Sega's most recent earning's presentation mentions something called a "super game", which the company are planning to release at some stage in the next five years. The presentation suggests that it will be a new IP and, as such, will have low initial profitability but a high earning potential due to a global release push. It's all very mysterious.
- It looks like Sega will be keeping busy with a number of other new projects in the run-up to this big one. The presentation mentions a new FPS title in the works at a European studio (that'll likely be the one Creative Assembly are currently hiring for), as well as the "utilisation of IP assets" in things like remakes and remasters. Oh, and Sega also sold 4.4m Sonic games in a year when no new Sonic games released. Yikes.
Xbox are working on a mind-blowing new IP
That's according to Xbox marketing boss Ben Decker who, speaking in a recent interview about Xbox Game Pass, stated that Xbox have 23 studios working on franchises like Halo, Fallout, Forza, and a "new IP that we havenβt even talked about yet thatβs gonna blow your mind."
- This new IP, which could possibly be the dragon-related project that was teased recently, will be available via Xbox Game Pass on launch day. The interview was largely about Xbox's research into the Game Pass service which confirmed that nearly 55% of those surveyed joined the service to get newly-released games. So there you go.
Sony have over 25 PlayStation 5 games in development
This number comes courtesy of PlayStation Studios boss Hermen Hulst, who confirmed in an interview with Wired that over 25 PS5 titles are currently in the works at Sony - and that over half on them are completely new IP.
- Hulst emphasised that there is "an incredible amount of variety" on display across these titles. Hulst has been a strong proponent of Sony creating a diverse slate of titles for PS5 and it looks like that strategy is already well underway. The PS5 needs all the games it can get, as well.
Remedy's collaboration title with Epic Games is entering full production
The AAA game, which is widely believed to be Alan Wake 2, will "soon" be moving into full production. The second game, which is a smaller-scale collaboration between the two companies, is already in full production and seems to be plugging away just fine.
- The partnership is part of Epic's ongoing multi-platform publishing effort and will see them cover up to 100% of development costs and all publishing costs for Remedy's new titles. Profits will be shared 50/50 once all costs have been recouped. Now we just need to know what this game actually is - all we know for certain is that the big one is Remedy's most ambitious game yet, but they say that about all their games.
