March 2023 Full Bonus Episode ft. Uncle Jimmy

Join us for March's full bonus episode with my uncle Jimmy. We start off with a little karmic justice (Or is it.. is the real question) and change things up and start pulling stories from all across the board. Some stories are a bit more serious than others but it does end on a lighter note.

Thoughts on these ones?

Comments

Is this Jerry's brother? Sounds just like him haha

Shelby Hoggin

I thought you all were way too easy on the estranged father. Parents are the ones in the position of power, so even though we don’t know the details, it’s easy to extrapolate who the wronged party was. I wish somebody told my estranged father I’m dead.

Prances McLassie

Who's to say he wasn't cheating though? I'm curious how this was disproven.

Jules Sheppard

I honestly don't know that I think the girlfriend was the asshole. If I were in her shoes I probably would have said something like "what son? The one that's dead... to you? You don't have a son." And then asked him to leave. I'm also assuming she knows her boyfriend's feelings on the matter and that she has far more/better context than we do. Personally I think it would be hilarious if someone managed to pull this with some of my estranged family members. Edit to add that I hate that age gap though.

Lauren Joyner

I kinda like that the girlfriend told his dad he was dead. As someone with an estranged relationship with their dad, It would honestly give me some fulfillment to know that he felt just as terrible as he made me feel. I think I might even go along with it so that he would feel that bad for an extended period of time. It’s not like there is anything he could do or say to mend things, so might as well think i’m dead for real since that’s what he asked for. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I really hope you see this and maybe do an update. The good Samaritan laws in many states (CA has one) make it so people who call 911 when some one is overdosing won't get in trouble. Also narcan is very easy to use and get. Most pharmacy will give it to you for free. I just don't want people thinking they will get in trouble if they call 911 so they don't call and someone dies. I have personally called 911 in a situation where I was also using drugs and did not get in trouble. I didn't even get asked for my name. I am in recovery now thank God! Love the pod! Hope you see this!

Kara Dickenson

You don’t need any kind of certification to carry narcan! There are resources online to get it. In WA at least :)

I was just listening to the Hot Problems Cold Solutions episode with Uncle Jimmy (I know not this one, I just needed a place to post this). You talked about being able to do genetic testing to find out if you’re predisposed to things. 1) 23andMe and other services are not medical information or medical advice. They give that disclaimer. Their analysis has a high error rate and certain things that they measure are only partially correlated with the conclusions. You are very likely to get false positives and false negatives, which can cause unnecessary anxieties as well as false confidence. 2) Genetic testing even from a geneticist only gives you part of a picture as gene mapping is still such a small part of the picture. Type 2 diabetes for instance is very highly associated with family history, but the disease itself is polygenomic and multifactorial so there is no “diabetes gene” to point to. Just figured you’d want to know, and also because people really really should not be using 23andMe to guide their health decisions.

Nah yall I’d be pissed too if someone had sex in my bed I feel like the violating and disrespectful. Especially bc the sister offered and the brother didn’t even ask for her to come and help.

Meka Sampler

On the last one I have to disagree. I could understand you saying he's slept in beds that people have had sex on. But that it's his sister is weird and I could understand. I don't think he should have kicked her out but instead said that he wasn't very comfortable with that or something

Hallie Boorsma

I can't even understand stealing the ticket. it like doesn't make sense because obviously that's is something she will find out pretty quickly when she doesn't have the tickets for the show. It really shows how desperate she was for the drugs that she didn't care if her sister found out she stole vs. just like looking for cash and stuff

Hallie Boorsma

I was SHOCKED to find out that Uncle Jimmy is not actually Jerry’s brother. They sound like the exact same person!

Brie Sheehy

Your Uncle Jimmy seems so sweet and lovely, I loved hearing his perspective on this episode and the full ep that dropped today! ☺️

Grace S.

I don't want anyone sleeping in my bed at all....I'd burn the mattress.

Nia Violet

Also wish I could’ve seen the look on that OBGYNs face when they heard the name that couple had planned 😂

Shelby khan

In Georgia we have a law that if you’re with a friend & they OD- you can call the police/an ambulance and you won’t face charges. I wish more places had that, because I’m sure it would save a lot of lives. Gotta take the fear out of getting help.

Shelby khan

My brother was addicted to heroin and other drugs for most of my childhood. It was so hard because you don’t understand why they get so much attention when they are constantly stealing and ruining the families lives. Especially when you are at a young age and you need that support from your parents but they are busy trying to help your sibling who is 15 years older than you. I hated my brother so a very long time. I blamed him for everything and would be the one who was yelled at when I said something to him or called him out. He pawned his children’s iPads and no one wanted to say something to him. I’m 23 now and he has been clean for 3 plus years. He’s doing so well for himself and his family but it’s so hard for me to get over what he did even though he is trying to make up for everything now. I really relate to OP but I will give my parents a lot of credit because they would pick up the pieces he left and make it right to the person he hurt. They took his wife and kids in and they lived with us for years and made sure that they were always provided for. Addiction is hard for all involved. It’s a disease that I don’t wish on anyone. Sorry for the rant lol

jenna marrie

I STAN UNCLE JIMMY!! Haha but seriously have Uncle Jimmy on 100 more times. He is so articulate and emotionally intelligent! Appreciate his insight!!!

Jewel Hohman

Omg so I’m not the only who thinks this! I thought I was going insane lol

Danylle

I have been clean for about the same amount of time from opiates and cocaine! I never stole from my friends or family either when I lived at home, from around the age of OP to OPs sisters age. I think one time I took a $20 from my dads walker and felt so guilty I put it back and a few weeks later I asked him to put me through rehab, and he did. I now have a 2 yo daughter as well and my fiancé has been clean the whole time we've been together, and my life is so different now. My younger sister however is my parents golden child and she's stolen money from both of them and used their debit and credit cards to buy illegal, venomous snakes and hair products. However she's still at home at almost 24, and my mom still throws in my face that I used drugs and says I "ruined her life" and my sister has called me a "drug addicted whore" And insulted I sold myself for drugs, which I never did that either. I was in college and worked two jobs as a waitress. It pisses me off that they act like I took even a penny from them, my mom would hide her purse and her rings in her bedroom when I had never taken anything in years, and never so much as asked for gas money (rehab covered by my dads insurance and was outpatient, I paid out of pocket for one on one therapy every week). In fact, if my mom thought I was using, she would drain my bank account and never gave me any money back after I peed in a cup and proved I was sober! Needless to say, I love my dad and miss living with him but I'm glad I'm not since my parents are still married and my mom brings it up anytime something irks her. Plus I don't have to worry about my sister stealing from me and letting loose a deadly snake in my room.

Clarissa Thompson

The story about the sister stealing the tickets angered me sooo much. I’m an opiate addict and have been clean for over five years now and I have never stolen from anyone and would go to work sick just to make sure I would have my check to buy my fix (not saying I was better than any other addict because I definitely wasn’t) but I have a cousin who is the worst opiate addict I’ve ever seen. He’s been to treatment at least a dozen times he’s died a few times and it’s just really bad. He’s stolen things from me in the past like a tablet and some other things and I’ve let it go but what he did this last time is so unforgivable I will never talk to him again even if he turns his life around. He had been clean for a few weeks and needed a place to sleep and I agreed. My father(his name was Jerry) had passed a few weeks prior and he was a drummer and a lover of rock and roll and vinyl records. I’m his only child so I got pretty much everything. I had brought home some of his records and a lot of them were really valuable. I went to go get a coffee the next morning and grab a few groceries and my partner at the time was taking care of the baby upstairs. My cousin took that opportunity to snatch up those records and was going to pawn shops trying to sell them. Well I have a cousin on my dads side that works at one of the pawn shops and he knew every record my dad had and when he seen my other cousin come in the shop with them he said no we don’t buy those and immediately called me and told me what was up. He left work and him and I divided up the rest of the places in town that buy records and I found him! I started beating him up in the store and the owner wasn’t even mad about it as he had suspected my cousin had stolen them from someone (he just doesn’t look the type to have them) the cops were called and the record shop guy estimated the records at over 500 so that’s a felony and my cousin then had a warrant put out for his arrest and I was so lucky to get my records back. When I got home I was looking for my daughters shoe and looked under my couch and found drug paraphernalia which means he had been using in my house so it’s a double slap in the face. He was using in my house and must’ve relapsed the night before because I know he was clean and it was my drug of choice too so super messed up. And he stole my dead fathers records knowing how sentimental they are to me and freshly after he passed away. The cops ended up arresting him later on and his dad and brother were begging me to drop the charges 😂 absolutely fuckin not! He ended up getting bailed out by his dad and he ran states away… I know this is super long so sorry 😅 addiction makes people do crazy shit and it’s unfortunate. Morgan that’s really sweet of you to offer to help get her new tickets and I hope it works out! And I hope her sister gets the help she needs 🖤🖤🖤

Last story; I'm in the minority with you two but I would be *pissed* if someone had sex in my bed when I was away. That is MY bed. Granted, I have issues with people touching my things in general. That aside Great to have Jimmy on THT
