Team Update | The E3 Madness Begins
Added 2019-06-09 14:46:13 +0000 UTCPhew, it’s about time we got this going! Now that Matt is helping on the writing/research front, I’m more freed up to put time into Patreon.
LAST WEEK
Warcraft Channel
Last week was very strong, but far less balanced than I would have liked. We had originally planned to get 3 Warcraft videos out - News last Saturday, the Classic video on Tuesday and a lore video on the Heart of Azeroth that Thursday. That... didn’t happen. With Patch 8.2 being quite far along on the PTR, there just wasn’t much news to talk about, which took out news, though we at least were able to get the Classic video out. As for the Heart of Azeroth lore, well that took a little longer than I would have liked to write, which actually ended up being in our favour. The latest PTR build added a bunch of new cutscenes that are super relevant to it, so that’ll end up making the final video quite a bit better indeed!
News Channel
Last week really did heat up on the news front! The pre-E3 leaks came in faster than any of us had anticipated, leading to there being a large number of exciting topics. We also have surprise news such as Blizzards game cancellation - which I’d heard about the project, news of its cancellation was new, so that certainly was an interesting one. While there was plenty to criticise, such as BLOPS4’s absurd business model situation, it was nice to also have positive news, such as Bungie’s plan for the future of Destiny & how Microsoft pretty much seem to ‘get it’. About darn time!
That all boiled down to the channel preforming well - a solid indicator that our content is getting out there, which has been very motivating for the team.
NEXT WEEK
Warcraft
Things are admittedly rather quiet on the Warcraft front, though we do still have a lot of content in the works. The 8.2 lore video will go up to Patreon early access once the audio is ready, which should be very soon. Once E3 is dealt with I’ll be moving on to 2 more lore videos, as well as getting work restarted on our patch retrospective series. The only major issue that we’ll face next is limited editing resources. I anticipate that E3 will be very busy indeed. Realistically, I don’t think we’ll be able to mitigate this, and I don’t want to push work hours any more than I have to - afterall, it’s a marathon, not a sprint. Doubly so as we’re moving towards creative more evergreen documentary like content.
News
Well, it’s E3. We all know what that means. There’ll be a hell of a lot to talk about, so expect plenty of videos throughout the coming week. We are postponing our next deep dive episode until next week - if it went out tomorrow, it’d just be buried by E3 content.
BTS
There isn’t much special to talk about on the BTS front bar it being all hands on deck. The only interesting thing is that we’ll have another pair of hands Monday through Wednesday. A friend of the team has taken time off work to cover E3 for his site, so he’ll be coming into the office during the daytime. This’ll mean additional writing and research resources, which should bump up the video quality.
That’s it for this update - there’s much to do, so I had best get back to it!
Cheers,
Michael
