I can see your point, and there are paid bad actors online making people look worse, but if you use social media and engage with others, or read comments sections, overall it's less tolerant and using more simplistic words than ten years ago online. Of course it's not a study, but that's a red herring to deflect from the general direction there political class is.

The IQ measure is designed so that 100 is average, so an empirical measure like that can't capture changes in dumbness. It could be dumbness could be like wealth where it gets concentrated, more people got dumber and elite few got smarter.
