I’ve been getting a lot of messages from people confused over the new tiers and I don’t blame you, I could’ve done this a lot smoother. I added the new tiers first, and asked the questions later. My mistake. The tiers weren’t well received and I’ve adjusted accordingly. I’m aware that I might not make everyone happy, but please read along.
Why this change?
I want to spend more time on Patreon. I want to spend the time YOU deserve. I want to tripple my content. But I’m battling with time. Family needs my time, new developments needs my time, Patreon needs my time and, last but not least, clients. To be able to make more time for Patreon, I have to cut something else, and the only thing I can cut is client work.
That won’t come without its own problems: Less income. So to be able to cut client work to make more time for Patreon, I naturally have to compensate the loss of income through Patreon. Raising pledge prices on Patreon was something I didn’t want to do, so I had another strategy, keep the price but introduce a time limit. Well, that didn’t work out and honestly I should’ve realized that with my ass.
So the option was to do what I didn’t want: Raise the pledge amounts.
The new tiers
$3 - Support
First I’ve added a $3 dollar support tier. This is for those who just want to support a little and get a little something in return. You will get access to some Tips & Tricks from my workflows and softwares I use. You’ll get work in progress images from both personal and commercial projects (if they are not under NDA). You’ll also get occasional model/file giveaways.
$8 - Models
A new tier. Every month I’ll produce and share models for you to download and use in your projects. It’ll be mostly focused on photogrammetry made props, but may also be other assets like doors, windows, carpets or furniture. Expected 4-10 models every month, more if I can make it.
Important to note here is that these uploads won’t stay forever, they will be removed once others are uploaded, or around a monthly basis. This is to prevent Patrons joining 6 months from now and download models worth a lot more than a month’s pledge.
$12 - Videos and articles.
This tier replaces the current one. It will give access to all previous videos like before, so if and when you upgrade to this one, you won’t lose access to anything. However, with more content produced every month and more activity from me in the comment sections.
$19 - Combo
This combines the Model and the Video tier, giving one dollar discount.
Except from the ordinary content in these two tiers, you will also get access to source material like scenes, HDRI’s, LUT’s, etc. Please understand that you should concider that a bonus and even if I’ll try to add as much of that as I can, there’s no guarantee it will be every month.
FAQ
If I switch to the new tiers, will I lose access to the old material?
No you won’t, I’ve updated all posts so they are accessed by the new tiers. If I’ve missed one, let me know.
Can I stay on the old tier I’ve always been pledging to?
Yes, as long as you don’t unsubscribe, the old tier will be available to you with the same access as before.
Will you add new content even to the old, now removed, tiers?
Yes, for a while. I don’t want to force anyone to upgrade their tier at this point, but eventually I will have to phase them out to be able to reach the goal of being able to rely on Patreon income. For now, you can stay on them if you wish, however you will be missing out on models and source files.
I’ve been a Patron of yours since the beginning and had access to the Scaninavian interior course. Now it’s gone, why?
Because at some point since I uploaded those videos Patreon made a change to how the tier system works. Now with the updated tiers I did no longer have the choice to leave them accessible to old, removed tiers. If you had access to them before and have been pledging continually since 2018, drop me a message.

Just updated. Thanks for being that open about the whole process and tbh your patreon was the cheapest one was subscribed to while offering the most value over the years. (at least from my point of view. ) So thanks for all the work you've put into this and I hope more money means more time for you and for patreon. :)

And he will know if price increase paid off or not in few months, definitely not now. Disregarding opinions of people who are not content with current development can be a big mistake.

I do agree that a certain bonus tier would be great for old patrons, however Patreon doesn't allow me to do such thing as I can't make specific tiers available to only certain patreons. In other way, they don't give me any alternatives to reward the long term patrons and that had frustrated me for years. I've actually added requests like this to the patreon developers many times but they always respond with that they will concider, but they never act. Honestly I think patreon, UX wise, is a rather crappy platform.

Nothing should be locked off but if it is, feel free to shoot me a PM and I'll sort it out. I might have missed to add proper access to certain posts even though I've tried to go through them all. :)

If you're on an 8 dollar tier now you can stay on it. I'll keep adding video content to it which is pretty much the only thing I've been uploading so far anyway. The fact that you expected to get a lot of models and textures in the old tier is unfortunate and completely my own mistake as I had not updated the tier descriptions in years. It is a tricky borderline with the models as yes, in a way you were "supposed" to have it in the 8 dollar tier because I said so 2 years ago, but on the other hand I haven't actually been uploading models to patreon at all for ages except for some occasional tests. Models hasn't been something I've prioritized or focused on as I've only concidered it an occasional bonus, but now I want to make time for serious efforts to have that kind of content too. I've been battling with time to produce and upload content to patreon and this is an effort to be able to upload a lot more. Some may think it would be fair if I kept uploading all future content including models the old tiers as well but that would defeat the whole purpose of trying to be able to say no to other incomes in favor of patreon, and I still wouldn't be able to spend the time actually producing or uploading anything so we would be back to square one. 8 bucks a month for both videos and loads of high quality models would be rediculously really cheap and I don't think anyone can object to that. Even though I don't want to come through as greedy, there's no way I can keep up spending the time required for that without being able to raise the income from patreon. 8 bucks is cheap even for one single model on Turbosquid. I'm trying to compromise as much as I can, and sadly I have to expect that I won't be able to please everyone. I've already lost a bunch of patrons since yesterday and I don't blame them. Just mentioning, previous stuff that has been removed now is being re-uploaded properly for all tiers including the old ones. I just don't want to spam too much.

Most of the stuff I have removed however I'm adding back, even into the old removed tier. The reason to why I removed it wasnt to revoke access, but because it was sloppily uploaded with Dropbox links instead of proper attachments. So don't worry, it'll come back and If you're missing something still, shoot me a PM!

In these Corona times I wanted to make sure I don't force anything upon anyone, as stated in the FAQ you can stay on the old tier as long as you want and I'll continue to add content to that tier for a while ahead. As for the modules that was previously uploaded, I had assumed that people had downloaded it already.

If you want to change the price, it would be fair to do this for the new patreons, not for those supporting your work. Or at least do something reasonable. I will have to pay more than double I pay now to have access to something I was supposed to have already. I signed up because of the models, textures and videos but now the price went from $8 to $19? Not great and even more at this moment. Anyway, I understand you are free to change the price you want but I think the right thing to do is to keep your previous patreons price and the new supporters get the new price. And please don't get me wrong. your work is great and worth the price but I am not sure this change is fair for those supporting you for months or years.

2020-03-23 06:50:56 +0000 UTCI became a Patreon member March 11, 2020, but shortly after that time, major changes to the pricing and access to this Patreon page were made. Whereas before I had access to 3d models, now that access is denied. Are there plans to make legacy content available to Patreon members who did not immediately download all of the content that is now pay walled to a higher price tier?
