I feel ya. I take people at face value and assume goodness all too often. It was so cute even though I know the feeling of disappointment.

Also I’d really appreciate not being sent stuff like that. I don’t read it as it makes me not want to do the podcast anymore and is a bit damaging for my mental health. Love people have a space to talk amongst each other it’s just a boundary I’ve had to enact for myself.

2022-10-27 01:51:16 +0000 UTCI get that and I’m not saying she wasn’t wrong or doesn’t deserve to be punished. But punishment without compassion will only encourage the behavior. That’s my huge point. She’s 13 and pretty much crying out for help and no one is listening. It scares me for the kid because that leads teens especially down a deep hole. I think trying to reach out to OP is a wonderful idea! I’m not just worried for her but the other daughter too. And I don’t think it’s up to them to fix things. They’re still kids.

I get there a lot more there and this problem is nuanced and like I said the family royally fucked up. But I still cant give her a pass for saying something like that.. awhh its so tough. I get hurt people hurt people but she's still got to understand that's not okay. I hope the family gets on the same page, starts to understand both kiddos, and gets them in therapy though. May have to chat OP to see if the account is still up

Police also don’t recommend using them to make kids scared of police because it can deter them from getting help if they need it. Obviously, there are factors that play into that, but it’s still something to consider. I think that the idea of the parents paying for it and having the 15 y/o pay them back is a better idea!

When I was 14/15 and depressed, constantly felt compared to my brother, and felt a whole bunch of pressure to the point it was crippling, I asked my mother in the heat of the moment why she gave birth to me. I didn’t get grounded for a month but after that, we started to understand all the built up resentment and could finally start to resolve it

So with the 15 year old story, I think a lot of us were upset because we had literally just heard a story about two sides and you guys are always such an advocate for therapy. Now part of why I’m upset is because they actively tried to force that step sibling relationship while also building sibling rivalry which is unhealthy (coming from someone with a healthy stepfamily situation). The issue is as that I’m caring for the daughter who lost her mom, the other daughter started to lose her mom in a different way. There should’ve been a repercussion but that was a cry for help and attention. Grounded for a month is unfair when the family created that environment for her. She’s not the only one at fault

I wonder if the little sister wanted to try the bike because her family can't afford one? It wouldn't make it okay, but I feel like OP needed to provide a lot more context. Both the little sister and son being the same age seems like a complicated family dynamic if they're being raised in the same household.
