She lost her temper in the end, but Amethyst was trying to help (she just isn't very good at this kind of thing.) She was talking a lot more nicely and calmly at first (you were a bit surprised since it's quite different from usual Amethyst,) telling Peri that she shouldn't focus on what she could be (being a "defective" Gem in the way they are is like a disability, so she was telling her she should accept herself the way she is,) but got angry when Peridot was shutting out her and everything else by clinging on to her tablet. I think another reason Amethyst got so mad was that she was really putting effort into comforting Peridot and Peri just ignored her.

Yeah, it would definitely make sense for Homeworld to make Peridot believe they're nothing without they're extensions. So now, having a chance to actually try, discovers that they do in fact have some powers. I keep forgetting that I can't really use Steven as reference for things since he's "abnormal" in the Gem world haha. I honestly didn't feel like Amethyst was relating much, it really did feel like she was fed up. BUT because I like Amethyst, I'm choosing to believe your side instead of mine haha

I think Gems are expected to have the capability to use their powers right after being created (unless there's some reason to assume they can't like with Peridot,) but emotions could have something to do with it as well. Many things work differently for Steven since he's a hybrid, like how his emotions have a huge clear effect on his powers and how he can uncontrollably shapeshift (like when he turned really old) while full-Gems can only consciously shapeshift. Peridot's life on Homeworld was very restrictive and she believed it's impossible for her to have powers, but she is now in a much more nicer and free environment, which may have helped to activate her power. But the strong negative emotions could be related to it, too–back on Homeworld Peridot was a bit emotionless. Also, Amethyst throwing away her tablet was a bit mean, but I think she was sincerely relating to Peridot since they're both considered "defective" and got angry because Peridot refused to listen to her speech about being good enough the way she is.
