TMM 005: Hello Kitty and The Plague Project

After a lovely Christmas break with friends and family I've made my way back to the studio to do some more kitbashing.

This will be an art piece combining kitbashing, sculpting, textiles, found objects and diorama. The focus will be a converted Hello Kitty and the piece has a bit of a light hearted narrative about my current relationship with the hobby I love.

On somewhat of a side note, I’ve also come up with a plan of what I want to do with my plague toad models. The concept of ‘The Plague Project’ would be to sell a handful of toads in a pop up shop on my website. These toads would come with a clause that allows the purchaser to mould, cast and sell (or giveaway) these models if desired, but secondary buyers must also abide by the same clause. My hope is that we could create a plague of toads and I think it would be fun to watch the model change and deteriorate as it gets passed on through people.

In Patron Pics we’re going to showcase patron works. Our first submission is from Oliver C who’s created a Gizmo badge, sculpted from green stuff onto a piece of card and then super glued onto a badge. It’s terrifying and we love it.

White Markers

I bought A LOT of white pens/markers to make art for Arcane Ugly and by far the best type was Uni POSCA pens. They were the best compromise between coverage and compatibility of writing surfaces. The Uniball Signo pens were the runner up and what I use if I want really fine lines. Alcohol based pens, despite the awesome coverage I had lots of issues with them lifting up paint/color from the writing surfaces and they always ended up stained a light grey.

There’s always strange things lying about the studio. In some of my videos you may have seen the art piece that just says ‘HANG UP’.

This was a piece I had to install after implementing a strict no phone calls in the studio rule after having to overhear too many phone calls.

Comment from Rachel: Trent does not abide by the no phone calls rule.

This piece is from a friend in the studio, Zane. I requested a way to hold my clippers and after going through many more efficient designs I decided on something that would showcase the tools instead. Displaying the tools in the same way I might display the finished art, I think, shows how much value I place in the process, not just the final art produced. These clippers and pliers were finds from the camera repair workshop in the TV studio.
