GAM Bonus 060: Max Payne

This month Noah was unable to join us for the bonus episode, so we subjected Cara to something she hates even more than Christian musicals: Video game based action flicks.

Comments

Noah! Eli and Heath broke Cara! 😂

Talyn

valkyries where choosers of the slain, they brought the honourble dead to Asgard, half went to Freyas hall, she took the fair and handsome warriors and half went to Odins hall, Valhall. The warriors where known as the einherjarn and they are fated to fight the forces of darkness on Ragnarok and to die, for all the nine worlds falls at ragnarok

Markus Nävergård

Aesir is the major group of gods in Norse mythology. Odin,Thor, Loki ( he is a Jotunn really) Tyr and etc etc. the other group of Gods are the Vanir and thent here is the Jotunns who are the giants but can also be called a type of Gods

Markus Nävergård

Okay so listening to this all I can think of is a future GAM bonus of the new Mortal Kombat, and CSM has to be the guest xD

Fredrik

Aesir= some of the norse gods

The Viking Paratrooper

Cara doesn't play computer games? Well,... I guess she's not perfect, after all. She's still great in these, though. I hope whatever blackmail you have on her, to keep her coming back, keeps working. :)

Bill Garthright

Cara is such a good sport! :D

Petra Khor

Thank you! This is why I came here. I stopped mid-listen to make sure it had been pointed out in the comments.

Delitisco

Thank you!

Michael Jenkins

And D'artagnan in 3 Musketeers - I was also in love with him! :-)

OzCarmel

A key element to the kind of surreal nature of the game that the movie glosses over/forgets to include, is Max is captured and given a massive dose of the valkyr serum twice in an attempt to kill him, he’s also abusing painkillers and alcohol throughout, so he’s never in a particularly clear state of mind, and is treated as a somewhat unreliable narrator. As a result of the movie never conveying this but keeping and even exaggerating all the trippy shit, it’s just…generally weird and deeply confusing

potato potato also another potato

This is a bad movie.

Lethal Wheat Gluten

The 13th Warrior (1999) may be a good one for a bonus , starring Antonio Banderas as Ahmad ibn Fadlan because 90's and is one of the biggest box office failures of all time. Should be lots to riff on and plenty of back story on what had to be a nightmare of a production.

VermanShane

The “BB bad” comment ran my squirrel brain to an absolute 80’s horror classic the PIAT crew would just love, the 1986 Wes Craven/Kristy Swanson horror masterpiece: Deadly Friend! https://youtu.be/unhs-0XihI0

JacM

I agree. She's normally one of my favorite guests, but I thought she seemed pretty disengaged/negative on this one. But then she mentioned a migraine a couple of times, so I totally understand why she seemed off....those are so painful, and I wouldn't want to joke around while I had one, either. I hope she's feeling a lot better now, and that she comes back full-force to the show soon!

Rachael Adamczyk

I LOVE Cara!! I understood her completely when she had to figure out the cop/FBI guy scene. I get it!

Rebecca Oxford

Maybe I'm just kind of salty or something, but there was a certain "hit-or-miss" energy to Cara here that I didn't like as much as her usual appearances. I think that it's down to how she felt like the movie was totally out of her realm of interest so she wasn't totally engaged. The episode definitely wasn't a total flop because of it, but I enjoyed myself more with most of the other action movie bonus episodes. Hell, maybe it isn't even HER, maybe Max Payne just isn't a super engaging story and it lacks the ridiculousness of something like Triple X or The Fast and the Furious (which was it, 7?). Even as a video game it was one of those ones that I'd heard of being fun, but pretty much nobody in the "general" video game fandom talked about the story until like, the third one, and I'd totally forgotten that there was a movie.

Markus D

She fucked a fish. I think that says it all. ;)

Kidda Sweet

Whoops, scrolling back through comments I see I am late with the link. Should have known the GAMbase would be right on top of that.

I experienced flickering lights once... https://www.instagram.com/p/CQooaVQAgK5/?utm_medium=copy_link I felt like I walked out of my office and into a horror movie.

Rawrbecca

Did Cara reference Repo The Genetic Opera when she says it comes in a little glass bottle or am I reaching?

bad.shepherd.pod

Heath and Cara are my end game OPT. So much chemistry.

Sayke

Christopher Walken: "It needed more Eli Wahlberg."

lf

Yep, specifically the group most of them belong to, there is an alternate group called the Vanir that Freyr, Freyja, and Njord are said to be from. The singular form is As, leading to Asgard (Yard/enclosure of the Aesir.)

Andrew Nielsen

Bonus episode + Cara = 🥇🏆

Taru Tikkanen

Why does Cara not like The Shape of Water? I don't think it was the BEST Del Toro movie, but it wasn't BAD...

Markus D

We should gaslight Eli and Heath and side with Cara that the scene she hallucinated totally happened.

Poor Cara!

Reynold Hall

You guys mentioned the name of a ?company? called Aesir - that is a type of Norse god, so they think very highly of themselves...

Patricia Lucas

They were also the shield maidens of the gods and battled their enemies by their side

Jim

I feel like Eli actually knew this one, but he was being nice

Jim

uuuuuuuuuuuuggggggghhhhhhh I get irrationally upset when people think valkyries are seen as violent flying (or in this case, bird) beings. They were supposed to be kind beings that flew vikings up to valhalla. I don't know where people got the idea that valkyries were violent.

Sami Marie

Cara won me completely with her whole hearted laught at the Greg the good gang member joke. She's obviously a D&D Minus fan.

HeroesComeCheap

Chris O'Donnell was in School Ties and Robin in the Schumacher Batman movies and YES he was an absolute dreamboat. 7 year old me was so in love.

Andi

Isn't Eli a comic nerd too? And, unless he's not into Thor and co. I figured he'd know at least a little bit about the Norse gods; at least basic terminology.

Markus D

Heath, Eli. You're nerds. How do you not know what the Aesir are?! I guarantee Noah would know.

Brian

Aesir are what the norse gods are called

Kenny Tatum

I literally saw this movie in theaters as a teenager because I played the games on PS2, lol. Also, the guy definitely hallucinated the valkyrie pulling him out of the window.

Sidenote for the team the Aesir is the name of the Norse gods so it kinda makes sense with name of the drug Valkyr. As much as this movie ever made sense 😁

Ashley Kennett

Careful, Marsh created Covid just to stay skeptic of the year. Who knows what he will do to stay best guest?

B. King

Cara is challenging Marsh for best guest, and I think Cara has taken the lead with being on a bonus episode

Windy City Roger

Cara ❤️
