March Bonus Story #1 -- VIDEO

Almond mom is such a new term for me. This one was interesting! Thoughts?

I’m also looking at the time line, and OP is 24 and her kid is eight. She birthed him at sixteen, and probably conceived at fifteen or when she just turned sixteen. My mother had me when I was young and was a single mother. It’s HARD. Being a single mother is difficult, and every day can be a sacrifice. And OP seems to be doing an amazing job. Having a woman, especially a new friend, come into your life after everything and call her an almond mom for not buying her child a TREAT, is so hurtful. It’s not necessarily ideal to just snap and yell like that, but if the kid heard that? That’s a bad experience for her daughter. The friend disrespected her for setting healthy boundaries. God, if my mom said yes to every treat I tried to sneak into the card when I was a kid, she’s be in debt and I’d still have an unhealthy relationship with food!

she’s spinning lies to her other friends about what occurred. being an almond mom is now not letting your child eat THE MOST (up there, at least) processed food in the grocery store, while offering a similar treat at home? Kids don’t need a snack like that every day. And on top of that? Baking with my mom…. SO MUCH BETTER than getting a little plastic piece of chocolate out of a little bag.

Yess :/ spotify decided to switch gears and not continuing with those shows.

Solid points have been made :) hehe you're right. Little ears are very perceptive and the friend could have done some damage...

I love Jordan , she always says exactly what I’m thinking & gives the best takes for both sides . I also think OP was NTA . I’d be upset if someone told me how to parent my child , especially coming from someone who isn’t a parent . && also being called an “almond mom” could be taken as an insult . If someone insulted me in front of my child , I think I’d react the same way . Not sure I’d continue to be friends with someone like that tbh

I totally get what you're saying about how the comment from OP to the friend could have been handled better, but on the other hand, if someone told me I was going to give my daughter an eating disorder (WHILE SHE'S IN EARSHOT, she wasn't in the car yet) I would be pissed off too. If it was just an offhand "you're an almond mum" and the subsequent lecture then I totally agree it should have been handled with a polite but firm response and an internal eye roll, but that comment about giving the kid an eating disorder oversteps a line. Should OP have responded more calmly? Likely. Would I have? Absolutely not lol. At least OP had her daughter in the car before rounding on the friend

Yes, agreed! It really seems like the friend was projecting, and likely embellished when talking to friends behind OP's back to get them on-side

Courtney DC

What also bothered me was the talking behind the OP’s back to the other friends! So rude and unnecessary!

Karina Martins

Just came here to say the same. It does seem like OP’s friend is projecting

Brittany Emery

I wonder if the new friend is projecting anything she dealt with when she was younger onto this mother and daughter situation? Love Jordan and I love the view!
