Looks like Battlefield 6 will be revealed next month

A lot of folks in the industry had believed that EA were gearing up to reveal the game this month, but a recent tweet from the official Battlefield account looks like we won't be seeing it until some time in June. A tweet published back in April advised fans to stay tuned for a reveal "soon", but a new tweet yesterday says that June rhymes with soon. So there we go.

• A June reveal would fit in with recent word from GamesBeat's Jeff Grubb that EA had decided to push the reveal back a month. This definitely looks like a delay rather than a purposeful decision because DICE published a development update back in April as well. At any rate, it'll be interesting to finally see Battlefield 6 in action as it's still pretty mysterious.

The Coalition are switching their focus to next-gen

The Gears of War studio this week confirmed that they are preparing to shift their development focus across to next-gen using Unreal Engine 5 - although they also emphasised that we shouldn't expect any new game announcements any time soon. The team will also continue to support Gears 5 through at least the end of this year.

• In other Coalition news, a senior community manager took to Reddit to address rumours that the studio are working on a Star Wars title. Their post simply reads that the team aren't working on any such title and have nothing else to announce "at this time."

Resident Evil Village launch is the franchise's joint-best

Village passed three million sales in just four days to put it on par with 2012's Resident Evil 6 and vastly outsell both the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes - which shipped two million units in five days and two and a half million in four days respectively. Village is also the third biggest PS5 launch to date.

• Capcom's announcement also contained a few other pieces of interesting information. Village's strong initial sales have helped push the larger Resident Evil franchise over 100m units worldwide, and the game is already close to surpassing the Resident Evil 3 remake's 3.6m lifetime sales. Village was the franchise's best-ever Steam launch with 100K concurrent players in and around launch.

Sony say PS5 stock shortages could continue into next year

According to a new report by Bloomberg, Sony have reportedly told analysts that they expect the PlayStation 5 supply shortages to continue into next year. Sony CFO Hiroki Totoki said during a briefing that supply likely won't be able to catch up with demand "even if" they produce more units.

• This thinking is consistent with one of the CFO's previous statements, where he told investors that it was "unlikely" that supply issues would be resolved in the short term. Totoki also said that Sony are considering various ways to mitigate the global hardware shortages - which could involve altering hardware designs or sourcing additional suppliers. Watch this space.
