The Pupoda Incubator

The Pupoda Incubator is a small, spherical creature that bears a striking resemblance to an innocuous sea sponge. Its body boasts a sickly blend of green, yellow and brown colours. From it's main body - several long, slimy tentacles emerge, painted in a deep green shade. These tentacles move with an eerie grace, contrasting against the creature's unsettling sponge-like body. Despite its seemingly harmless appearance, those who know of this creature are wary, for its true nature is more sinister.

Lore

Allegedly originating from the depths of the ocean off the west coast of Daragaard, Pupoda Incubators are sea-dwelling aberrations that deceive many with their appearance, often mistaken for mere sponge floatsam. These creatures are the stuff of nightmares for many sailors. Tales recount entire ship crews being engulfed by these sponges, with none left to tell the tale. Only in recent times have they been seen to increase in number, causing heightened alarm among sailors after the rapid increase since the first sighting 6 years ago in 815aw.

How To Play

The Pupoda Incubator are driven only by urge and operate with a hive-like mentality. In a pack the become formidable, working in unison to trap and overwhelm their prey. Their method is straightforward: stick to a target, engulf it, and beging the incubation process. Should a creature be reduced to 0 hit points by an incubator, it takes a mere 60 seconds for it to completely engulf it's incapacitated prey.

Once an Incubator manages to engulf a humanoid, it cocoons its prey, slowly dissolving the body within. The incubation period lasts just over a week. After the first 2 4hours, the victims body reaches a point of no return; it becomes irretrievable and cannot be resurrected by any spell that requires a body part. 

From this cocoon, a terrifying creature known as the 'Osteomorph' emerges. This new monstrosity is whispered about in hushed fearful tones among the sailors of Daragaard, adding another layer to the already terrifying reputation of the Pupoda Incubator.

Despite their gruesome nature, the Incubators are relatively easy to defend against. They possess a pronounced vulnerabilty to fire, with flames being particularily effective in warding them off or outright destroying them. With many sailors now being known to keep torches, lanterns, and even certain alchemical concotions in hand when sailing the west coast of Daragaard.
