GAM339 Atlas Shrugged Part III: Who is John Galt?
Added 2022-02-15 10:41:55 +0000 UTCThis week, Cecil joins us to roast review the third and final installment of the Atlas Shrugged movie trilogy. You MUST be wondering how bad the kompromat is that we're using to blackmail him into doing ALL THREE of these movies.

That's not "static electricity", it's EM waves (big difference). For example, a crystal radio gets its power directly from radio waves, but there's not enough energy in radio transmissions to be useful unless you're very close to the transmitter; however you can "harvest" energy from power lines in this way. It's illegal for the simple reason that you're getting something without paying for it (it's also a good way to electrocute yourself). Of course, none of these things are a *source* of energy, just away to bleed power off of other sources. Rand's concept of just pulling electrical energy out of the environment violates several laws of physics.

2022-02-26 03:48:36 +0000 UTCI want to point out that Rand's idea for a generator that pulls static electricity from the surrounding environment is an actual concept, HOWEVER... the technology is currently illegal because it pulls from stuff like radio waves AKA those fantastic untapped energy resources that our communications methods (especially emergency bands) depend on. . It also doesn't produce a hell of a lot of energy, and you can't differentiate between frequencies so you're essentially doing the polar opposite of jamming all communications. So... gain a little bit of "Free energy" at the cost of... all modern instantaneous communication. Free market your way out of that.
