First Snow

When I sit down to make a comic, my first instinct is to draw an animal being quiet in nature, because I enjoy being quiet in nature. I wonder if my local city birds yearn for more quiet. A few weeks ago there was a heavy overnight snowfall which left the street feeling calmer and more intimate. I kept wanting to know what my neighbourhood crows thought about it.

so beautiful. I love how the trees and the moon reflect in the crows eye

2020-12-18 23:25:08 +0000 UTCThank you very much, Beth. Calvin and Hobbes has been a source of inspiration for me for over 20 years now! I still marvel while flipping through old Sunday strips at the use of colour and composition. It seems every time I go back to visit that comic, I realize something new! I bemoan social media for limiting cartoonists' creativity to little squares, but newspaper cartoonists of the 80s and 90s felt the same way while Watterson worked within the boundaries to create beautiful art. The two things aren't exactly parallel, but one of my goals for this next year is to try something new with the current constraints to make False Knees a richer world. Thank you Beth and everyone here! You energize me to get started on the next thing! ❤️

2020-12-16 05:04:19 +0000 UTCJosh, one of the things that draws me so much to your comics month after month (since I discovered it last March) is the similarity to the soul of Calvin and Hobbes. Watterson had such a unique thing going, which you have too. The world is presented beautifully, artistically, there’s energy and innocent moments, things that catch me off guard and I wake my husband up laughing at 1am, and there’s these thoughtful pauses too. Together it’s a fully fleshed out world that I can convincingly get lost in, or in the case of this year 2020, I can escape in. Artists bear the charge for many things, one of them is to lift the spirits of others. Thank you, I love your work. 🙏🏻
