Absolutely. I still love the LA, especially since that was my first contact with this story at all -- but parts of it do leave one sighing/facepalming.

2023-03-26 01:41:30 +0000 UTCThey should've stuck closer with the LN, from what I'm hearing. Sounds like it was better paced. Wenyi's little arc was pretty forced, in comparison. As well as Yifan's. The show writers try too hard when the source material sounds like it's solid and doesn't need extra embellishments.

2023-03-25 22:45:40 +0000 UTCAs for the Challenger League here, the LA also departs from the source in that they're apparently playing "training matches" against pro-League teams, instead of just battling other Challengers, as one would expect. Not quite sure the reason for this change, since I watched most of this just once, a long time back. We'll find out ποΈ

And as for QYF's constant worrying, I also think it's as you said -- that he's insecure about his new position as Vice-Captain. Doesn't feel he's up to it, given his history, etc. I think the show went a bit overboard with it all, but drama, yeah?

2023-03-25 21:27:18 +0000 UTCOn the other hand, when we first meet AWY, he is unusually rational, even cold, if you like. Ye Xiu discovered him in-game, while hunting for hidden-gem Clerics as he dungeoned under Tyranny (in disguise). Because that is the Guild with the most Clerics -- since Zhang Xinjie is their God. (The other Clubs are also like that -- Blue Rain has the most Blade Masters, Tiny Herb has the most Witches, etc.) When YX finally decided to approach AWY, he initially handed off this task to Chen Guo. So, the interview between AWY and QYF in this episode, is vaguely similar to the one AWY had with Guo Guo, where he asked her for all sorts of compensation, as soon as he realized she was trying to recruit him, and called her incompetent when she fumbled some of his questions. However, AWY was *not* a fraud at all or malicious. He wasn't terribly skilled, he had average mechanics, not much better than Luo Ji -- both sides knew all this. The only reason YX thought him valuable, was because of AWY's excellent timing with Heals. Potential that only a God like YX could've seen. Which explains why other bigger Clubs hadn't already snatched him up, since the scouts are normal players. As for his defects, YX felt that his mechanics would improve with some training, enough to make him become truly valuable. So there was a bit of initial friction between the team and AWY, due to his personality, but it wasn't a big deal at all. He was hard-working, and ready to prove himself and earn his place. And he did soften up (some) eventually.

2023-03-25 21:09:49 +0000 UTCAh, I'm afraid I can't give you much more insight into An Wenyi's and Qiao Yifan's behaviours, than you already concluded. Most of this QYF-vs-AWY story arc you watched in these 2 episodes are entirely products of the LA, though based off bits of the original characters and their stories. All I can do is explain the source of these arcs, and maybe it'll clear things up for you. In the LN, QYF Is indeed shy/insecure, a result of both his personality and his poor performance at Tiny Herb, scorned by most of his teammates. However, it was never to this degree, especially after he made his decision and joined Team Happy. He wasn't really Vice-Captain (nobody had this role yet), so YX would never have left him alone the burden of devising their strategies in the first place, especially knowing how inexperienced he is (the rookies all are), and given what's at stake. Instead, his journey in the LN was a quiet one, more about mastering his new character, the Phantom Demon, fully exploring his potential to amplify team effort. This does mean he gained a decent head for tactics, along the way, more than any of the other rookies.
