Clotheslines, Open Closets and New Hairstyles!

My latest side quest: creating a clothesline! 💨
During his hack week, Alex created a prototype for clotheslines in the game (feel free to check out the other hackweek projects!) He asked me to create a clothesline that could be resizable, with more sheets and towels appearing as it grows. We wanted it to be able to move with the wind and therefore there were some technical limitations: for one, you won’t be able to recolor it, but we will get back to this in the future to see if we can find a solution!

I would love to add more options in the future: a clothesline between poles, maybe some with clothes instead of towels? Let me know if you would like to have those in the game!
Between Paramaker and Build mode: using clothes as decor items 👕
One of my recent assignments was to create three open closets with visible clothes hanging on them. I had to rework existing outfits from the PAM to transform them into usable Build Mode items, optimise them and rework their textures!
So far, I created a neutral version of the clothes and a feminine, fancier one. In the future, I will be doing a fancier masculine one too. I’m creating more clutter to add in your closets: stacks of clothes, shoes, hats… Before launch, you will have a good variety of options for your Parafolks houses. 👔
In addition to the open closets, I also added two dressers, the second one was reworked from the video of the chalet.

New Hairstyles & Accessories 🪮
Time to look at Paramaker content!❤️ Those three Parafolks are going to help me showcase the content created by Sonia and I during the last weeks.

This coily ponytail is one of my favorite hairstyles I ever made! You can notice a new helix piercing with a little chain. You can also see the new necklace and lip piercing added by Sonia ✨
Everyone keeps asking for more hairstyle for longer hair, and Sonia delivered one, inspired by a famous children toy ❤️
This new short hairstyle created by Sonia could work wonders for someone in a Boys Band 🎵 This Parafolks wears a new necklace and mouth piercing, both designed by Sonia.
New Shoes! 👟
Sonia created three new pairs of shoes 👏 Do you recognise the first one? It’s already available as a clutter option in the Build Mode!
Three new options for sports shoes, inspired by the latest trends.

If you guys wanted to add laundry related gameplay I think that feature could also potentially make it easier as well. After collecting clothes from a washer, a para could carry a basket over to a clothesline and “place” the laundry on it (one preset item would just spawn on the clothesline each time the animation played). Might be nice if you think it’s worth having in the game, but ofc I already love what’s happening!

2024-09-06 20:43:07 +0000 UTCHi Léa, thanks for this week's update ! Are the clothes on the racks/closets recolorable ? If not individually, at least picking a general color scheme. My thing is, I tend to color-code characters in videogames ; so if I have a Para who always dresses in blue, the clothes hanging in their closet are never going to be pink, you know ? But of course... the rack needs to match the decoration of their home. Some games are very rigid about that sort of stuff (*cough* That Other Game™ 4 *cough*) and don't give much room for customization, so I'm hoping there's a compromise to be found there. I really like the clothesline, it's a great idea and I'm particularly fond of it because I suck at decorating the outside of a house with plants, while things related to human activities make more sense for me. It's particularly great how there's a fitted sheet included ! I really love that detail. It'd be also very cool to have clothes on a variant of that ; something that would include socks and/or baby clothing could fit smaller spaces, even, since at the moment the clothesline isn't really designed for tight spaces. I'd love one with bras that fits in an apartment bathroom ! We know the struggle of washing bras, amirite ladies ?

In the future we could use the inventory system that Jeremie developed so that we could put buy clothes and put them in the closet or in the clothes lines? It would be amazing! But, of course, it's something extra, so I'm not expecting it to the early access period. But can buy clothes and see them in your closet would be really, really fun.

Personally I like the towels and sheets more than clothes because they are better at billowing ;) but I'm just stoked that this may be a feature in game. And, the coily ponytail is also my favourite hairstyle so far! It's beautiful 😍

But the feature is also fine as it is now as a nice realistic touch.

It would also be neat if you could get a regular post/pillar that you could hang things from like the clothesline or a loud speaker. Doing laundry would be cool down the line (git it sgsgszs?? :D) but I love it as a decorative object too! Maybe some laundry stuff as deco would be amazing like a laundry bin. I'm so in love with the aesthetic so far! The boho furniture is beautiful and the general idea of clothes as a decorative object is amazing! I would love to see something like the clothes rack in maybe a possible clothes store, when more multiple outfits become available! I love the idea of my paras actually having to spend money on the clothes they wear, it adds a lot to the progression in gameplay in my opinion! Just an idea c: As always amazing work! I would be very happy if there could be more types of clotheslines at some point, for example one that can not only be placed between two walls, but also a clothesline that can be placed freely in the garden. More color choices would also be nice, but not necessarily necessary for me personally. Will it be possible to wash and hang laundry at some point during Early Access? Would it be possible to receive new gameplay videos at some point? Of course only if you're ready! Which hair did I particularly fall in love with? The long hair, it's so beautiful and I hope there are more hairstyles of this length. I have nothing to complain about or any wishes about the closets, they are just great, exactly as they are.

2024-09-06 15:09:28 +0000 UTCThat wicker furniture triggered my childhood memories of the creaky, ever-so-slightly wobbly wicker furniture I inherited from my big sister. I can hear this one creaking through the screen, the dry, whispy little future-flaky wobble-box. Well-made model, I gotta say. Good job on capturing the essence of wicker. Also, the carpet next to the wicker looks like one I could catch my toes on. Hopefully the owner of the bedroom is less clumsy than me. Love(!) the skull plant pot. Just casually skulling away on the shelf. Clothesline looks like it would be useful for industrial builds, when used in its shortest form - it could stand in for cables, especially if A) you allow it to connect to a pole, or B) you allow for walls to be made quite thin, as a stand-in for a square pillar. I can already see the home-made train tracks. It will be cute.

I would love a clothesline with clothes on them and the option to make these different colors so they can be layered in an alleyway. Will these be hangable from a second story or just at ground level? In the future, do you think fire escapes on the exterior walls would be possible? 2024-09-06 14:08:14 +0000 UTCNo, I had some restrictions on colors, you will be able to choose 2 colors: - the neutral version has the jeans and leather jacket unrecolorable, the tshirt and long sleeve have the same one but one is darker than the other - the feminine version has the dress and the jacket unrecolorable, and the cardigan and top share the same one, one darker than the other!

Will they blow more or less depending on how much wind there is that day (or is the wind the same every day?)? Personally I don't really care if I can recolour it but I am wondering where to put it if it can only go between walls for now. And it would be nice to have variations with lamps and be able to put birds nests on them and connect them to houses (showing they have electricity. It would make it so connected and realistic!
