Lt Dike was decorated for 2 actions in earlier battles. After WWII he served in the CIA & later Korea, then finished a law degree, had a family & moved permanently to Switzerland. However, the men of Easy are almost unanimous about his lack of leadership & "disappearance" after his transfer from HQ to Easy. It was speculated he had his own "breaking point" from the experience & also felt detached from the coherent Easy and resulted in their experience of him in that period.

2023-10-25 02:18:12 +0000 UTCThe author of the book was not in Easy Company, he’s a historian with a number of military and Presidential books (and was 8 years old as of D-Day). Lipton being the narrator makes sense from a storytelling perspective here in order for the show to convey a lot of unspoken thoughts the men may have had. And Dike was not killed, I’ve read other comments on reactions saying he may have been shot during the assault on Foy hence how he froze up as he was a decorated officer but the show is done from Easy’s perspective and recollection and most of what I’ve read/seen would indicate the men never got along with him.
