Hey Guys!
Super happy to see you here in 2020 as well.
I've been sketching on some updates to my on my Patreon page. More tiers, better caretaking and most importantly; more frequent content. From time to time I feel bad that my Patreon page is so quiet for long periods of time. Even though I always try to find time to upload something worth 8 bucks every months, it's constantly a struggle to find the peaceful time to record undisturbed with family including an 7 year old constantly wanting my attention.
In a previous post I mentioned that I've found an office to rent, meaning I'll be able to work away from my home, more efficiently and undisturbed, and as a result also getting a lot easier to find the quiet time required to record videos and stuff for Patreon.
I've been promised access to this new office either by the end of this week or the next. A trip to IKEA for some furniture later, and a new chapter begins.
Speaking of the future content on my Patreon, I'm working on an online store for high end styling props, mostly high end photogrammetry models, and a lot of that content, if not most of it, will also be shared here on Patreon in some new tiers I'll launch soon. Even though the site needs some fine tuning, you can sneak peek it here: https://viz.guru/shop
On topic, here's a video I've been asked to do for a while. I had expected to be able to do it at the hotel in Copenhagen by new years eve. Optimistic, huh? I thought my family could spend some time in the pool while I was in the room recording, turned out the pool was closed. roflcopter...
Anyway, finally it's here. Didn't go perfectly as planned but I did get better results after I had finished recording, as explained with overlay text in the video.
As always, feel free to ask questions!
Is there a version of this scene with the main camera included? I'm trying to conduct some tests to compare Corona Renderer with F-Storm and I was hoping this scene was fully assembled, ready to render, but the cameras are missing(?) Alternatively, if you could post the camera position / rotation, FOV / film width, that would probably be sufficient

Second this. The scene is amazing even without textures, would love the cleaned model :)

Hi.
Thank you for the very kind words, super appreciated. :-) As for your inquiry, I've actually meant to release this scene as a whole, I'll just need to figure out how to sort it out with Martins' textures being used. Releaseing it without any textures is not a biggie at all :)

Hey Johannes, thanks again for sharing your extensive and helpful knowledge! I've always used your tutorials and work as a huge source of inspiration, and have for some years now, 'translated' them to C4D + Corona.
At the end of last year I finally decided it was time to invest in a decent setup (a simple Macbook Pro was all that I had to work with for a long long time), so new hardware + 3ds Max in combination with Fstorm is what the future will hold, hehe!
My question though: is there a chance that you could share the actual model of the house you use in this particular tutorial? Just the pure architecture/mesh, no textures no nothing else. Basically the part you show in the very beginning of the video. I think it's a nice space to play around in for texture + lighting learning purposes.
Of course, no hearts broken if you can't. Perfectly understandable :)
Cheerz mate, and thanks again for everything!

Ah yes. Now I've been using it for a while and could definitely do such a video. Would be a short one since things are what they are and I don't have any experience with other computers than this particular one, but still :-)

As EV Design mentioned, the plugin is called ezMat by Paul Hasse. I covered it in an earlier video showing where to find it, and I just assumed everyone had seen that. My mistake, from now on I will be better at explaining such things even if I already have in a prevous video. Thanks for the eye-opener :)
To make the texture visible in the viewport there is a small button in the material editor you have to click on, however it requires you to have that particular texture selected (double click it). Here's a printscreen:

A video of my shortcuts etc have acually been covered before but it was a long time so it's a good idea making one again. It'll be a short video though, as I hardly use any custom stuff at all. Like two custom shortcuts and the toolbar in my upper left.
But worth explaining again anyway, thank's for the request :)

Thank you for filling in :-)

Ah yes. That one I have started recording but I realized it ended up in just a long mess of uninteresting video, so I'll redo that and keep it relevant. :-)

Sorry for it being a bit late, but I'm happy I could finally do it :)

Yeah, it would be great to get a breakdown of that scene. https://www.behance.net/gallery/87648599/Pre-Modern-kitchen

+ i am personnally still very interested in a video/post-note about your new set-up, with your portable pc + e-gpu. I will do something similar, at a totally another level, with my old macbook pro+bootcamp+small egpu with downclocked 1070, so i can go camping for couple days and get through some renders, plugged in an 1kwh battery+solar panel :)

Johannes, hi ! In the Gotland Concrete video you do two things i don't know about :
@5:00 you talk about an easymap plugin you activate to convert standard bitmap to fstorm bitmap, i get through google with various search words but can't find it. Can you share a link?
@10:11 the cursor goes out of the screen and you do something to make the fstorm texture visible in the viewport. How?! I thought that was impossible :) I found a little script (show texture in viewport v1.02) that bring the feature to simple fstorm mat with just a bitmap plugged, but you have a color correction node in between, so it's not that script.
How many good things like those you know already ?! :))
Love that video, so much good stuff for the newbie i am in 3DsMax. Maybe do a little video or pdf with all your shortcuts+scripts+whatever makes your life easier in 3Ds+Fstorm.
Thanx!
Nikola

Andrey told me this: "if you don't render animation, you can use relative gi clamp. in case of animation you may need to switch it off in some cases" ... let's see what JL advises.

I lost hope to see this video a few days ago. And today it is here! Woo hoo! Thanks, really grateful for this one ! :)

Do you turn off power clamp always? When I do the scene gets way darker.

Hello sir, i have a request. I would love to see how did you make the interior scene that you posted on behance recently using an old scene and inspired by the color grading you saw in a movie. I think we all would really appreciate it. Its so damn beautiful. Please consider my request. Thank you.

I've been having troubles making falloffed materials. Not silk specifically, but velvet and velour, which would need some kind of anisotophic falloff effect rather than just simple camera-dependent falloff, which isn't doable to my knowledge.
Silk however, should be fairly doable. The Falloff is mainly used to fake small hairs in the surface that refracts light giving it the weird lightness effect on steep angles. Silk on the other hand is, as far as i know, not really furry, but rather smooth, and the lighting effects comes from reflections rather than hairs/falloff.
Playing with an inverted falloff in diffuse and reflection would be my first thing to try. Fun challenge though, I'd love to give it a go!

Hi! Question non related with this post. I can't find a way to make silk fabric material in fstorm as it doens't have the options I would need in the falloff fstorm editor. Have you ever made this material? Thanks

Can anyone guess who I'll be sharing the office with? :-)

And speaking of photogrammetry, since so many asks about it: Yes, I will share workflows here on Patreon. I'm yet to perfect the workflows, as late as yesterday I learned how to properly make good UV's, and there's still some things I want to figure out before I'm comfortable enough to sharing the knowledge. Don't want to record videos only to realize later that I was teaching a stupid workflow. :-)
