Complex flowers part5 (VIDEO TUTORIAL)

Let's explore how to control dynamics with precision via keyframes. This approach is for s26 Cinema4D, kind of "old way" of doing things, but not everyone is on the latest version. So this can come in handy in many cases plus is a good intro to 2023 new animation dynamic controls.

Let me know what you think!
Cheers

No stupid question at all! Bend is the worst c4d deformer haha i just play around with it till something sticks. And yes, if you uncheck this "within box" or something (not on my pc at the moment) it bends both ways. I say first find the bend direction you need and then play with the options there to understand how they work and i think what you are describing is there too. Sorry cant be more descriptive as im offline!!

Thanos Kagkalos

Unfortunately this is a probably a very stupid question (again) but is there a way to use the bend in c4d symetrically - in other words, like the bend function in Rhino were you can allocate your axis to the object (say through it's middle) and then choose to bend only one side or have the bend effect both sides of the object symetrically from the centre... does what I am saying make sense? I don't find much of anything about it in cinema searching online, perhaps with your extensive knowledge of c4d you've come across a way? btw, thank you soo much for this beautiful series, it's amazing!

mid day stair climber hahaha i keep that, cheers bud! I think every little technique is useful as many times something works and something does not.

Thanos Kagkalos

Finished watching this (you’re my mid day stair climber entertainment btw) and I think it’s pretty cool how you take the time to reverse engineer to make things work in both 26/2023. While practically if it’s available in 2023 I’m just going to take the more efficient path especially now most if not all the plugins I use are working in 2023 but still the practice and theory behind it and understanding to get a functional method in both is pretty awesome so I appreciate you taking the time to break that down for us. 🀘

Oh yea that is also a case where scale applies. Makes sense since you use a lot of ready libraries and you would want to quickly import objects at the correct scale in relation with all other objects in the scene. In motion and vfx while the relevant scale ofc applies between objects, but the overall scale is arbitrary.

Thanos Kagkalos

thanks for clearing that Thanos, coming from an architecture background where everything is measured :-)

steve de vriendt

Thanks buddy! No there is no real scale in cg, thats a theory that doesnt work for me and a lot of vfx artists I discussed this over the years. Only thing real scale would be of use is if you emulate a very specific camera lens and dof matches from the get go etc. Other than that, simulations work way better in meters, produce less errors, same as renders. That is why there is multipliers in sss, or all these settings in simulation tools. Eg. in Houdini, a macro drop shot is 1-2 meters. In c4d for the same reason, there is the "scene scale" parameter in cloth/rbd. Also renders if u do a landscape do it in 100-300 meters. Going into Km will produce errors in GI and shadows (ray epsilon in octane). The best thing is to have the default cube object as a guide. Base your geo around it. That is also if you create eg. an explosia or a tfd container is 1x1 meter or 2x2. Everything seems to work best this way and from there u just tweak settings to get what you want.

Thanos Kagkalos

hey Thanos, hope you had a nice birthday!! just a question in general.Do you bother with making stuff in real world scale?like these flower petals you are using a default 400cm plane. Is it better to work on bigger scale in C4d?

steve de vriendt

thanks a lot my friend

Thanos Kagkalos

Thank you for an amazing 3 years of tips and tutorials! Looking forward to many more!

Hoi

very handy in so many situations! cheers

Thanos Kagkalos

Purtyyyy cool man, range mapping the vertex map never ever knew about that one!

Spenser Clark

thank you! Yes I prefer to spend days on finding the best possible way for something rather than do it quickly and not know what the limitations are in a real project! Stay tuned!

Thanos Kagkalos

You know what, that's exactly why your patreon is amazing, your RnD pin point the new features and so you taught us the way to get the most out of these!

Benjamin Rouyer

cheers bud

Thanos Kagkalos

I say go direct to 2023, u ll understand why on next tut hehe cheers

Thanos Kagkalos

ok i have to switch to R26 :), tx for this!

Benjamin Rouyer

Noiiice!
