2020-06-14 15:01:09 +0000 UTCOnly thought about this now for some reason but my late father used to SWEAR by the soap+screw trick but there were some huge differences from your approach. 1) We used a normal body soap bar - Ivory, specifically (not sure if that brand is sold in the US mind you...) - And the biggest difference is we didn't see the soap slipping out of the wood much like you guys were seeing. I'm thinking that maybe the craft soap wasn't the right pick? I could see it being a lot waxier and thus it failing to work. 2) We only used this "hack" on wood screws - not the kind you were using (lag screw? I don't know). I'm just theorizing here, but maybe something went weird with that one unthreaded section. I’d also like to point out that I was always told that this trick was simply to prevent wood from splitting as easily when you’re driving the screw in and a pilot hole isn’t an option or would be insanely time consuming. Examples: The delicate bits when building a deck, patch jobs around existing hardwood (think along the lines of having to replace a section of a stud in a wall and you’ve got to secure a bracket of some kind), and lastly would be working with some wood that is attached to a basement wall with masonry screws but now you need to retrofit something where the whole thing is a super janky disaster of just random hunks of wood bolted into the concrete wall to secure some water pipes without thinking that maybe some day your son would have to come around and fix things because you used super cheap lumber back in the 70’s and didn’t account for things like moisture so the whole thing turned into a wreck. …I swear I have no experience with that last example. >.> >.> Anyways, great video! Loved it! Now to go make some magic broccoli…

2020-06-14 08:41:26 +0000 UTCI'm really surprised the rubberband-for-a-stripped-screw back didn't work. I've tried it a time or two with success. But I think it just depended on the amount of stripped. I'd be interested to see if the dents in the wood reappeared once the wood block was dry. Anyway, amazing video, as always. ❤️😍
