Added 2025-01-26 09:33:58 +0000 UTCOP writes in to confess that he trapped his neighbors unfixed male cat and brought it to a shelter. Do you guys feel this was petty revenge? Was he a justifiable asshole? Or was this just way too far?

Although what the other owner did is negligent, I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night, thinking the cat may be confused and in distress, not being with its owner. And the habits may continue with new owners who are unable to correct his behaviors. Would he get put down being unable to be rehomed, and shelters being over cluttered? Additionally, I believe it was more revenge than petty revenge. Petty revenge would be turning the sprinkler on that side of the house, and sprinkle into your neighbors yard.

2025-01-27 00:05:03 +0000 UTCI agree that the cat owner is negligent. Outdoor cats are sooooo bad for bird populations and it’s also very unsafe for the cat. My only thought is that what if it’s a kill shelter?? I think there could have been a better way to go about this

2025-01-26 19:03:03 +0000 UTCCat owner is negligent and harming local cat and bird populations. One intact male can create THOUSANDS of offspring per year. I would do TSNIP, as shelters are overcrowded. Catch the cat, have him snipped, return him. Get a dog and the cat won't come in your yard anymore. Or do what I did and if the cat comes on my property, it's my cat now and keep him inside.

2025-01-26 18:59:32 +0000 UTCi agree with throwing the cat poop over to the neighbor's side, but leaving the cat at a shelter... that's too far for me

2025-01-26 17:45:52 +0000 UTCAs a cat person… that cat owner is not being a good pet parent. I don’t agree with what OP did, they should have taken the cat to a rescue; I would’ve just taken it inside and claimed it as mine 🙃😂.

2025-01-26 17:36:11 +0000 UTCOutdoor cats are horrible for the environment as is. The owner is extremely negligent as is for not fixing his cat. One more discussion would have been good before taking that measure, but the owner clearly didn’t care. Some people shouldn’t have pets if they won’t behave responsibly.

2025-01-26 17:33:57 +0000 UTCcat owner is irresponsible. i have no issues with cats roaming, but they need to be spayed and neutered. if i had been the OP, I might have either done the same thing or taken the cat to be neutered. But then I might possible choose to keep the cat for myself. If I am taking care of the cat, then he is mine now. You abdicated your rights. Years ago, I lived in an apt with a gf. There was a male cat who kinda ruled the place. He was father to, or had mated with, every female in the area. and he had fought for his territory against other males. but he was a real sweetheart. We planned to move and intended to take him and two other cats cats with us. The super came by one day and said "we noticed he is hanging out with you two a lot. If I pay to get him fixed, will you two take him with you?" We were like "uh... sure". We planned to do that with all three cats anyway. So it was a win for everyone.

2025-01-26 17:32:33 +0000 UTCSo as someone whose never liked cats and allergic to them. I say justifiable asshole because the owner is careless and neglecting the cat. It has more of a chance to die outside than it does indoors because there's other cats, dogs, wild animals, cars, etc. At least the shelter can keep it safe and possibly neuter it for a lower fee. It was becoming disgusting for OP and I understand cause cats really do start to smell so I can only imagine how bad it started becoming in OPs safe space, HIS HOME! I hope that owner learns a valuable lesson.

2025-01-26 16:57:16 +0000 UTCStory one is so conflicting but I lean towards justified asshole. Cat owners should not be letting their cats free roam, ESPECIALLY if they are not fixed. Not only will they create more cats, they can quickly destroy bird populations, and pick fights with other cats. Cats who go outside are also much more likely to pick up diseases spread by other animals. Not to mention, there are terrible people out there who would do worse to a cat on their property than trap and take to a shelter. I LOVE cats. I always had them growing up, and my mom let them outside. All of my cats from childhood eventually didn’t come home and I have no idea if they were hit by car, taken by someone else or killed by local wildlife. I have two cats now and they are my world. They are indoor only and very happy.

2025-01-26 15:22:11 +0000 UTCokay story one sort of pissed me off lol. idk why jenna is acting like there are no options and OP has to live and suffer in the litter box house hell hole. the solution is the owner keeps the cat out of OP’s yard. if the cat “HAS” to go outside, GET A LEASH. my dog has to go outside too, and it is well known that pets outside wear leashes, especially if they terrorize neighbors. also, the owner can’t be too upset the cat is gone if the cat has been at the shelter for days and OP hasn’t mentioned the owner confronting them.
