Progress Update! Our Long Term Goals
Added 2019-08-28 08:13:02 +0000 UTCTime for an update on how things have been going! The content has mostly been flowing, but we’re certainly missed a few videos & have been more quiet here than is usual. Why? Well, almost all of my efforts have been going into building a sustainable long term production. That’ll take time, but we’ve already made significant progress.
New Staff
The response to the job listing we posted a couple of weeks ago was immense - over 550 applicants. We didn’t anticipate how long it’d take to get through that. The first pass took around 15 hours! We are focusing on local applicants first, as that’s ideal for a staff writer position. Once that’s done we’re going to see how we can build up a pool of specialist freelancers.
Assuming all goes well, I’ll have plenty to share in the next 2-4 weeks. I’ll do a larger post in a few days detailing how we aim to expand.
Office Space
Office space is our next problem! Things are quite good now, but we’re at our comfortable capacity - anything else would be a little too packed. Plus, I’d like to split the games division up from the media division. Game development involves a lot of impromptu meetings & discussions, so it isn’t ideal having the workflows interrupt each other.
To this end we’ve secured another room. It’s a bit smaller than our current main one, but it has a great layout & will fit a team of up to 5 comfortably - more than enough for our current & short term needs.
We’ve got the desks etc ready & the walls repainted. Once the joiner has finished reflooring & the builder has the partition in, we’ll be ready to move in. It’s just down the stairs from our current rooms. It’s very satisfying to see the operation grow!
Process
We’ve also been looking at process. Essentially just reigning in the chaos & developing standard procedures for various things, such as scripts, edits & news gathering. These’ll be importance once new staff come on, so it’s best to be ready in advance.
