Warcraft Weekly - One Small Step Into The Shadowlands

And one giant leap for Azeroth. Gerard brings us another little discussion this week - it's about lore, but it's also about a potential future for the game.

We'd been talking about this in the office for a few months as an idea, throwing back and forward what we'd expect, how we'd like to see it happen, and everything else.

I think the strange new world Gerard outlines at the end of this is something else -and I'd love to see it.

Thanks for all your support Patrons! If you've got any ideas for Gerard to write or think about, especially relating to this topic, let us know below or tweet  @Saturnian9

As always, the best way to view this is via the attached PDF - Patreon's image compression doesn't do Nikki's design work justice.

Warcraft Weekly - One Small Step Into The Shadowlands

I don't necessarily think they did the classic servers purely to preserve the old world, but in all honesty if it is even in their slightest of intentions, then I could see a wow 2 after shadowlands. My guess would be that shadowlands would be sort of an end to our hero's journey. Creating a lasting peace and sealing the veil or ultimately letting both worlds join together and live in harmony. Maybe sylvanas finds the redemption she's been looking for or finally gets closure from arthas himself. This expansion would be a good end to the current wow. Let's assume that they could have a WoW 2 in the works, all new lore, maybe a hundred years in the future, with an all new feel to the factions. Would it still be the alliance and the horde? No, it couldn't be as both sides might have actually come to a consensus that lasted for a long while. My fantasy/ideal starter for the new world of warcraft, namely WoW 2, would be Anduin full grown and with an heir to the throne with a half breed of another horde race, thus ultimately solidifying the bond between the 2 factions. Although, it could be that orgrimmar was destroyed due the the bad memories of the past and stormwind becomes some sort of smaller city. A new capital would have risen with a massive shift in the earth causing the whirlpool to spin out of control brings both major continents to come crashing together. Maybe an apprentice to khadgar had heard the tales of our battles and tried to make contact using his own dark magic from the shadowlands source of power creating a massive portal like in the tales of old, but not reaching outlands, but a new world entirely. The main antagonist being a necromancer of sorts, not using the souls or energy of the living to empower himself and summoning demons or using the power of fel, but the power of death magic. maybe the aspect of death does exist, and is completely different than others make it out to be. Death is death for sure, but if death is a living entity, is it really death? The way I see it is the necromancer, manipulates the dead sending voices to emerge through khadgars apprentices portal, from the dead casting a hypnosis of sorts causing the apprentice to fall under his control becoming a thrall of the dead doing as the dead commands, and does not step though the portal himself, but ultimately binds their souls through one another as sort of a life link, while one exists in the realm of azeroth the other empowers the dead causing the apprentice to wreak havoc upon the world with no trace of what could be making him do the unsightly deeds committed, as it isn't under the influence of fel or the elements, but death itself. Ideally, I'd love for a new wow with a massive time skip, the old leaders becoming too weak to defend their homeland anymore, rather they don't need to anymore as there had been a lasting peace. Now there's a new threat and the young warriors of the current time must take arms to defend against the new threat, but becoming overpowered from the shadows and already new settlements were made to inhabit the land of azeroth. What stories could unfold from this, what new lore could we discover?
