.

We could also try pumping resin in… but I worry the reaction would just keep going and the pressure would expand and we would need to start the process over again. Still open to this path if there was some way to ensure that gas will not be produced. Also if you don't have any suggestions for what to do but know of an expert (especially one online) we could reach out to for help we'd also love the recommendation. Thanks in advance for your thoughts! -Evan

This is interesting. If you could find a liquid that has a similar refractive index to resin, it would have the side benefit of reducing/eliminating all the fogging and clouding too, and give the pumpkin a true "floating" appearance.

could you replace the "water" in the pumkin with Glycerin/Glycerol/Glycole/Diol? This would a) avoid shrinking and b) avoid mold...

I think Chunk 1 is holding up better because he was pasteurized by the heat from the curing resin.
