Cinema4D 2024 RBD part1 (VIDEO TUTORIAL)

Hey hey!

Very excited for Cinema4D's new realease!
Great new features in simulation area and I decided to do few videos (before breaking down "Anti") regarding some key aspects of rigid body simulations.

RBDs -while easy to use- have always been kinda unstable and in this first part I am gonna show you how to tackle some of the technical part behind them and debug the sims so they behave as you wish.

I am gonna follow up with a case study showing a practical example in depth.

Overall very excited honestly haha, last few versions of c4d tend to surprise me in a positive manner :) For a full breakdown on C4d 2024 new features be sure to check RocketLasso in youtube!

Let me know what you think in the comments below!
Cheers,
T.

If i understand correct, you want the cloth to hit the "grains"? you need to move your plane from the edges up and down yes.

Hey Thanos, that's not exactly the subject here but I'm trying to achieve an animation close to what you do at 22:40 of your video except my objects bouncing up and down on the plane. I've tried to play with the cloth tag a lot but my elements settle down and it doesn't really work. Also keyframes on the stretchiness but it's not super clean... Thank you :)

Lauren

Glad to hear that mate :)

This tut could not have been more perfectly timed, I'm right in the middle of a very large rigid body sim project and was havign problems with objects jittering and popping, decided to bite the bullet and move it to 2024 and follow your finding on the parameters. I learned so much from this, very much appreciated.

Plugins are not yet ready for this version. Every major version they need recompile. Eg. from 2023 to 2024 need new plugins. From 2024.0 to 2024.3 no need. Other than that copying my custom layout immediately worked. Unless u come from a version before r25 u should be fine. In general besides playing around is not advised to use new c4d immediately upon release :)

So sick! These updates are getting better and better. Did you experience a hiccup when updating versions? When I tried to install 2024 it didn’t bring over my plugins, content browser data, or my custom layout(s). Any idea what I might be doing wrong?

Thank you for confirming and reporting! This is a great release even with this bug!

Hoi

thanks I am reporting to maxon. I just tested here too, is not working.

Thanos Kagkalos

here is an example scene showing the old bullet system and the RBS system with a cloner and a random effector with scale noise: https://f.io/GzbiA87-

Hoi

thats great to hear. I use RS on mac so i know how it feels to be stable vs windows. Probably they fixed the vram flooding bug? i ll see what i can find, great to hear that though

Thanos Kagkalos

Maybe it’s just the stability is back - but all the crash inducing issues I was having seem to have disappeared. I was pushing a scene the other day mixing heavy displacement, volumes and densely layered texturing and changing things on the fly with the IPR active - but without multiple crashes.

ty bud!!

Thanos Kagkalos

Nice one bro!

Mikhail

mm i didnt try this but i read a note in the manual about a limit deformations (not psr). Do you have an example scene? thanks

Thanos Kagkalos

what? how? when haha. What is fixed? thats great news. Can u elaborate? thanks

Thanos Kagkalos

Thank you for the breakdown as always, one thing I noticed is that cloner with a random scale and noise animation, the rigid body shapes don't follow the scale and only inherit the initial rigid body shapes.

Hoi

I'm just happy they've fixed Redshift!

Ben H

this thing with thumbnails is SO..... frustrating.
