Wow, such a great podcast with so nice information and experience sharing. I liked this one and the one with Ashtorp. Things that are in our heads as 3D Artists/Freelancers , where the Business part should not be ignored . Thank you very much.
2020-11-24 15:31:26 +0000 UTCThank you so much! This is the content that needed to be taught first to every artist out there, before someone ever consider becoming a freelancer, or even a 3d artist. Just so many tutorials there focusing on the technique and the stupid questions are only about like how can I make the perfect rug? instead of thinking how can you make business and what value has your work.
2020-08-25 17:25:15 +0000 UTCHi Johannes, Many thanks for sharing your knowledge and your opinion about the relationship between Clients. It is essential to understand what ist the added value for the client. Itβs a long ride to understand what needs a client and what ist the benefits of our work as a visualizer. Thank a lot for your time. Stay Safe Cheers, Oliver
2020-07-21 07:33:03 +0000 UTCThanks a lot for these podcast and all similar information. Similar what Oly wrote, I usually prefer this type content more than the 3d, at least these days. :) I have a small company and at the moment we are struggling a lot regarding making business. I think in the past month I finally realized what you said, that from a business point of view it doesn't matter how good you are in 3d. It doesn't guarantee that people will want to work with you. Like you said making a relationship is very important when you giving a service to someone. Slowly and painfully I started to understood the big difference between work in your business and work on your business, and that I must educate myself in these areas. Your articles and podcast where and still are very helpful to me in finding my own ways how to do things better. Thank you for you openness and effort to share it. I'm looking forward to the next one.
2020-07-20 11:55:29 +0000 UTCHey :) thanks for that.. you are like the Oprah Winfrey of advise for 3d stuff. Great inspiration and also gave me some idea for scene rendering. Thanks for taking the time to post it ....burp and all hahaha
2020-07-20 11:46:54 +0000 UTCThank you so much for letting me know that, very appreciated and I'm glad that the format works :-)
2020-07-19 19:16:24 +0000 UTCThank you, I really appreciate that. It's hard to make these podcasts because I don't know what they would be about. Sometimes I just lay awake one night and my head is spinning, and the topic just comes. It's difficult to force a topic :-)
2020-07-19 19:15:54 +0000 UTCWow, that's an amazing read. Thanks for sharing that, truly appreciated. I'm happy to have influenced your decicion making and even more happy that you've persued a career that you rather wanted to have. Frekkin' awesome! ππ As for your question. Yes that is hard, and sometimes we just have to take one for our one man team and let the clients screw our planning up. I'm always aiming to work in exchange for free time, but if a client that I really appreciate comes and needs more work, I'll do it even though it'll screw up my "vacation". Coming back to the point of being a reliable asset to your clients, of course that has to come first. TO SOME EXTENT obviously. If I feel that I get really tired of it and just can't take it anymore, I'll obviously tell them that even if it risks losing a good client. We all have our limits and we have to respect them to keep our sanity. In the long run our mental health is more important than a good client.
2020-07-19 19:14:42 +0000 UTCThat was one great podcast, thank you so much for taking the time. ππ I almost prefer this type of content over 3d tutorials haha..π It was the second time I was listening to one of your podcasts, and it's the second time you were just talking about some topics that really bothered me at this time. The last one I was listening (about pricing) actually led me to a few good decision which then allowed me to successfully start my own business this March, so I really owe you one! Keep the podcasts coming!β€οΈ I have one question though: You said that your goal is to rather doing fewer, but well paid jobs in the future to have more time for yourself & family (which is what I try to do as well). But what if - like in my case - some of these clients are in need of your services every month or every 2 months? Would you then rather outsource these additional jobs instead of doing them all by yourself - to have that free time? Because just turning down these requests could send a wrong signal to the (actually good) client. So the only solution I see is outsourcing, which on the other hand also takes a lot of time (briefing, communication, checking and forwarding the output to the client etc.) Curious how you would approach this..
2020-07-19 16:13:58 +0000 UTCIt's helping alot to me to clear my way and mind set and please keep posting these podcasts.
