2024-07-29 21:56:02 +0000 UTCBROOOO okay now’s my time to shine. When I was on bipolar meds (misdiagnosis) one of them gave me like semi regular sleep paralysis. It was horrible. The worst one was when I was napping during the day. It was completely light out and I saw a man covered in blood come into my room and stare at me. Then from all walls and the ceiling I saw cockroaches crawling toward me. Then they turned into rats. And then they turned into little chihuahuas that started eating my skin as the man came over and started stabbing me. Literally remember it like it was yesterday. This was 5 years ago.

2024-04-04 15:58:13 +0000 UTCYou could have sleep apnea and not be getting enough oxygen, and that’s why you’re hallucinating.

2023-12-30 21:23:48 +0000 UTCThe nightmare is a crazy doc about sleep paralysis. Also make sure you don’t have sleep apnea. Lack of oxygen could be playing a part. Since he was a kid used to sleepwalk, and still dead as an adult, have night terrors, sleep paralysis, and the dinger he had sleep apnea, and almost died. He has brain damage. I’ve always been convinced they have to be linked. I’ve only had sleep paralysis once, and it was when I was pregnant, which makes me worried that my son will have it.

2023-12-30 21:23:28 +0000 UTCi dream about my teeth falling out nearly monthly, ive been told its a sign of stress & that tracks for me. i definitely dont experience a death every month 😅

2023-11-22 00:41:13 +0000 UTCI also had an experience with sleep paralysis. So I lived with my dad for a year when I was 11-12 and he is a very religious man. We would have all these crosses hung up ( important for later.) well during that year I would have these moments were I was awake and hear these distorted voices, then would wake up with cuts up and down my leg, nothing deep, just cuts. I didn’t know what was going on, but I suspected it was maybe the crosses that were haunted because my dad later told me they had belonged to a work colleague who had died in some kind of accident at his work. Never had anything happen either since I moved out.

2023-11-22 00:32:12 +0000 UTCSo two things, I heard of a tribe in North America that can communicate in dreams and an author I like traveled out there with someone because they communicated to her through her dreams and she didn’t understand until she looked up the symbols and she worked in some field that helped them be able to save the land I think… I forgot their name.

2023-11-22 00:28:17 +0000 UTCI have sleep paralysis and I can feel them coming. I think it’s when I’m anxious or sleeping facing up. Every single time, I hear my mom calling my name or hear someone calling me. I just close my eyes and pray …

2023-10-31 21:04:36 +0000 UTCalso regarding scratches etc. while asleep. you’re only paralysed during REM sleep, and it’s such a small portion of the time we spend sleeping that you’re probably scratching yourself while you sleep. if we were paralysed the whole time how would we steal blankets from each other or roll over in our sleep?
Maddie
2023-10-31 09:32:08 +0000 UTCnot sure if anyone has mentioned it but REM is actually the lightest stage of sleep. dreams can also happen in any stage of sleep but the vivid ones that we remember happen in REM because it’s the lightest. also everyone experiences deep sleep, some more than others but that’s usually due to health issues like insomnia, dementia or some mental illnesses

2023-10-31 09:24:16 +0000 UTCAt university I used to get sleep paralysis a bit and the most common one I got was growling as well. I could hear and feel something running around the edge of my bed and growling so deeply that it terrified me, it felt like if I put one foot out of my bed I would die. Thankfully I haven’t had that happen in a long time

2023-10-31 00:14:08 +0000 UTCMy (now) husband gets his sleep paralysis more so when there is a change, like when we moved in together 5 years ago. Or if he is feeling anxious. Over the years i have actually learned his breathing pattern which sounds weird. But his breathing changes in a way that i wake up and put my hand on his chest and tell him its okay and it wont happen fully. But he will wake up and ask if it was coming on it feels like a vague memory.

2023-10-30 23:08:20 +0000 UTCI've had sleep paralysis for years now, there was a time when it happened so often (like 3x a week) I really just got used to it. The way I explain the feeling is like the scene in the first movie of Harry Potter when they are stuck in the roots of a tree and the more you fight it the more pressure it puts and the more it asphyxiates you, so you just have to calm down do little to no breaths and wait it out. After a certain number of times it happens to you you kinda realize that you're in the middle of a sleep paralysis when it happens and it gets easier to deal with.

2023-10-30 20:11:21 +0000 UTCI tried talking to my doctor about my sleep paralysis and all she did was look at me confused and say “everyone is paralyzed when they sleep” 😑

2023-10-30 18:27:56 +0000 UTCThere is a documentary about sleep paralysis and people who have dealt with it their wholes lives called the Nightmare.

2023-10-30 15:38:35 +0000 UTCWe’re a Mexican family and my sister and I are now brujerias. We each practice a little differently but communicate with ancestors consistently.

2023-10-28 22:55:20 +0000 UTCIn college, I’ve had growling in my bedroom, thought I left my comp on and it was a YouTube vid or something. It’s wasn’t. I also felt the pressure on my chest. It happened a few times and then I would completely shutdown and unplug it, and then it stopped. When I was a kid I had sleep paralysis but it was old white men, like colonial times, screaming and then passing me. Just their heads. One after another. After that there was a ghost girl who would play on our bedroom floor and I would look down from the top bunk of the bed terrified. My sisters furbie also started talking in the middle of the night and wouldn’t stop until I slammed it on the ground. My childhood home is haunted, cabinets opening and closing, trash can top swinging, light inserts flying across the room, etc. We always just acknowledge that we’re not alone and say hi. Then it would stop. we’ve also had visits from family members, and been able to communicate with them through electronic toys. Literally the toy stopping mid song after my little sister asked it to stop playing with her toy. She then said never mind you can play with it, after a few moments it starts again, then stopped. In my apartment now, I see shadows, and often someone is staring at me from the inside of my apartment when I’m relaxing on my porch bench. I’m very careful with energy in my home, I’ll ask people to leave if they’re getting angry, or speaking in an unkind way - about anyone, even people not in my home. I also have premonitions in my dreams, the only time I dreamt my best friend was pregnant was a month before she conceived her daughter. It can be scary, but mostly it’s cool.

2023-10-28 22:53:42 +0000 UTCOkay so I’ve had what I think is sleep paralysis bc I think I’m awake but I’m still sleeping and I CANNOT move and I feel panicked, but most of the time, there is no presence or figure or “demon” I just can’t move. The only time I remember there being something was one time I was dog sitting and I had it and I heard noise that sounded like a dog sniffing and panting and I though the dogs had gotten out of the big kennels they sleep in and I was trying to move to get to them but I couldn’t move from my position in bed and I felt suffocated

2023-10-28 05:14:00 +0000 UTCIve had sleep paralysis since I was seven. The shadow things in the corner used to scare but idc anymore. What I didn't like that happened once was looking down at my feet and something shuffling the blankets side to side underneath. It petrified me. I came out of it crying

2023-10-27 18:39:30 +0000 UTCI used to get sleep paralysis when I was stressed out in the way that my spirit was hurting. It stopped when I adopted my kitty 🥹🐈

2023-10-27 16:25:32 +0000 UTCI’ve also had the growling hallucination! And naps were almost always the trigger for me. I wish these was more research on this so we could see if there’s any meaning to these connections!

2023-10-27 15:15:54 +0000 UTCDUDE ALEJANDRA. I have had the exact same experience as you with sleep paralysis!! I fell asleep on the couch and I woke up paralyzed, felt a presence right behind me. Like had that tingling feeling on the side of my head that you get when someone/something is close to you. And then I heard a deep, monstrous growl in my ear 😳 my jaw ached from trying to scream for help. I didn’t have a dog at the time btw. I’ve had a few other spooky experiences with it, but like you said they usually aren’t visual hallucinations. The only time I really saw something was in an old hotel in Boston, but that’s another story…

2023-10-27 15:13:58 +0000 UTCI had the craziest sleep paralysis thing a few months ago. My husband was out of town & I went to sleep as usual on my side of the bed. I woke up suddenly throwing up, cleaned up & decided to move to his side. (Annoyed cause I never throw up 😅) I then kept feeling pressure on my arm & assumed my dog was trying to get on the bed, but when I looked I couldn’t see him. Shrugged it off. I then was seeing myself from above, arm being pulled into the top corner of my bed/wall. I kept saying “stop, knock it off!” to whatever was pulling me. And grabbing my arm with my other hand to fight back.& I thought I moved back to my side of the bed.. but I never actually got up, & was still on his side when I woke up. Now that I think of it, there is a mirror on the end of his half of the bed 😅☠️ it looks so good there though I don’t wanna move it 😂

2023-10-27 00:58:12 +0000 UTCThis kinda stuff can be related to sleep disorders! I have Narcolepsy as well as REM sleep behavior disorder and I have the most insane dreams, sometimes act out my dreams while asleep, and lucid dream regularly. I also have superrrr vivid dreams where I sometimes get dream world/real world mixed up. I’ve only experienced sleep paralysis once or twice personally, but it’s a common symptom of Narcolepsy (of course sleep paralysis does not automatically mean Narcolepsy)

2023-10-27 00:22:52 +0000 UTCAlso, when I was younger I dreamed about my teeth were falling in more that one occasion, my grandma always said that when we dreams about that is because someone was going to die. So, unfortunately I had 3 experiences that I dreamed about it and in the same day someone near me or a friend’s family die. The first one was with my great grandmother, then a friend’s grandmother, and then my grandfather. I don’t know if was casualties or that actually were related, but since if happened 3 times now every time that I dream about teeth I get scared and pray to nothing bad happens to anyone. Thank good I haven’t dream about teeth for a long time.

2023-10-26 22:28:03 +0000 UTCI have lucid dreams mostly of the time, to the point that if I wake up and the dream was exited, I try to come back to see if I can continue it to see how it finish the history lol. Most of the time the dream continues were I left it like it was a movie that I press pause and continue the history. I also, can change or manipulate the environment in my dreams, in what I can change dreams if I don’t like the one that I’m having. I don’t know if someone else had experienced something similar, I really I would love to see if that is normal lol.

2023-10-26 20:49:59 +0000 UTCthe ONLY story I thought you repeated once was the story about the husband who wanted to be referred to as a “pilot” even though he only “flew” on a simulator. You read it with your dad because of his flying hobby but I also swore up and down that you read it with Justin separately I very well could be wrong lol I just had a deep sense of Deja Vu and I don’t listen to any other Reddit podcasts. Either way, you put out amazing content week after week and I’m so grateful for that! It gets me through long days of work ♥️

2023-10-26 19:36:41 +0000 UTCI get sleep paralysis! Last time I had it bad I was stuck in my dream it was like a combination of lucid dreaming/ sleep paralysis. This happened maybe a year or so ago. I realized I was sleeping while in my dream, I had this off feeling like Alejandra said just dread. It was pitch black all around me and as I’m looking frantically around trying to figure out what’s going on I see a window. I go up to it and look in, I could see myself laying down it was my bedroom window. A second later as I’m watching myself the other me had noticed me, gotten up, walked to the window looking at “sleeping” me, and had a very concerning look. My eyes (the other me) got super wide, started banging on the window, and mouthing the words “RUN, GO, GO!!” immediately after that I hear this blood curdling, high pitched, deafening, scream. I panic even more, cover my ears from the horrible sound, close my eyes and keep telling myself “Come on Kelsie. wake up, wake up, WAKE UP!!!”. I wouldn’t wake up, I closed my eyes again and just started pleading with myself or whatever to wake up please!! After what felt like an eternity begging to wake up I finally did. My heart is racing I’m sweating it was horrible I couldn’t go back to sleep. I didn’t really proofread that, sorry if it’s confusing! I just had another episode of it too the other night while I was trying to get my daughter to bed.🥲

2023-10-26 19:20:46 +0000 UTCThere is actually a fascinating possible explanation for a sudden onset of scratches on the body— it’s called shiitake flagellate dermatitis and it’s most often caused by eating undercooked shiitake mushrooms. It’s called flagellate dermatitis because the rash looks like whiplash marks. It can appear even 5 days after the consumption of the mushrooms. Look up some pics, it’s gnarly

2023-10-26 18:24:08 +0000 UTCi don’t listen to any other reddit podcasts and i’m almost 100% certain you’ve never read the same story twice lol and i’ve listened to every episode most likely more than once.

2023-10-26 16:58:19 +0000 UTCI don’t think you’ve ever reread any stories. I have listened to every episode since you started. There are lots of stories that have similar ish tones though. I do remember something similar with a MIL making the DIL sick on purpose but I can’t remember exactly what happened.

2023-10-26 16:29:37 +0000 UTCMost recently, I had a dream that I was outside and I found a sun cheek conure (bird, which we have had a few of) so thought it was one that had passed away. Two weeks later, my mom rescued a sun cheek conure. Just weird things like that.
Alyssa Turpin
2023-10-26 16:14:57 +0000 UTCAlso I’m with Alejandra on the being obsessed with dreams thing. When I tell my mom about my dreams, she says that she doesn’t like to hear it bc it means something. Not always but sometimes i’ll have a dream about something and then later it ends up connecting to something in real life. It’s wild, my mom also has “visions” that sometimes happen as well. It’s this weird gut feeling like you know it’s significant somehow.
Alyssa Turpin
2023-10-26 16:12:28 +0000 UTCI have so much to say, but I’ll start with I can’t recall you rereading any of the same stories. This is the only reddit podcast I listen to, and I’m pretty confident you haven’t reread anything! I love this theme though, I love spooky stuff and have always been pretty open to things and it’s so interesting to hear other people’s experiences bc then it feels more normal. I recently had an exploding head incident when I was waking up one morning, the only weird thing is…. I swear my dog growled right before it happened. 😬
Alyssa Turpin
2023-10-26 15:55:29 +0000 UTCI’ve had sleep paralysis my entire life now. Sometimes I see a dark figure walking around my bed or coming towards me. Since I’m used to it now, and ai recognize it. I just lay there until it’s over. For a long time I always tried to scream tho, but I couldn’t… besides that I also have lucid dream “cycles” I get stuck in, not knowing how I can wake myself up
Carlijne
2023-10-26 15:51:04 +0000 UTCAlso Ale I feel you, I had auditory hallucinations too of growling and scurrying. And the panic/doom feeling doesn’t feel like a choice, it’s more like a direct symptom
sokojenn
2023-10-26 04:15:39 +0000 UTCI had sleep paralysis for years! And naps were highly likely to trigger it. Mine went away entirely and rather mysteriously, though I think poor sleep routines and high stress can bring it. It becomes kind of a vicious cycle if it’s keeping you up

2023-10-26 03:54:17 +0000 UTCOne time I threw up on my friends bed and he was like “oh it’s totally fine, I don’t sleep on my bed bc I see demons” I was so confused and he explained sleep paralysis and that it only happens when he sleeps on his bed so he sleeps on the floor

2023-10-26 03:06:48 +0000 UTCOmg I used to always get sleep paralysis. After a few years I started to notice EVERY time I napped during the day & was sleeping on my back it would happen.

2023-10-26 00:47:05 +0000 UTCI suffer from sleep paralysis episodes. The most creepy was one night I fell asleep on the floor in my daughter's room. I got sleep paralysis so I decided to just not fight it and let it pass. I felt my dog walking around and sniffing my face before walking off. When I finally came out of it I went to go find my dog sonI could put him in his crate. Except he was already in his crate. In a deep sleep. I realized it wasn't my dog sniffing my face.

2023-10-25 23:55:49 +0000 UTCafter my father passed i had a dream he came back and my brother was in it trying to convince me that it was my dad and i kept crying and saying it’s not him in my dream and my brother forced me to hug him while i was yelling and saying that the thing was my dad and i woke up crying because i was so convinced it was something trying to hurt me and using my grief with my father. i never believed it was him

2023-10-25 23:14:05 +0000 UTCAbout the Sleep Parálisis documentary, there's one on Netflix called The Nightmare, it came out in 2015....also I have seen a horror movie about it, it's is really scary, and I have seen my fare share of horror, but this one shook me, it's called Mara, I think is in YouTube, it really good but scary

2023-10-25 23:08:09 +0000 UTCI can lucid dream and also have absurdly vivid dreams to the point that I don’t remember what happened in my real world or my head (it’s an actual problem and very frustrating). The only way I can tell I’m in a dream is if the light switches don’t work.
Kelly Minear
2023-10-25 22:23:36 +0000 UTCI get sleep paralysis semi often but maybe I’m weird because I kind of like it after I wake up from it 😂 I’ve never been touched/hurt by anything though usually I just see a dark figure looking over me or I hear yelling and I can’t move or get up.
Kay
2023-10-25 22:20:54 +0000 UTCThe closest experience I've had to sleep paralysis/exploding head syndrome is hallucinating spiders in my bed. Like seeing HUGE spiders on my pillow when I wake up in the middle of the night. It's happened like 5 times in my life and every time I throw on the lights and there's nothing. Scary in the moment but wayyyy less scary than a sleep paralysis demon 😵💫
Mak
2023-10-25 21:46:56 +0000 UTCI have experienced both. It doesn’t happen very often and I’ve never had a “demon” touch me/try to hurt me. They just watch me and sines approach me. Luckily, I can work myself up enough to make some kind of noise so my fiancé can wake me up. Otherwise, I can’t move or do much else besides yell. It is very frightening. The audio is much better now. Thanks! 😇
