Script feedback

Hello,

Below is a script for my next video which is a bit longer than normal so I wanted to see if anyone had any feedback before I animate and publish it. I'll probably change some of the syntax when I record the voiceover to make it all flow better, so what I'm most interested in is if there are any parts that seem unclear or confusing?

Healthcare, rights, and other people’s labour

Anytime someone says “healthcare shoul...

Quick Update

I'm working on putting all the parts of the "not a deer" episode together, it's taking a bit longer than normal as I left all the connective tissue out for the short versions, so I'm only adding it in now. Should have that done and published by Wednesday.

I really enjoyed doing the three parts of this one that went into a bit more detail on a specific topic (simulacrum, conquest of bread, poverty and musical chairs). I was thinking about doing some more "animated essay" type things on t...

A couple of new merch designs.

Mainly dropping this here because I posted them on Instagram and I have the Patreon link in my bio, if you're a patron you're already doing enough to support me, but if you want one anyway here's the link: https://theforestjar.com/shop/

Simulacrum

This is inspired by Baudrillard's discussion of a short story by Borges at the start of Simulacra and Simulation. It's actually going to be the last answer to the "are humans negative?" question, and I have Quetzalcoatl ready to give a take on it that will lead in to the next part of the episode.

Not a deer: part 2

Thank you all for your feedback on the poll earlier, with that weight off my shoulders I managed to get this part finished! It doesn't tie back into the main story yet because I have one more answer to this question I'm going to try and do something a bit different with, that will be the next part.

Early access question

I'm starting to think that part of the reason I'm struggling to work at the same pace I was previously is that I don't have that instant reward of posting something publicly straight away and getting all the feedback and stuff that involves. This is not something I like about myself and I wish I could force myself to be more patient but I am struggling, so the question of this poll is do you care very much about getting the videos earlier than everyone else, or are you subscribed here to supp...

Not A Deer: Part 1

The short break I intended to take over Christmas turned into a bit of a longer one, I was struggling to write, I think mainly because I had got out of the rhythm of doing it. I apologise.

This is the first part of the next episode which as you can probably guess from Not a Deer's speech is going to cover negativity, self-ownership, "culture of poverty", and money. I'm going to post an edited version of this one to other platforms straight away as I've left such a long gap between new c...

A Cryptid's Carol Part 2 - Is our past ugly?

Are the title cards distracting, should I skip the taglines and stick with just the names? I think I could have some fun with them, but each clip is so short I'm worried about them distracting people from what's being said.

Year 1

In the end I just bulked up the recap and published it as it's own video, there's some extra clips, and a bit with King Kong and Godzilla at the end but it's mostly the video I already published here.

The Forest Jar: Year 1

I decided to do a very quick recap as I'm switching things up a bit and I want something to point people who are lost to. It ended up being not that quick and so I'm probably going to add the answers to the question she poses at the end, tease the next villain (Patreon exclusive, it's Scrooge) and then publish it as it's own episode.

I could also add more to the recap, so if there's any individual answers from the past that stick in your mind let me know and I might put them in. Also le...

A new plan

I’m going to slightly change up my publishing schedule as follows:

  • Create widescreen videos for each question and publish them on Patreon. Patron’s get early access and the chance to tell me if something makes no sense or if the pace is off and the music is too loud.

  • When I have completed an episode (like the godzilla missing arc I just finished) I will publish the whole thing to YouTube.

  • I then publish the parts of the episode to all the other ...

Questions Answered

I feel very weird writing so much about myself, I hope it's not too boring and if it is I split it up into sections so you can easily skip bits. If I didn't answer your question specifically it's because I thought it was covered in a different answer, if it wasn't I apologize, ask again and I'll get it next time I do this.

What’s your background?

I grew up in the South-East of England but I’m going to skip the first 18 years and go straight to the fact...

Any Questions?

A bunch of people ask me questions in the comments of my videos but I don't normally answer them unless they're very simple because I need time to get my thoughts together and I hate trying to write long responses on my phone in the tiny box Instagram gives you.

I'm going to write up a post covering a lot of the common questions, but now I'm struggling to remember what the common questions are, if you have any you'd like to see answered post them in the comments here!

What is justice - some notes

The answers on my latest video were more based on specific philosophers and ideas than normal, so I thought I'd do a kind of notes/bibliography thing here..

Bunyin - This is based on Peter Singer’s “Famine, Affluence, and Morality”, I gave it to be Bunyin purely because Singer is Australian and so far being Australian is Bunyin’s defining character trait.

Robot - Again inspired by Peter Singer, this time his idea of “speciesism”. ...

Work in progress.

This character was suggested at least a couple of times when I asked who I should add.

The app I use is toonsquid. I started drawing/animating this year and it's the only one I've used so I can't say whether it's better than the alternatives, but I like it a lot.

The full series in order.

Adding this here so I can pin it, I have the patreon link in my various social media bios and I want an easy way to direct people to the full thing.

Bonus points if they're non-humanoid and have a lore that lends itself to interesting perspectives.

Welcome

Hello and welcome to my Patreon. I'm starting it for two reasons.

1. I'm basically making this animation series full-time and I'd like to continue doing that, but at some point I'm going to have to stop and get a real job unless I start making some money off of it.

2. I like interacting with people who are enjoying the story I'm telling, but I'm a bit scared of comment sections as I'm easily sucked into pointless arguments, and I have a bad habit of taking negative comment...
