GAM Bonus 026: Broken Arrow

Because at least occasionally we get to do "awfully good" movies.

Two things. 1. Yes, US pilots do in fact intentionally carry cash. And Eli unintentionally hit the nail on the head because it is in fact, to buy friends! They carry cash to literally buy their safety and help in surviving long enough in enemy territory to be rescued. And... I’m sure they have a special pocket for their bett’n dollars on their flight suits as well. But do t hold me to that one. 2. I was just thinking that if we put a SIXTEEN YEAR OLD American male onto a bomb and he knew it was his last hoorah.... You may want to clarify... A lot.... What you mean by “Just give it a yank when you feel like you’re getting close to the ground.” I’m just sayin... Lives depend on that shit!

So excited! I’ve seen this movie a hundred times!

The Greater Goop

apparently Heath revoked our privileges over the terrible movies we picked in the past..

The Greater Goop

One detail that the film almost gets right: modern nukes have anti-tampering systems that will render the weapon inoperable, thus giving you a way to disable a nuke if, for instance, you're trapped in a copper mine with John Travolta.

Hey... I didn’t get an August Bonus poll. The July one is there but nothing between there and here to vote for an August bonus film. Weird. I’ll look for the Sept one.

The Gray Hunter

IVE LISTENED TO IT 5 TIMES AND I STILL HAVE NO IDEA WHAT HE SAID THE ACCENTS ARE SO HILARIOUSLY DISTRACTING

A DM who just once would like to make up an NPC's name that my players don't make fun of.

Some nukes do have drag chutes to let the plane get away safely, although I don't think these are supposed to. But most modern aircraft let you jettison the munitions.

Eli’s accents during the first interstitial are the best thing that’s ever happened to me.

As a member of the armed forces I've only heard of "broken arrow" in the context of being overrun. It's a code phrase/shorthand the defenders use to denote that they are making a last stand AND that they know they will lose. Often times it is uttered when the defenders call down fire on their own position and it informs the fire support teams that they are aware that they are dropping bombs on themselves. Used as a way to spite the enemy that is overrunning you. Why we have code phrases like that is obvious. Hearing "broken arrow" over the radio tells you all you need to know and it does so quickly. Desperate defenders don't exactly have alot of time to be on the radio after all and they don't have time to argue with you about how the grid coordinates they gave you would drop artillery on their own heads.

Shut up Wesley!

This movie was on TV in the UK earlier today. I saw part of it well I was eating tea/dinner, and thought "mmmm, I think there's a House M.D rerun on Sky Atlantic"

General Contact Unit Problem Child

I don't remember voting for this. What sort of representation is this? 😆

Stonedbanana

This was the first R rated movie I saw in theaters, when I was 11, with my dad. Right in the childhood, guys.
