Loved hearing how satisfied Justin and you were with some of the outcomes because I completely relate 😂 The parents’ complete 180 was one of my favorite parts. Also I’m so impressed with how much y’all called in advance given neither of you had heard all the story before! Y’all are definitely pros at deciphering Reddit stories now. I did have some input for those interested since I recently learned about different personality disorders in my psych class for nursing school and some of them definitely sound like the grandma and older brother in this story. Narcissistic personality disorder definitely fits and y’all called that really well. A big piece of that is exploiting others, lack of empathy, and a lot of blaming everyone else for their own problems/ issues. It was sad that grandma ended up being stuck in the care home, but yeah once you threaten/ attempt suicide (especially around any medical provider) they consider you a danger to yourself and cannot let you leave to live alone unless you’ve gone through therapy and made some radical improvements (and even then they would probably want a family member or live-in home health nurse there full time) Thankfully it seems like the rest of the family is doing well and improving a lot. It’s still crazy to me that the catalyst for all of it was wanting to propose at OP’s wedding 😅 But their growth definitely gives me hope for other Reddit stories and families out there. (Family therapy should be recommended more often though 😅)
