According to a new report from Fanbyte, the game is called Final Fantasy Origin and is expected to be unveiled at E3 next month. The report follows a wild series of rumours about the game, which has been compared to the likes of Dark Souls and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order but with a greater emphasis on being accessible to genre newcomers.
- Final Fantasy Origin is also believed to be a PS5 console exclusive, although a PC version will be making an appearance before long. Developers Team Ninja are also expected to release a short gameplay demo to gather feedback from players - something they did previously with Nioh and its sequel. Roll on E3, eh?
Konami are considering outsourcing more projects
Following last month's surprise reveal of GetsuFumaDen: Undying Moon, Konami have hinted at plans to outsource more new franchise installments in future. Undying Moon is the sequel to a Japan-only Famicom game from 1987, so outsourcing is apparently giving Konami the motivation they need to actually make some games.
- Undying Moon is a collaboration between Konami and indie studio GuruGuru that released via Steam Early Access earlier this month - there's also a version headed to the Nintendo Switch next year. Konami say that they are "continually inspired by various indie titles" and apparently want to leverage this inspiration to outsource more new projects based on older properties. It'll be interesting to see what they do next - although they are skipping E3 this year so it may be a while before we hear anything.
E3 registration opens next week
E3 organisers the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) have confirmed that fan registration will open on June 3rd. Industry professionals and influencers can sign up from May 31st, while gaming media types can register now. E3's events will be streamed pretty much everywhere, but fans who sign up for the official app will get exclusive features.
- E3's online portal will be open to the public from June 12th to coincide with the first day of the show, and will offer an "interactive experience." We're only really going to find out what this means when the app and portal officially launch, as the ESA's marketing fluff text has been very confusing. We'll also get to see if there's much mileage in an all-digital E3 in an industry already full of digital shows.
Are Valve working on a console
As discovered by SteamDB founder Pavel Djundik (he really does notice everything), references to a potential "SteamPal" device appeared during Valve's most recent Steam update. The latest client beta references both "SteamPal" and "SteamPal Games" in relation to something it calls "Neptune."
- We can only speculate what Valve are up to until they decide to actually clue us in, though the company have played about with hardware in the past. The client update also contains references to things like power menus and the ability to suspend and restart games, so something could be in the works. GabeN recently hinted at plans to bring Steam games to console, but what if Valve are making the console?
