I’ve really enjoyed listening to you all discuss TD: Night Country as you have all alluded to the many feelings I’ve had watching it. This season of TD reminds me of Roger Ebert’ review of Gus Van Sants’ remake of Psycho, which was an interesting exercise in remaking a classic [almost] shot for shot. At the end of the review Roger makes the following comment after having rewatched Hitchcock’ psycho then comparing the two movies: “I was reminded of the child prodigy who was summoned to perform for a famous pianist. The child climbed onto the piano stool and played something by Chopin with great speed and accuracy. The great musician then patted the child on the head and said, "You can play the notes. Someday, you may be able to play the music." That’s how I feel about TD: Night Country. It’s playing the notes, not the music.
