2024-03-12 02:47:46 +0000 UTCDidn’t have as much difficulty as you guys tracking schematics/plot/character in this and it seems to really work for all the folks that I know who have seen it. It’s weird how much I agree with Michael in that the ending really felt quite final to me. As stoked as I would be to return to Dune, thematically/plot wise I’m really not feeling an “Empire” kind of cliffhanger in this one. The “lead them to paradise” is haunting because we know what is going to happen. I’m sure we’ll get part 3 cause money but I feel like the arcs of all the main characters are complete/satisfying to me. Additionally, while I get the impetus of what Alex was saying about wanting more “dots” to connect things, I genuinely think that leaving things up to viewer interpretation by using symbols and visuals (e.g. Paul’s signet ring) is more compelling, powerful, and ultimately leads to a more timeless/rewatchable movie Loved this one and love that Denis trusts his audience to be patient and figure things out. *70mm imax is the way to watch it; y’all should catch it at the citywalk IMAX before it leaves theaters.
