Skills Progress Update + Sebastian Doing Push-ups + New Team Member!
Added 2022-10-21 13:46:30 +0000 UTCHello!
This week’s post is all about skills. What are skills? It’s anything that your Parafolks will be able to learn and eventually master. It could be cooking, painting or working out, to name just a few examples.
Before we get further into that, I’m very happy to announce that someone new has joined our team! Her name is Gabrielle and she will act as an assistant community manager. This means she will be interacting with you Patrons here as well as with followers on social media. She will be hanging out on Discord and she will also be collecting ideas from the community!
Here’s a message from her to you:
Hi everyone! I’m Gabrielle and I’m super excited to be joining the Paralives team as an assistant community manager! I grew up loving life sim games, from playing Animal Crossing on my old Nintendo DS to spending countless hours in the Sims universe and City Skylines. I’m already a big fan of Paralives and I can’t wait to share my love for this project with the community!
Welcome Gabrielle! 👋
🎯 Our Goals for the Skills in Paralives
To help us make decisions on how skills should work in Paralives, we have established various game design goals that I’m sharing with you today:
- Skills should make you feel like you are progressing. Skills are one of the core progression elements for your characters so it should be satisfying and motivating to level them up.
- Skills should make you feel powerful. As you progress in your skills, you should feel that your characters are getting more and more capable as well as feeling rewarded in different ways for your efforts.
- The skill system should have interesting effects on other parts of the game. Education, careers, relationships and more should all have an impact on and be impacted by your character’s skills.
- The skill system should have innovations. Our goal is to try different ideas to see which ones are going to make the skills aspect of the game really fun to play with.
With that being said, we are currently testing different new ideas for skills in Paralives. We are looking forward to sharing more about that once we have made progress and tests!
💪 Skill Level Impacting the Character Animations
Some interactions will have different animations based on your current skill level. I made a few GIFs to showcase that today.

Sebastian is struggling to do push-ups because his fitness skill is low.

Great! Doing push-ups seems much easier at a higher skill level.

Here, you can see Sebastian speaking on the phone while doing push-ups. We’re exploring the idea of being able to multitask, if your skill level can handle it!

Bonus GIF: I added a cheat to set your current skill level. This way, it’s easy for us to test the different animations that vary based on the skill level. I’m sure players will find a use for this cheat as well!
📊 Which Skills Would You Like to See in Paralives?
In the past we’ve held a community brainstorming about skills and you shared many many interesting ideas. Thank you again for that, it was super useful!
Today, I would be very curious to know more specifically which skills you would like to see included in Paralives when it first releases? Think of the most essential or the most interesting ones and please share them in the comment section below!
Take care!
Alex
Edit - February 2, 2023: This post is now public, feel free to share it!

If this game would come on nintendo switch too that would be a dream come true for so many people + paralives would be the only game like sims that would be available on switch so it would sell so good 😍 please can you make that happen? 🥹🥺

2024-06-26 11:22:06 +0000 UTCI would like to see other paras reacting to a top skilled character differently. The top skills should be very hard to achieve also.

2023-05-07 02:19:42 +0000 UTCAnd adding on to my other comment, having skills for multiple styles of dance, like ballet vs hip hop vs casual/social/party dancing?? And I’m that having dance lessons, dance teams, or gymnastics class, cheer teams, and maybe having skills within these too??

2023-02-12 03:49:10 +0000 UTCI would love to see different musical instruments and their skills! In other life simulation games, you really only get guitar, piano and violin. I’d love to see more! Flute, recorder, saxophone, ukulele, drums, for example! I’d also love to see bands, like school bands, and music lessons. Same goes for singing; singing lessons, choir, etc! And maybe having skills within these like rhythm, theory knowledge (like being able to read music vs playing by ear)

2023-02-12 03:47:13 +0000 UTCThis is great, I love to come back and see all of your progress. Skills are most definitely a very important part of any game and mostly why we play. We love imitating reality. For me: Sebastian answering his mobile whilst doing press-ups. Multitasking is one thing that I love in games and I love the animation of Sebastian’s cough as the "SetSkillLevel cooking 6" is typed in.

2023-02-10 08:11:32 +0000 UTCI don't think I can be any more excited than I already am. I am so looking forward to the day I get to hold this game in my digital hands and load it up for the first time.

2023-02-03 00:57:20 +0000 UTCPersonally, I'd like to see no limit to the skill levels, but for it to get harder and harder to get higher and higher. A bit like in the real world where you get better all the time but the more skilled you are the harder it is to get better. This will ensure that there is always someone more skilled than you, or that you can set world records. I would also like to see some skills linked together but not one skill to do everything. For example a high fitness skill alone should not allow to play basquette like a god, on the other hand a good fitness skill should allow to progress faster in basquette and a high basquette level should not be achievable without a good fitness skill. Climbing a basquette skill (or other sport) should also raise the fitness skill a bit, but not as fast as practicing fitness. One could also add a dexterity skill which would be essential to progress in some sports in addition to the fitness skill.

2023-02-02 18:48:13 +0000 UTC".... We’re exploring the idea of being able to multitask, if your skill level can handle it!" That will be interesting to see and be very rewarding for the players.

2022-12-22 03:37:20 +0000 UTCI have always wanted more when it comes to people skills. Charisma, Romance, Comedy...those just don't seem to capture the real skills you need for people-ing or properly represent how these things are in real life. A reworking of that altogether would be nice. Learning how to navigate the social world makes up so much of what humans do. I would like to see it represented better and have more meaning. Empathy, active listening, social cues, vocabulary, language, etc. I would love to see internal skills as well. Insight, critical thinking, self-knowledge, coping, problem-solving, innovation, etc.

2022-12-11 05:48:07 +0000 UTCI just came back to this post to read the suggestions and I love this! Maybe even have Paras have a natural ability for different skills - like a sim is naturally better at some sport but maybe not as much at writing, etc.

2022-12-09 18:07:39 +0000 UTCI would like to see cooking and maybe charisma skill
Martina Pia Carnevale
2022-12-01 01:05:30 +0000 UTCI would like to see inventor and social media skills. Also, amazing job on the game so far! I love it! Keep up the great work!!

2022-11-26 14:14:57 +0000 UTCAs a cooking student I would love to see some gif of cooking skill! thx
TheTronixX
2022-11-24 23:58:11 +0000 UTCYou should totally list those foods from other cultures. I only mention what I know, I’m not opposed to other cultures’ foods. Variety is the spice of life!!! Yeah, you right.

2022-11-13 18:55:30 +0000 UTCWhile I agree with this, I wish we’d all be more open to having dishes outside of just European and Asian inspired. There are so many other cultures that always get left out as if they don’t exist. As a cook, myself, I always wish they’d expand in these types of games and they never do.

2022-11-12 06:56:43 +0000 UTCI love the idea of making your own furniture!!

2022-11-11 04:14:43 +0000 UTCHi Gabrielle! Welcome! :) I would love to see a writing skill. It would also be fun to have a driving skill. Maybe you have to level it up to a certain amount before you can test for a license? I love the GIF of Sebastian talking on his phone while doing push ups. Now that's some serious fitness!
Hannah Moody-Goo
2022-11-11 04:13:47 +0000 UTCAre you able to have skills impact certain life events. Say your kid randomly trys to sneak out can a certain skill level affect the outcome/ reaction? I think it would be rewarding to raise a helpful kid and see him randomly do an act of kindness. Even the elderly can be more insightful to teach certain skills better maybe a teaching skill/ learning/listening type of skills

2022-11-04 15:40:37 +0000 UTCFlirting, kissing, physical encounters (whatever they may be called), communication are all things that could have skills related to them. Example: a characters first kiss is going to be awkward. The more they do it the better they get.

2022-11-04 15:11:58 +0000 UTCMain and Sub skill ex. Garedening: growing plants, learning about compost and rain barrels. Cooking: homecook meal; gourmet; baking, European and Asian pastries; fermentation; preserving smoking fish/ meat and pickling/ canning. Wellness: herbalism; patience; parenting; emotional control; fishing; foraging; bird watching/ identification; bee keeping. Creativity: singing; all dance; flower arranging; all instruments; acting; writing; knitting; painting; photography. Communication: charisma; comedy; storyteller; actor; pet trainer. Fitness: all sports; all dance; excercise; rock climbing; yoga; swimming. Dexterity: video gaming; all instruments; knitting; darts; bow hunting. Logic: astronamy; herbalism; foraging; research; archeology; electrician; biology. Handiness: mechanic; woodworking; reapir/restoration; grass mowing and wood chopping; electrician and plumber.
Vicarious Human
2022-11-04 01:35:05 +0000 UTCMain and Sub skills would be fun. Example of main skills. Gardening, Cooking, Wellness, Creativity, Communication, Fitness, Dexterity, Logic, Handiness.
Vicarious Human
2022-11-04 01:11:26 +0000 UTCI love the idea of being able to multi-task as you improve. This is what normally happens when I'm performing a task like weaving, crafting, or household chores. If I'm doing something physical I need to do something metal as well.
RavenShadow
2022-11-04 01:05:54 +0000 UTCI think mischeif should be allowed in this game, but not as a skill.
Vicarious Human
2022-11-04 01:03:15 +0000 UTCI'd like to see different kinds of skill for physical, creative, mentally and socially challenging activities, for example having different sports like football, basketball, pilates as well as different instruments like the violin, piano, guitar, saxophone and science stuff like chess, coding or a general science skill (for career purposes maybe even branching out into bio, physics, chemistry and math). For some creative outlet my suggestion would be things such as creative writing, painting and design. Apart from (in my opinion) crucial skills like cooking, fitness, charisma, comedy and gardening I think it would be important to have niche hobbies and skills for the Paras so that their personalities feel more unique.

2022-11-02 23:28:25 +0000 UTCWelcome, Gabrielle!! Looking forward to what you will bring to the Paralives team and game development. Players have provided so much great input and some of what I suggest I know may be repetitive, so please forgive. As far as gameplay action/style, I very much enjoy research, foraging, exploring, bow hunting, collecting, adventure, quests, lore, storytelling, i.e., my all time favorite sim game was Sims 3 'World Adventures' and I still play it. In addition, building from ground up, renovation, landscaping, interior decorating, and family activities indoor and outdoor. So, any skills that would contribute to any or all of the above gameplay would be awesome!! However, I feel confident whatever the Paralives team includes in gameplay will be just what we as players will need from the start or added as actual gameplay progresses.

2022-10-28 14:55:32 +0000 UTCWell said! I wholeheartedly agree with your praise of the Paralives team and so glad they not only allow but actively seek players input in game development as well as educate players all along the way. I too have provided support the minute I saw Alex's first Paralives video and will continue to support as long as able! Go, team Paralives!! 💞

2022-10-28 14:32:11 +0000 UTCI'd like to see some DIY- tinker skills. For example, repairing/fixing a car, building a pc, building a bike or skateboard, or building a boat. Then the para can sell it or keep it for themselves

2022-10-27 17:44:08 +0000 UTCWelcome in Gabrielle! 🤗🤗 Personally I am a musician and a gamer, so having a couple of (separated) instrument skills would be really fun for me - Guitar, Piano, Singing, Bass, Drums, Violin, Saxophone!! (I've always wanted a saxophone in the sims, lol). I feel like it would be cool though if skills were kind of "grouped" and have an impact on one another. For example, once a para has learned *an* instrument, it could be a little easier for them to learn others because they have that understanding of musical theory. Gardening could also be linked with health and cooking, as an understanding of plants could impact a para's understanding of flavours and how to live a healthy life. Having a high intellectual/logic skill could make it so books are read faster, and impact the speed at which they can learn other skills, etc. I also want to say that it's super important to me that early development (baby/toddler/child) is linked to skills the para's learn in the future. For example, I've always wanted even babies to have basic skills such as Movement & Language Development, increased in a variety of ways (tummy time, bouncers, floor time, face-to-face play with parents, flash cards, board books, etc) - that then transfer to toddler skills like social and motor skills, as well as emotional development - that then carry into childhood, etc etc. Excited to see more of this gameplay!

2022-10-26 23:52:56 +0000 UTCWelcome Gabrielle!!! I would love to see different art skills included. There's usually painting, but sculpting and jewelry making could be so cool. Writing is a little harder to show, but it could start out on like notebook paper and slowly evolve to computer typing, then eventually having a book for a Para to edit. I play FFXIV, and for desynthesis, you have a max allocation of X desynth points, so you can only perfect 3 desynth categories (mine are Goldsmith, Weaver, and Leatherworker) but if I start to desynth like.... armoury things, I'll lose points from one of the other 3 that I've maxed. I saw someone mention a studying skill, and i think it would be neat if you could add more "skill points" to use in general by studying be it like "studying music theory" or "beginner's guide to computer repair". I also love the idea of a skill tree. I know how to fix minor furniture issues and occasionally plumbing issues, but I will NOT try to repair ANYTHING related to electricity. Also I think it would be neat if like... you could "research" a skill before we set a Para off to do it or buy the equipment of it. Like if we have a system of "☹😐🙂" to let us know how much a para likes something, then that would let us know ahead of time how they'd feel about something.

2022-10-26 15:01:42 +0000 UTCI see you have a fitness skill, but I would love to see it split up in categories like: Aquatic sports / ball sports / Physical Endurance etc etc

2022-10-25 20:08:35 +0000 UTCA skill tree would be soooo fun!!!

2022-10-25 20:06:40 +0000 UTCThumbs up! Adding onto the fitness aspect, I think if a Para does a lot of cardio (dancing, walking, fitness classes) they should lose weight, gain little to no muscle, yet gain Endurance and possibly the perk of an increased lifespan at max level; A Para that does strength training will rapidly gain muscle, but slowly lose Body Flexibility; A Para that does yoga will not gain body muscle, but will be less likely to stress or dislike things they do, and increase their Body Flexibility and Physical Balance!

2022-10-25 20:05:08 +0000 UTCWelcome Gabrielle. I hope you have a great time as community manager. Personally, I would like a skills journal (surprise to all the discord users). :P i would like the skills to have a maxed point but then the option for new techniques, etc to be learned. i also love the old TS3 skills journal where there were achievements to obtain like get 34 different flowers, cook a perfect meal 10 times sort of idea. i really liked this as even once you had maxed out the skill, you still could carry on doing stuff to gain wee achievements. i would really like (in the future) for base game skills to be added to so like cooking would add new recipes and new techniques (even though the skill level will stay the same). ALSO... ditto everything Zahlea said about major and minor skills. if you ever go on to discord, ask to see her skills concept... it is a thing of beauty. <3

2022-10-25 19:53:28 +0000 UTCI'm loving everything, though I do want to just mention that SNEEZE though! If a Para has a high cleanliness skill and/or trait, they should sneeze into their elbow, or pull a hanky out of their pocket! Adding onto this, it's extra, but I always loved the idea of customizable buyable action items, like umbrellas/parasols, canes, backpacks... etc., so what about a buyable hanky that, when in a para's inventory, causes them to perform that wiping/sneezing into action? Just food for thought. Thanks for your great effort on this project!!!
Grouch
2022-10-25 19:50:22 +0000 UTCif i remember correctly, there is also a money cheat way back when we decided on paradimes as the currency... but not sure if that was confirmed as a cheat.

2022-10-25 19:38:32 +0000 UTCPet care! Like someone who doesn't have a pet and is new to pets not being able to tell exactly what a pet needs at a given time or struggling to teach them tricks, but someone with a high pet care skill (someone who has had a pet for awhile) going "ah yes I know that bark you're hungry" and having a really easy time teaching commands/tricks or having full on conversations with pets.

2022-10-25 15:07:10 +0000 UTCI read knitting as knifing and was questioning everything

2022-10-25 00:18:56 +0000 UTCPlease could we have cabinet making and upholstery? I'd love my para person to be able to make her own furniture! Also anything crafty; sewing, knitting, crochet, model making etc. I'd love my parafolks to be self sufficient, staying at home making things for others. Thank you!

2022-10-23 23:51:33 +0000 UTCThis all looks amazing! I feel like the animations have improved some as well. I have a question about skills, will interests/traits be involved all? Lets say a para loves art, but not so much fitness, would their art skill level faster then fitness? And would their mood maybe change based on what skill they're practicing? Like gaining a positive mood from doing art and a more negative one from fitness. I think that would be awesome to see! I know it would be hard to implement, so maybe not right at launch, but eventually I think it would add a lot into the personalities of the characters
Marley
2022-10-23 23:08:37 +0000 UTCI love the idea of personal inner life skills.
Khaya
2022-10-23 22:47:35 +0000 UTCI think these are important skills: Endurance, Physical Balance and Strength, Body Flexibility, Understanding other cultures, Leadership, Eye for Fashion, Innovative (think out of the box, create something from nothing), Good Listener, Storyteller, First Aid, Cyber hacking (which can be either good or bad), learn to speak several language, Speed Reading, Great Memory. Some random fun ones, Video gaming, Impersonations/impressions of others, Magic Tricks, Whistling, Shuffling Cards Like a Boss, Knife/hatchet throwing , Auto Mechanics, Rescue an Animal in distress, Building a fire, knife sharpening,Car Racing I hope character traits and skills will be integrated. Traits will affect skill progress. As an added challenge perhaps certain personalities would keep a para from maxing out skills (unless they work on changing it.) (lazy would make for slower progress, a mean para would have trouble with progressing the charisma skill, a creative para would be faster at creative skills a loner would struggle to improve social skills… ) And skill improvement could change personality. Taking care of animals or children will make a para less mean, a loner would become more social through social related skill improvement.
Khaya
2022-10-23 21:27:13 +0000 UTCI love the idea of skills branching off each other!
McKayla S.
2022-10-23 20:49:24 +0000 UTCIt would be nice if certain actions could help Improve more than one skill at a time. For example gardening would not only improve nature skill but could improve patience (need to wait for plants to grow)kindness, curiosity. Biking instead of only improving fitness can improve strength, endurance (which would then improve for other skills that need endurance. ) coordination (which could help to learn dancing faster or some other skill that would need that.) I think this will make the skills feel more organic. It could also give players a choice of activities for skill improvement instead of repeating the same action over and over (like Jenni mentioned with chess and logic - there can be so many other ways to improve logic - playing an instrument ,murder mystery party, family/friend puzzle board game night, sudoku or crossword puzzle, reading instructions and then building something, etc.)
Khaya
2022-10-23 20:48:36 +0000 UTCi think this is a great idea to have skills realistically influence other skills
Maxx
2022-10-23 20:35:06 +0000 UTCMaybe an empathy skill too
Maxx
2022-10-23 20:34:07 +0000 UTCA skill tree sounds really great! I would like it if the skill tree would be viewable in a menu item, maybe where the family tree can be viewed? I also like the idea of having main branches that are subdivided into smaller skills, e.g. music and therein piano, singing, violin, ...
Grace Prince
2022-10-23 13:56:26 +0000 UTCCooking, Baking, horse riding (since there will be horses), yoga, meditation, fitness, painting, writing, gardening, floral arrangements, taking care of plants (would be really Nice!), learing to drive, biking, dancing
Annika Koopman
2022-10-23 12:14:22 +0000 UTCI think as well as doing activities to level up skills, it might be fun to have some requirements/tasks to level up some skills - similar to in Sims 3 how you could only level up charisma if you had enough friends. I personally just think it helps break up the monotony of just waiting for your para to play enough chess to level up logic for example.
Jenni
2022-10-23 09:37:49 +0000 UTCI love the look of different animations to represent skill levels! It got me thinking, could there be negative-levels for skills? Like, even at a low fitness, he's still getting his whole body up. At 0 or even negative fitness, it would be so realistic to have a para only be able to push their chest off the floor rather than the whole body, or need to do kneeling pushups. I suppose I'm just a big fan of struggle in general haha. It would be fun to see a para with negative parenting skill just unable to get their kid to listen to them or discipline them in a way that works, and they'd need to attend a class or speak to their own parents for advice to raise their level. A para with negative cooking skill (say, from always being served and never taking opportunities to learn growing up) could set the kitchen on fire. I'm hoping to see zero or negative skills that make life hilariously difficult for my paras, so it's actually rewarding when they level up.

2022-10-23 05:11:59 +0000 UTCskill for space exploring and science, farming

2022-10-23 04:28:14 +0000 UTCWelcome to the Paralives team Gabrielle! I've been awaiting this game ever since it got announced! In terms of skills I'd like - Cooking - Photography - Gaming - Music - Comedy - Dancing - Swimming - Coding - Animal skills (I have a friend who loves animals and I'd love to have a good animal skill mechanic to recreate it) - Art, maybe specific subskills like painting, drawing, animation etc. Also I really like @S&M Gonzalez 's idea of wilderness survival, I definitely think that current life sim games lack a way of making someone have survival sense

2022-10-23 00:20:35 +0000 UTCWow this looks good know it’s a lot but I kinda would like the ability attempt to multitask with low skill, and ten have pers fail.

2022-10-22 22:32:39 +0000 UTCLying and patience are terrific skills !
ladyteruki
2022-10-22 20:47:40 +0000 UTCSebastian’s first push up looks like me lol. Having more basics skills (cooking, fitness, handiness etc) is definitely something I’m hoping to see- but some more “specific” ones that I think would be cool are Hobbies- Instruments/music Painting/drawing Creative baking Writing stories Possibly specific sports rather than just fitness Knitting “People skills”- Social skills (awareness etc) Confidence Charming Persuading Emotional control Child handling Random other skills I just thought of- “Animal skills” (like dog training etc) Meditating Humor Photography Reading Gaming These are a big scramble of ideas, but maybe they can help :) I trust whatever you guys decide to create. Also- welcome to the team Gabrielle!! Thanks for reading

2022-10-22 20:39:35 +0000 UTCI really like the thought of being able to choose skills within skills. For example music has tons of different instruments (including vocals), or there is composing! Sewing has quilting. knitting, needlework, etc. Even if it means fewer skills for me making them even more unique would have stronger impact, and make it easier to play multiple sims with the same general interests.
Lauren & Tish Fox
2022-10-22 20:31:35 +0000 UTCmajor skills and mini skills that branch from it, like "music" and piano, guitar, singing etc
Luna
2022-10-22 18:22:26 +0000 UTCSkills I’d like to see: Lying Flirting Kissing Charisma Empathy Charity Patience Gardening Dancing Stealth or sneakiness Cooking Baking Reading Writing Wilderness Survival Street smarts Masonry Handiness in repairing things Computer Drawing Painting Homesteading/ farming Mechanic for working on cars Sewing Crocheting and knitting Confidence Singing Skating Driving Fishing Hunting Journaling Social media I think it’d be nice if skills were broken down into sub categories too like you para can explore. Like dancing for example could be broke into ballroom, salsa, hip-hop, ballet etc. And those sub categories could allow you to be able to do certain actions as you level up vs if your skill is lower. I would also like to be able to buy things in order to do a skill too like buying a paint kit to draw and paint, or a journal to journal, tool set to repair items. Just like animal crossing requires you to have items in order to do actions same with making things in general. Id really like this. Versus it magically happening within thin air.
S&M Gonzalez
2022-10-22 17:44:31 +0000 UTCI would like to be able to have my para teach others a skill and also having paras watch others do something and they learn a skill that way by observation

2022-10-22 17:32:44 +0000 UTCI second third this! It would be helpful for making ‘established’ paras to fill up the world with
S&M Gonzalez
2022-10-22 17:31:28 +0000 UTCGardening, fishing, cooking, baking and other home making skills have always been my favourite in the cozy game genre. I think different skills for different social categories are also important and should reflect the personality and traits of the para

2022-10-22 14:45:01 +0000 UTCYeah it would!
Anna-Maria Kuru
2022-10-22 11:28:41 +0000 UTCThe essential skills for my first paras would probably be: communication, joking, parenting, cooking, baking, gardening, cyckling, swimming and weightlifting or fitness in general, singing, drawing or painting, acting, tinkering, gaming, charity, evilness, and animal handling.

2022-10-22 11:28:03 +0000 UTCRather than specific skills, I guess what I really want is the system to allow some skills capping. Cooking for yourself or having social interactions shouldn’t make your a master at cooking or social skill by the time you’re an elder 😭 I loved suggestions about innate skills/talents which could be random for each para (please have some cheats allowing us to set these as well) and the category/major skills with specific minor skills as for music / different instruments, singing, etc. It should also be pretty tough to improve some skills, cooking the same meal over and over shouldn’t contribute to it. Skills should influence a para's daily life, in some life sim games, you could go your whole (sim) life with barely any skill and that would be fine 😅

2022-10-22 11:26:58 +0000 UTCWelcome to the Parateam, Gabrielle ! Is this the first *official* cheat for Paralives ? In that it's the first one that's shown to us (AND the first one related to gameplay)... I think that it is, someone correct me, quick !!! (wouldn't it be fun if all the cheats had original names ?) Loving the idea of multitasking being (in part ?) connected to skill level. I feel that it's both a great incentive and true to life. That could also lead to some powerful combos if your Para is relatively skilled in both activities... As for skills, there's a lot of great suggestions already, some kind of niche and some very broad. The ones I hope for the most are the ones related to human interest and interactions : parenting is an obvious one (and compatible with a "parenting styles" system, too https://www.patreon.com/posts/33104058 ). I'd also love skills that are about the Para themself : a skill for loving yourself, for instance, would be fantastic (and in line with this suggestion about our Parafolks' inner life https://www.patreon.com/posts/71923475 ).

2022-10-22 10:06:05 +0000 UTCAs per the official roadmap ( https://paralives.notion.site/Owning-and-using-cars-and-bikes-86a50cc9a55447bd9ea2552d087a61f8 ), cars are supposed to be implemented during the Early Access, so yes ! And "parenting" was absolutely on my list !!!

2022-10-22 08:51:39 +0000 UTCSome that may not have been considered - Parenting skills, brewery (teas/wines) making skills, worldly skills such as topics or cultural foods, languages, dances or certain practices.

2022-10-22 07:56:35 +0000 UTCI think everyone has came up with some great ideas regarding skills so I just wanted to say this. For a small team Paralives is truly changing the way other companies will go about game design/ development in the future. For one, I know nothing about coding, 3D modeling, ect. However, I and many others love that we’re apart of the journey. Paralives is essentially a game created by the people for the people. We’re here every step of the way and I love that our voice matters. I appreciate how the team takes our ideas and implements what will work from a game design perspective. Other companies are taking notes that the community wants to be apart of that process because of what they are observing here. Now I can’t say for sure but I’m positive that is what’s happening. I’ve been supporting the game since the beginning and I will continue to support 💕✨

2022-10-22 07:56:07 +0000 UTCIt would be awesome to be able to set skill levels in Paramaker, for when you want to create a Para with a little bit of backstory 😊

2022-10-22 00:51:29 +0000 UTCIt'd be fun to have project bikes for kids and then they work their way up to project cars.

2022-10-22 00:47:04 +0000 UTCCreativity skills should be broken into seperate ones as a general rule. Same as playing a piano does not make me the master of banjo knowing how to make pottery doesn't mean I know how to gracefully paint it. It'd be nice to indicate a Para is creative in a general sense, but people experience creativity in different ways like a good videographer isn't always a good script writer. I agree that cooking/baking should similarly be broken into subskills and would like to add barbequing as a seperate discipline.
BonaparteBardithion .

2022-10-22 00:32:01 +0000 UTCI think 'attention span' or even something like 'hearing' could exist in a skill-like implementation but allow us to create paras that reflect real life more accurately.

2022-10-21 23:58:25 +0000 UTCI'd love to see skills deteriorate over time and the use of skill trees. But my vision for skill trees is lifelong, ex: motor skills developed in childhood could translate to a quicker time building fitness or art skills in adulthood. Maybe skill deterioration accelerates in old age? I'd really like to see a social skill, most notably applied to meeting strangers or making romantic advances. Being shy/outgoing could make it harder/easier to build this skill. Maybe interactions with paras of a similar skill level or personality have an easier time building relationships?
Aascot Bohlander
2022-10-21 23:53:26 +0000 UTCCooking and Creativity are my favorite types of skills to explore with an honorary mention for the sub skills of Baking, Painting and Pottery.

2022-10-21 23:29:34 +0000 UTCI think that it would be great if there could be a Socialization skill where the skill level really effects how paras act and communicate. So with a low skill level, they could talk really slowly and quietly, spend a somewhat long amount of time thinking about what to say, have a hard time approaching people, and fail to notice or understand social queues (I'm not sure if allistic people have that issue, though). Then it would be the opposite of all those for those with high skills. Maybe a para's skill level could be somewhere between high and low when they're a child so that they can easily communicate what they want and need. Then as they become more independent and talk to people less (because maybe they don't want or need to), they start to slowly lose their ability to communicate.

2022-10-21 23:04:45 +0000 UTCOne of the most fun and challenging skills in Sims 3 was Magic. Took forever, but paid off and was fun doing it.

2022-10-21 22:51:09 +0000 UTCI really love Skill Challenges from the Sims 3, so it would be cool if Paralives could have something similar.
DistantLoner
2022-10-21 22:34:27 +0000 UTCNegative skills would be cool. the world isnt just sunshine and rainbows and it would be cool to tell other stories that arent just the same.
Loftie F
2022-10-21 22:30:44 +0000 UTCMaybe a collecting skill could be cool. So if a character has found lot's a specific type of item in a specific area, maybe that place can sparkle from map view or something when there's more to collect. Then when it comes to things that you collect by purchasing (like books and antiques), they could instinctively know when there's a price drop or where to look for good deals as they gain experience.
DistantLoner
2022-10-21 22:26:13 +0000 UTCI'd love to see some skills that have more negative connotations cause they make for interesting gameplay. For example pickpocketing, lying, debating, mischief, etc. Another idea would be to have some skills that have, like, two sides of a coin. Like, building confidence could also build lying skill at the same time. Maybe that makes no sense lol, I'm just always interested in ways to make characters more flawed/human, and create ways to tell (morally) complicated stories.
Sehrys
2022-10-21 22:14:04 +0000 UTCThe thing I most want to see is for kids and teens to be able to build or unlock skills at school. So it's not just this completely standalone thing where getting straight As doesn't do anything for their adult life.
Megan Santucci
2022-10-21 22:13:26 +0000 UTCi think one way to do it would be that if your parafolk maxes a skill but then doesn't use it for a while, they automatically go back down a level. so you're gonna have to keep practicing/using a skill to stay at the max level.
Sehrys
2022-10-21 22:01:13 +0000 UTCOther people have probably said the same thing, but I think cooking, swimming, strength, running, art, reading, various instruments, and social would be good to include. And maybe a para's personality might influence how quickly a skill improves? Like, a loner or a supremely awkward para might build the social skill a lot more slowly than a social butterfly, because it's not a skill they enjoy working on.
Elsa
2022-10-21 21:48:01 +0000 UTCAs I’ve said before I’d really love a mindfulness skill! It could be increased through meditation, reading, exploring nature and stuff like that! I think mindfulness is an important aspect of our modern, busy lives and key to happines and mental health. The higher the paras mindfulness skill, the easier it could be to overcome bad moods, deal with inter-para-personal issues and stay focused while working, crafting and cooking or acquiring other skills

2022-10-21 20:54:31 +0000 UTCGardening, Swimming . Skills that we could possibly have competition with other paras in the world, singing, dancing, gaming, cooking, baking, cake decorating, fitness, sports, writing, painting, sculpting, skateboarding. I also like the idea of overtime the paras gaining weight due to unhealthy eating habits and not working out just like in real life

2022-10-21 20:13:14 +0000 UTCHey Gabrielle! Welcome! Right off the bat to the team, thank you so much for implementing autocomplete in the cheats window. This is absolutely something I needed. Would love to see a pdf come out on release with all the cheats available to players and what they do. Now for skills I agree with a lot of people that the basics that we usually see in life sim games should be implemented (athletics, cooking, social, ect), but there's some other ones I wanted to see or revamp: Creativity - in a lot of life sim games I see an art skill, but it usually pertains to just painting, which not every artist is keen to that medium as well as it doesn't seem to perfectly describe what that skill actually does. I would love to see a skill for a para's creativity level which may determine how quickly they take to certain mediums of art and maybe even the quality of that art piece. I would also love to see this skill somehow connected to a logic/critical thinking skill as these 2 skills in real life usually go hand-in-hand. Spirituality - This is one that's kind of out there, but could be a lot of fun and is quite important to a lot of people. I don't think structured religions should be introduced into the game, at least not yet, but the idea of people believing in the supernatural and in pseduosciences such as astrology could actually add quite a bit to the game. Ex. For a para that has a relatively good skill in this and has studied astrology they could have the ability to ask another para their sign and if they're compatible they increase their relationship with that para and if they're not compatible the relationship decreases. They could also possibly learn some unknown traits about another para using this method. Another example and this is taking from the sims; I kind of hated how everyone can see and talk to ghost characters and the grim reaper, even though in real life (we're going with the idea that everyone believes ghosts are real) not many people have had such an experience. It would be cool to have this skill for that purpose so that when you got to lets say level 8/10 you could see the ghosts, but you couldn't talk to them, but then when you got to level 10/10 you could see AND talk to them. This could also be used for a ghost hunter or fortune teller career, as well as be expanded on in the future if there is DLC based on supernatural paras.

2022-10-21 19:24:10 +0000 UTCYou could have a reading skills, especially for kids. It allows you to read books faster and get more enjoyment from them. If you are going skill books or researching then a higher reading skills could allow them to have better comprehension at an accelerated rate.

2022-10-21 19:21:44 +0000 UTCI really like the idea of having a generalized skill set, like Creative or Athletic, but that branches out into more specific skills like Guitar and Piano for Creative and Weightlifting and Stamina for Athletic. So while building each skill under a certain category, the general skill raises as well and makes it easier/quicker to learn all skills in that category. For example, while playing guitar you raise the guitar skill as well as the Creative skill, and the higher your Creative skill the easier it is to learn any Creative skill.
Ashleigh Cunningham
2022-10-21 19:08:51 +0000 UTCLol "I played the piano so I can perfectly paint the Mona lisa" I agree and like the idea of having skills be broken down into more specific areas too. I think it should be fairly difficult to increase skills too, like you shouldn't be able to master a skill early on in a para's life. Mastering skills could maybe only be reached as an elder or something like that
Caley C
2022-10-21 19:04:56 +0000 UTCOn this whole idea of singing and even the different animations, a couple smaller ideas I thought about was that the skill could "improved" with age like how most kids usually don't sing in-tune and through age they gain more control over their voice. Maybe as they age and if they sing more as a child, that's another way they practice that skill. Another idea I had was the idea of learning different songs. The Sims 3 had this, but I really wish they had expanded on it. When your sim was just learning a song they would mess up and be a little out of tune at first, but once they had learned the song, they could sing it better. There could be different songs that the para sings, maybe based on preference and/or skill level and possibly some songs would require a certain skill level in order to sing it perfectly.

2022-10-21 19:00:51 +0000 UTCHi, Gabrielle! 👋 I think that the skill system should be kinda similar like it was in Sims 3 (variety of skills, skill challenges and similar skill compatibility like learn martial arts and a little bit of athletic at the same time) but the skills should be more balanced (no overpowered skills) and nothing like “I played a lot of football, now I’m a master at basketball” or “I studied a lot of astronomy, now I’m a master at chess and chemistry” or even the good old “I played a lot of piano, now I can perfectly paint Mona Lisa”. And if there ends up being many skills they can be categorised something like physical, mental, technical, creative skills etc. for better cross-compatibility but not like the aforementioned things (let’s say if you are good at 1-2 physical skills or have a boosting trait, you can learn skills in the same category much faster).

2022-10-21 18:04:13 +0000 UTCI think it would be interesting to have a set of basic skills, that each have a skill tree attached to, that goes to more and more specific skills. Like Creativity > music > piano > classical (jazz, ragtime, etc).
Akasha O'Connell
2022-10-21 18:01:52 +0000 UTCA lying skill would be cool especially if you combined it with a charm skill. You could potentially make your para a con artist or they could influence/manipulate other paras into doing or giving them stuff
Jazz
2022-10-21 17:35:01 +0000 UTCSomeone already mentioned this, but i’d love to have innate/natural skills that paras are born with. It would be even cooler if some of these skills were hidden and paras discovered them as they grew older or they try new activities. For example, a para could be born with innate musical skills that they discover as a toddler playing with toy instruments and then real instruments as they get older. It would be interesting if all paras had some degree of innate skills with some not having any at all. It would also be interesting if paras still had to put in some effort to get innate skills to a master level or something.

2022-10-21 17:07:55 +0000 UTCWelcome Gabrielle! I think a skill that could be add can be a liar skill maybe. It can open up to a new kind of game. For exemple, better you are at lying, better you can be a villain, rob banks, be a bad character. It could be interesting because in real life there is bad people... If someone wants to experiment a bad character and see how his life will be as a villain. Also, maybe a spirituality skill. Be able to talk with the dead ones, tarots, reading tea cups, etc. All of this could be something nice, never seen in other games. Becoming a medium character could be nice

2022-10-21 16:48:59 +0000 UTCIt'd be cool to have an organization skill, depending on the para's level, they'd be able to stick to their routine. Just a thought...

2022-10-21 16:03:55 +0000 UTCGardening should definitely be base game, and maybe a foraging/wilderness survival skill. That would allow players to create a self-sufficient Para or a historical setting. If illness or injury are in base game a basic first aid skill would be good. And if animals are in base game it'd be cool to have a pet handling skill. Level 1 could be correct lifting and petting the right way, level 2-3 could be taking a dog for a walk without getting dragged, higher levels could include gently subduing an aggressive pet and medicating without a fight.

2022-10-21 15:39:40 +0000 UTC-I would like excercise to be affected both by your para's skills and fitness/muscles. Fitness determines how long they can go for and how well they're able to perform tough excersice, whereas skill determines how advanced techniques they use and how efficient they are. -Skill categories would be cool: for example culinary skills include cooking, baking and mixology. You need to master all three to become a true masterchef which unlocks a secret recipe or something. Mastering one skill in a category helps improving the rest in that category. There could also be visual art (painting, drawing, sculting), music (piano, guitar, drums), technology (gaming, programming, electronics) and many more. -Children can learn lower levels of skills at school -Public lots help with skillbuilding: visiting museums for inspiration improves art skills and gyms help with fitness etc.

2022-10-21 15:38:52 +0000 UTCthis might be a bit niche, but I think it'd be interesting to have a reading skill. Like, young Paras would of course learn the basics of reading, but even as adults some books could be deemed too difficult for the average Para, like how it is in real life. This could make reading more interesting as a Para's hobby, and maybe affect the writing skill as well. You can't be a good writer if you don't read! Again, this might be too complicated and niche, but I think it's something at least worth thinking about. I've always found reading so boring in other games.

2022-10-21 15:23:52 +0000 UTCThat’s true; in the Sims 3 it was considered a “special skill” because it was housed with the skills but didn’t have “levels.” It did, however, have challenges to complete, which gave it a similar dimension of “progression” that I appreciated.

2022-10-21 15:12:52 +0000 UTCThis is amazing guys!! It looks so good already! A few skills that I'd like to see from the get go would be swimming and maybe a skill that lets you identify the different kinds of plants? The higher the skill level is, the faster you'll be able to identify plants and identify more challenging ones, and maybe there's some you can't identify until your at max level! So excited for Paralives!! <3

2022-10-21 15:09:50 +0000 UTCI'm not sure 'collecting' makes sense as a skill per se, though you could have collections based on different skills, like fish for fishing, and various plants for gardening.

2022-10-21 14:53:20 +0000 UTCIt is possible to improve singing ability, but I think it should be a skilled gained more through lessons and focused practice than general use.
BonaparteBardithion .
2022-10-21 14:52:31 +0000 UTCIt might be easier to break the technical skills into multiple and, if possible, have related skills be easier to learn if one is already known. Like computer repair and tv installation have some overlap and could be lumped into Electronics but that's not going to help with plumbing or mechanical.
BonaparteBardithion .
2022-10-21 14:50:18 +0000 UTCPlease let adult paras teach skills to their children. Like gardening, sewing etc. I'd love if a grandparent para can teach things like fishing to a younger para too. So there's lots of real life interaction.

2022-10-21 14:45:54 +0000 UTCI like this, but I think the decay should either be very slow or it should stop once they reach the bottom of the current level. Also, would the decay still occur if the Para isn't being played? As a rotational player I don't really want a feature that loses progress when I focus on another character.
BonaparteBardithion .
2022-10-21 14:43:16 +0000 UTCHi Team! Some thoughts. A lot of people are diving into really niche subskills. There's theoretically no limit to how many of these niche subskills there are, which makes coding that logically challenging. This is why you need to abstract and keep going "up a level" to the broadest categories of skills to be called MAJOR SKILLS. -Body -Logic -Creativity -Dexterity/Mechanical -Social etc.! These major skills are your para's CORE COMPETENCY and would be required for jobs. You would starting learning these in school and in activities. Throughout your lifetime! These would be VERY SLOW to build up. But that's not all! In addition, each would have subskills related to them. Jobs would require major skills but also subskills highly relevant to that career. Core skills could go from levels 1 to 10 as they are broad. Subskills might go from 1 to 5 but have more detail and unlocked actions when you reach each level. Think of subskills being created of specific hobbies, interactions, and objects that you as developers create in the game. Added a pottery wheel? Ceramics subskill! (Related to creativity) Increasing your MAJOR SKILL might unlock the capacity to expand a subskill in a 2 to 1 ratio. Level 6 in major skill means you can reach level 3 in a related subskill. Something to think about!

2022-10-21 14:43:06 +0000 UTCHow, if at all, will the game distinguish between a skill and a state? For example there is skill involved in performing fitness exercises, but it also brings about a state of fitness. If a para doesn't exercise for a long time, will they retain their skill but lose fitness (ie they can't manage as many reps) or will the skill decline (ie they revert to an animation from a lower skill level) or neither?

2022-10-21 14:42:56 +0000 UTCYes plesse! I miss collecting like in sims 3. Even fossils and artifacts or something. Finding Jewellery to keep, sell retirn to other paras.

2022-10-21 14:39:32 +0000 UTCI think it would be interesting to have unlockable skills within a skill. Like painting. Acrylic paint is usually the first type someone learns how to paint with, but after that one is mastered, they could move onto oil or watercolor painting. It would also be interesting if a character could use multiple subset skills, such as charcoal (drawing) and oil paints (painting) to create a multimedia artwork that might be worth more than if only a single media had been used. Of course, this same thing would work for sports. Just because someone is a bodybuilder, doesn’t mean they know how to play basketball. And someone who can play floor hockey can’t necessarily play ice hockey, but someone with both ice skating and floor hockey experience would have an easier time grasping ice hockey as a sport. I’m sure this would be hard to implement, so no pressure, but I think it’s important to note that athletics and sports as well as drawing vs painting are different enough where your skills for one can be better than the other. Actually, it would be really interesting if someone can master sports as a concept but completely suck at playing them if their athletic skill is super low.

2022-10-21 14:36:09 +0000 UTCThats a very real thing though! Singing is interesting like that, cause just singing all the time doesnt necessarily make you better. Perhaps singing could be just a general action any para can do, but not everyones naturally good at it, could be a randomised thing if theyre able to sing in tune or not. And then perhaps the skill level can only be worked on with specific song focused actions, maybe singing classes or lessons from someone with a better skill than you or they could even "watch paratube" and sing along to work on their skill with tutorials or something. That way, any para CAN sing (whether its in tune or not) while doing chores or in the shower and such, but without any skill improvements. Lots of possibilities with that one i think!

2022-10-21 14:31:55 +0000 UTCPersonally, I'd love for Daydreaming to be a skill, even if just a hidden one. Would also like to see Meditating and Journaling (maybe those are more the activities and the actual skill would be Mindfulness?). Other skills: Cleaning, Cooking, Crafting, Dancing, Exercising, Gaming, Gardening, Hacking, Painting, Parenting, Photography, Playing (an instrument), Singing, Socializing, Studying, Swimming, Writing, and, for no reason at all... stuff like Pickpocketing (paras) or Swiping (objects).

2022-10-21 14:28:58 +0000 UTCYes not everyone can sing but I like Charlotte's idea of natural abilities. It was always annoying with Sims being able to max out and be pros at any skill and in real life you just can't be good at everything. I would love to see some option some way where maybe you can cap skills and the paras cannot learn anymore and some skills that they have a talent for they can learn pretty quickly.

2022-10-21 14:27:39 +0000 UTCWelcome to the team, Gabrielle! Also Yes, Multitasking! I love how smooth the animations already are. A romance skill and social skill would be nice. I would like to see dancing but also divided into different subcategories like Standard, Ballett, HipHop, Contemporary, Jazz, Break Dance etc. a Music skill divided in subcategories: Singing, (you should be able to hear how they improve), piano, violin, drums, acoustic, electric and bass guitar. Music producing, composing and song writing (writing in general) should be a part of it too.

2022-10-21 14:23:28 +0000 UTCI would love to see a collecting skill! I’m not sure if Paralives is planned to be an open world game, but being able to pick up gems and rocks/catch insects in different locations around town is always a nice touch for me in a life simulator. They are also nice for decorative purposes. In The Sims 3, I enjoyed that your success catching insects and the amount of gem cuts you unlocked increased the more you collected.

2022-10-21 14:21:59 +0000 UTCI would love to see gardening and some animal related skills like animal behaviourism, so it would be easier to make a friendly relationship with an animal

2022-10-21 14:21:16 +0000 UTCCleaning skill. I love the thought of paras being able to spend less time on housework and maintenence as they progress on game. Crafting/sewing/knitting - if a para could like sew/knit for their children or for gifts that would be amazing. Or knit scarfs/hats or sew baby outfits or something. Or craft a child's school play outfit.

2022-10-21 14:20:52 +0000 UTCIf I think about real life, it could e.g. be endurance. At a low level, the para would always be looking for a place to sit down for a while. It would affect everything, how quickly he gets tired in different activities. I like RPG type skill system, e.g. Fallout4: you need x level of stamina, luck, strength, etc. to unlock various other skills/rewards.

2022-10-21 14:16:45 +0000 UTCThat's true :) There's a cute iPhone game called Chef Wars where you select a combination of ingredients and your skill level determines what dish you're able to create. I'd love to see something like this implemented in paralives, very excited to see how they approach food and cooking.

2022-10-21 14:15:12 +0000 UTCWow! These push-ups look great! I can see Sebastian shaking on the lower level. So realistic! I'd really like to see skills affect jobs and professions - jobs that a Para is able to apply for, job performance, even aspects of a certain job, eg if a Para is fit but has poor social skills and he's a policeman, it might affect two parts of his job - he might be very good at the chasing criminals aspect, but very poor at dealing with teenager misdemeanors. I'm not sure how you would implement that, but it would add depth if you have to consider multiple skills for careers rather than just one. For first release, I'd like to see the household skills (cleaning and cooking etc) and the person skills (social and parenting, and perhaps animal skills). These seem to me to be the most essential skills. I'd also like to see skill aptitude differences between Paras. That could be tied in with personality or inherited or random, so that not all Paras will or even can be good at everything. This would help to make Paras different.

2022-10-21 14:14:58 +0000 UTCA writeup of a skills concept I made, that I'm very fond of and hoping a lot for... I'd love to have more complex skills. Some people on the Discord server and I talked a long while back about skills and we came up with the concept of Major and Minor skills. In summary, it would work like this: 🔧 Major skills work as a group or category of related Minor skills. E.g. The Major skill Music would have Minor skills for Piano, Singing, Guitar, etc. 🔧 Major skills could be seen as the skills from The Sims (except you can't train major skills on their own), where the Minor skills are specialisations, allowing for more skills without it getting to hard to understand (hopefully). 🔧 When a Minor skill is increased, its Major skill gets increased as well. 🔧 The speed of increasing a Minor skill is modified by its Major skill. This means that if a para practices the Piano a lot, they get a small skill training speed bonus when learning the guitar, to emulate that some knowledge of one instrument (e.g. reading sheet music or recognising notes) can transfer to another related skill. 🔧 Paras can have an Interest (⭐) or Passion (🔥) for a skill which makes them learn the skill faster and/or gives them more joy from doing it. Alternately this could be a Talent and a Passion. There could also be the corresponding negative modifiers for giving maluses to skills. 🔧 Paras with a skill can teach any other para with a lower skill. If they have an interest or passion in the skill they're teaching, they can also pass along that interest. 🔧 There could also be an element of having to try new things to increase the skill. Say a para only ever makes sandwiches to eat, in the beginning it would increase their skill, but after a while it would no longer give any skill increase so it would be impossible to max out a skill doing only one activity. (This is actually very similar to how skills work in World of Warcraft, for instance, which uses colours to show how much an activity increases the skill: from grey which means the activity doesn't increase the skill at all, to green which is the normal increase, to yellow and then red which give more increase, but also have a higher chance of failure.)

2022-10-21 14:14:35 +0000 UTCWhat I most want for skills is: * No degradation * Skills being able to be related * Multiple skills working together to create something By being related, I mean that skills that share some set of abilities, can help each other. For example: if a para is really good at the piano, they have probably practiced their musical ear, reading sheet music, and a host of other abilities, that would help them when learning singing or the guitar. For multiple skills working together, I mean like having a Writing skill for how good the para is at writing, and then having say a Comedy skill for writing fun books, or a Logic skill for writing a mystery book. So a para with a maxed Writing skill but a low Logic skill would still write only a mediocre mystery book.

2022-10-21 14:11:07 +0000 UTCI like the idea other people have mentioned of a social skill! also of course cooking, fitness (maybe not always tied to losing weight but gaining muscle if strength training and fat loss if cardio?), visual art (could encompass painting/drawing/digital), gardening, gaming (maybe?), and programming (or similar? code or computer building?).
Victoria Garcia
2022-10-21 14:09:00 +0000 UTCA skill tree would be nice (e.g. Yoga under Athletics, Guitar under Music), and the branches I'd like a lot are about: 1) Crafts - Sewing, Crocheting, Knitting, that sort of stuff :) It would be awesome to just have skills in which characters can produce things and use them - crochet a decorative doily, knit a sweater, carve a flute. 2) Gardening - would love the idea of having ornamental gardening, orchards, and veggie gardens :D

2022-10-21 14:07:54 +0000 UTCWelcome Gabrielle!! It's so cool to see more gameplay mechanics in the weekly updates! Skills are cornerstones of any RPG and I can't wait to see all the skill options we are gonna have for our paras. Also, did I see autocomplete suggestions in the cheats menu? That is so useful! I won't have to memorize all the different cheats, nor how to spell them. Love that!

2022-10-21 14:06:32 +0000 UTCI get the generał idea, but I think its more optimal if the stop leveling up after cooking the same dish a lot of Times, but do when theyre cooking something new. After all the Best way of learning to Cook is cooking

2022-10-21 14:06:21 +0000 UTCIt would be cool if you don't practice a skill for a while it goes down just a little bit, so your para would need to refresh themselves on it a bit

2022-10-21 14:04:12 +0000 UTCSkill set upon release, huh? At the top of my mind are cooking, cleaning, fitness, electronics, music, drawing, gardening. Maybe some social skills like talking, listening, etc.

2022-10-21 14:03:18 +0000 UTCI love sewing IRL and I would find it great to make things like clothes, pillows, curtains, costumes, etc. Of course knitting or crocheting are on my mind as well. I hope skill continue to have challenges while you level them.

2022-10-21 14:03:05 +0000 UTCMaybe it would be cool to have a skill that is called studying and the higher this skill is the faster you can gain other skills. It could maybe be a lesson in school (Maybe some Paras learn sth quicker and others don't - that would also be fun)

2022-10-21 13:57:48 +0000 UTCBefore I suggest skills, here's something I would like to see for the skills system - I would really like if my parafolk could continue mastering their skill even after achieving last level. I would like a skill to go beyond maximum level. Like challegnges or other stuff to unlock. As for the skills - Cooking (but in more depth), cleaning, social skill, technic skill (so fixing, but please, make it more deep - so leveling up on fixing toilet doesn't mean my parafolk can fix TV). Then driving skill for cars, riding skills for horses and for bikes. Astrology related skill. Fitness skill. Art related skills. These would be probably basic skills I would love to see for base game. Gardening would be also great.

2022-10-21 13:57:11 +0000 UTCI would love to see some kind of general social skill that affects how your para interacts with others, how easily they make and keep friends, how often they embarrass themselves, etc

2022-10-21 13:57:09 +0000 UTCI’ve been following you since 2019 (feels like it’s been since the Dawn of time) and I always knew you had something special so I jumped to support when I saw tha you opened up Patreon. I know we can’t say for sure that the Sims team’s inspiration for their next gen features came from Paralives, but I’m sure without a doubt they are quivering in their boots for the release of Paralives. There has never been real competition in the life simulation game and I’m just so, so happy for you guys that the game has grown so much, the team has been so awesome, and Paralives has a complete identity of its own. You guys are doing everything right that big game company are doing wrong and I truly believe the whole simulation gaming world realizes that.

2022-10-21 13:56:42 +0000 UTCWhen I play the Sims it bothers me that my sims are usually at max cooking by the time they're an elder, because its necessary to cook every day, their skill inevitably builds. In parafolks, I'd love to see the cooking skill build only buy reading recipes/watching cooking channels and practising new recipes, rather than cooking the same meal over and over again.
Charlotte Stevens
2022-10-21 13:56:18 +0000 UTCI'd like individual instruments to have different skills, I think? just because you can play the piano doesn't mean you can play the violin. but if you really want to keep it simplistic a plain music skill is ok. my biggest problem with a social/charisma skill is if you play a character for a long life span they just naturally became skillful in charisma just from normally talking with people which I hate if I don't want to increase that stat/want to keep my character socially inept. if there is a charisma/social skill, it should only go up from very certain actions like: entertain guests, perform in front of an audience, give a speech, do stand up comedy, etc. but honestly I am also happy with being charismatic being just a selected trait.

2022-10-21 13:54:30 +0000 UTCI personally really enjoy cooking both in games and irl, so I'd love to see some attention given to different techniques and recipes from all over the world. Maybe something about how kids who grew up eating mac n cheese have an easier time cooking that as a beginner recipe compared to someone who grew up eating fried rice or sausage with sauerkraut.

2022-10-21 13:54:27 +0000 UTCSinging is a funny one - no matter how much I sing in real life I do not level up haha. It would be great to see parafolk have natural abilities though.

2022-10-21 13:53:20 +0000 UTCI'd love to see singing, it's often omitted, but I know more people who sing than who actually play any instrument. And I feel it's a very versatile skill as everyone sings, not only musicians. You can sing in the shower, while cleaning or cooking, singing Christmas carols or other holiday songs, and that's only everyday aspect of that skill. Then you have a whole famous singer potential
