Amelia Greyheart - The Black Queen

It took a full two weeks plus change... but MWTX finally finished Amelia's design. As my second favorite character in Cryopod, I am particularly ecstatic to see her finally brought to life in the best way possible. MWTX had to rework her design several times until I was satisfied, but when he finished, it was glorious. This might be one of my favorite character designs to date!

Amelia Greyheart is the first person Jason meets upon waking from his Cryopod. Being a bit of a loner in school, Jason imprints on the cute little girl and ignores the hundred warning bells in his head regarding the strange, evil aura that surrounds her.

The two of them go on a long, daring adventure. They manage to fool a demon Duke and a Lord, then they meet a funny little crocodile, and eventually defeat Bahamut, also known as the legendary Sphinx.

The two of them eventually come to blows, and Amelia betrays Jason due to a series of misunderstandings based on her knowledge of the past and how Heroes hurt her. Eventually, Jason and Amelia face off in a final epic battle, and Jason is forced to decide whether to save his former friend, or to kill her.

Amelia was one of the only characters in Cryopod Classic that I had a definitive mental image of. I based her character design on Rory Mercury, a cute little loli from GATE, one of my favorite manga.

Eventually, when I decided to have art drawn up for all the characters, I commissioned an artist to draw her. He did... a pretty decent job! Her face came out really weird, though.

Like, she was almost there, but not quite?

Anyway, when I gave MWTX my initial specifications, there was a lot of confusion since my request was extremely detailed, and we also suffer from a language barrier. Google Translate is not the most reliable, I've learned.

And so, now I post a flood of images showing the process from start to end.

Usually, I would post WIP artwork, but that would take waaaaay too long today, as there is so much of it over the last two weeks that I'd rather skip it.

Anyway, the above image was his first attempt. I actually think little Amelia looks good, but older Amelia was a bit... hurgh. She didn't look right. Too evil, something about her hair wasn't right, and she had a fairly manly chin.

The other issue was that her outfit reminded me of a barmaid from an old western.

Anyway, this was attempt 2.

Aaaand now she was too doe-eyed for my liking.

There was also the issue of coloring. Too much red across her body made her look more like a Sailor Scout than a gothic-loli, as described in the story.

So, we finally finished with these designs!

It took MWTX two weeks because of my endless revisions. I have around 150 images from all our WIPS, but all of the ones above are what I consider most relevant.
