She opens her home to us on Halloween for her amazing party and trick or treat with our daughter, we celebrate Christmas at her home. Every year one person (rotates) gets a mystery gift from them that's worth A LOT. Last year MIL got a house. They always give everyone $100 on top of gifts, and expensive wines/catered food for lunch. When I was pregnant with my daughter she let me hold my baby shower at her home, and it was amazing. They live in a gated community, in a 10,000 sq ft home. They're always so generous and welcoming to me, and so far other than my SIL only my husband has a partner and child, so the other two siblings whoever they may end up with will probably be welcomed too. They aren't "old money", they built from the ground up! I love both of them and always look forward to celebrating those holidays with them. As for OP, I would still be wary of the situation with her husband and his family.

I recognize her grief and can't even imagine how hard it is to go through the loss of a child. However, I am horrified several times every year when a picture of a dead child pops up on my newsfeed, rather than a picture of the child whose birthday is being celebrated
