February Bonus Story #1 -- VIDEO

Yes! ADHD isn’t an out, it makes some things harder, but there are solutions for each situation.

Tbh, this story came down to being thoughtful. As a fellow adhd-er and dog owner, I can see the forgetfulness, but when you notice someone is making a deliberate effort to avoid an environment that literally pains her, it’s not about the adhd- it’s that you’re making zero effort to mitigate the results of yours and your dogs behavior. It’s also not a puppy, this dog should have been trained.

And the "out of sight out of mind" is literally a HUGE ADHD thing. Ever heard of object permanence? That's what he's getting at

Also, you may not like pugs, but if you had one some day, you'd fall in love. I didn't used to like them and now I breed them.

A "black westie" is a scottie

Kaitlyn Cesario

“black westie” is technically a cairn terrier. They were one of the breeds to create westies which is why they look so similar.

My name sound like orange

I have ADHD as well and I feel when people blame their shitty attitude on adhd it’s a cop out. You can’t just say “sorry I’m inconsiderate because I have adhd” you have to take accountability. It’s good to know why you’re like that but to then do nothing about it is irresponsible imo.

For someone who talks about neurodivergence so much, the way you talk about this man is pretty gross. Yes, he’s in the wrong but he also has ADHD and for you to claim to be so understanding of neurodivergent diagnoses, you’re not being understanding of his condition. It sounds like you only respect neurodivergence when it aligns with your beliefs or your condition. Yeah, he needs to find a better solution to get his energy out but to call him terrible and to say this is the most infuriating story of any story on here when there’s been terribly abusive people is messed up. Also, saying “it’s just a dog” and calling yourself a dog lover don’t really go hand and hand. You’re “just a person” in a world of over 7 billion people.

omg! I wanted to tell you that I switched to smart lights that fade in almost a full hour before my alarm has to go off. I have consistently woken up when a sleep cycle is done, and not jerked out of deep sleep by shock to it. It simulates sunrise, and it's everything! Ages ago, I used an app to track sleep movement using my phone. I set an alarm window, and when it suspected I was in a good place to wake up, the alarm went off. I used that for quite a while. I don't know if there is something equivalent now, but it definitely helped my sleep delay/sleep procrastination issues from ADHD for a while.

“Epilogue” from La La Land is a great song to set for your alarm. Very gradual and gorgeous

This entire time I was thinking… what’s life with the dog going to be like when the baby comes? Yikes!!!

Ashley

This is exactly why my fiancé and I are spending $1,400 on training… to not only better our lives but ultimately better our dogs lives. People are so selfish in the way they treat their animals and it drives me nuts.

Georgia

Alarms piss me off too and i’ve been waking up to Cherry Wine by Hozier for the last 5 years 😌 The only song that I’ve not gotten sick of hearing every morning

Dogs are pack animals and need someone in charge! I used to be so uncomfortable at my mom's house because the dog would jump on me and had sharp nails and I'd get scratches on my leg, but would get told, 'This is their home too!' Also, postpartum I felt a huge disconnect from my cat, who was like my child before, like camera roll full of cat pictures. With all the new responsibilities of a baby, it was just one more thing that needed my time and attention.

Bri

If my husband ignored my needs like this while I was pregnant we'd have a serious conversation about parenting. Is this what you're going to say to our child when they need you? Get over yourself? I'm packing my bags

OMG thank you for your takes on this!! TRAIN YOUR DOGS PEOPLE!! I have a cardiac alert service dog and the amount of people who bring their dogs into store they shouldn't be in and have tried to attack me and my service dog is crazy! Not every dog needs to be service dog level but every dog should have basic manners and know how to act around other people and dogs. It is honestly so sad that people get dogs thinking they don't need to train it. From the sounds of it this person got a corgi because they are cute and did not actually research of the breed. Like Morgan said they are a herding breed so in the morning he should be outside on a walk / run or be given a mental stimulation food puzzle for his breakfast. I too have severe ADHD along with my heart problems and still managed to train my service dog to be an outstanding canine citizen. ADHD is no excuse to not train your dog smh.

I got my dog may of this past year on my birthday, my dream breeds, he's a mix of husky and Aussie. Little did I know I was adopting a full blood terrorist, and while I grew up with dogs I have NEVER had a dog like mine. He jumps on people, chews carpet, and anything left on counters, can't be alone, very high energy constantly, digs up the yard, scratches to be let out/ come in from outside, and never ever listens. I have tried training and am saving money to get him professionally trained. Especially with a high energy dog it can be extremely hard and frustrating, because no matter how much play I give he is still wild. A great solution though? Doggie daycare, I had to sign him up because I couldn't leave him alone at my parents house, but it has been a god send. For me he only goes half a day which is about $25, a very small price to pay for him to come so tired. He gets his necessary exercise and gets to interact with other dogs. I personally use a company called dogtopia, I did have to search at first because the first location was shitty, but the one he is at now he has always loved and the trainer (the people who watch the dog, sadly they dont train) are lovely. I honestly recommend anyone with a dog to go there, they have three rooms, one for small and low energy dogs, one for medium size and medium to high energy dogs, and a third for large and medium to high energy dogs. Its completely safe, they do temperament test, and never cuddle or hold dogs, they are huge on ensuring no jealous is created, and will break up anything before it gets to a fight. Its truly amazing and has saved me, but its also showed me the importance of letting your dog exercise and be a dog. Also Morgan I love the podcast thank you so much for creating it, new patron here but a long time listener!

Abby

when Morgan said “unfortunately” to the guy being the girls fiancé & not just bf - i feel like this was pretty loaded. For someone who talks about neurodivergence & OT - he’s literally ADHD. This is what ADHD looks like. Agree, train the dog - but there’s some bias in this response. Also, life-long westie owner & I had no idea they came in black either!

emily

I had to go on anti anxiety meds when I was pregnant because I became fearful of our two cats. It’s totally a thing! I love our fur babies and everything is fine now, they’re so good to our (now) toddler! But I could not stop thinking about the what-ifs. What if they give the baby a disease? Or hurt her? Or she’s allergic? On and on. It only got better after I actually gave birth! Pregnancy is wild.
