Can't wait to get in to it! Thanks a tonne!

im doing now some very basic fundamental course for how i use octane i think it will help a lot everyone here

Great tips about displacement modes. Yes, even I feel that more insight in to Octane workflow from materials setup and Rendering workflow would be super helpful. I have been using RS for a few years and after watching your tutorials for couple of months have fallen in love with Octane he he. But I don't find enough material online about Octane rendering workflow, noise reduction workflow, some industry standard insight about network rendering, etc. Definitely would love more of Octane juice he he! Cheers to the hard work you put in every tutorial man!

Sure thing!

Fantastic tutorial. A lot of simple but really useful information. Would love more octane related videos like this!

James Clark

I will of course! thanks alot

Thanos Kagkalos

that was super amazing please make some more octane related stuff please do share your render settings and rendering workflow in the future thanks

Yes the cost difference is huge! In order to use RS on a workstation and then add 3 slaves per year you need 960*3=2880 euros for each c4d/rs license + 3 deadline licenses (not sure 2 are free and u need 1 on top?) There might be a solution with team render but again there is no price for RS nodes so u d still have to pay the full RS license as a node. For same setup u can pay like idk 400 in octane. Network rendering doesnt need c4d, in fact needs no software at all besides the slave utility. I have a great relationship with Ahmet and Jules as well so I am not objective in that regard as I also help in suggesting requests and features. And yes I get the same feeling of not being 100% corporate.

I am starting my own studio as well! So I'll be able to define my own pipeline as well! Not going to lie... what you mentioned about network rendering and slaves went over my head...haha.. But I really want to use Octane. Beyond the "bonuses" of having Octane... I want to use it because I feel like Jules and the gang over at Otoy are putting these tools in peoples hands at an affordable price. I truly feel like they are "for the people" if you will. Octane allows me to jump in and create. Without worrying about if I'll be able to get a good look out of it... but when it comes to building out scenes... I'm running out of VRAM sooooo fast... However, I feel like RS is cleaner, less noisy, and for lack of a better term.... I feel like I can dream more in RS because of how it handles VRAM... which are in turn the problems I have in Octane. Thanks for the insight and always taking the time to dive into these topics! Really appreciate it!

Well there are pros and cons in every engine. But, you definitely need to stick to one. There is no point jumping around unless you are a dedicated lighting artist. If I were to pick one at this specific moment is Redshift. Not cause I like it more, but cause it is industry standard right now. This can change though and I predict that octane in the next 2 years will balance this out as it has caught up in features and stability. Right now the only advantage of RS over Octane imo is the fast fog. That being said every engine has little tricks that the other one that doesnt have and then that is a matter of personal pref. To why I am in octane: Back in 2016-17 i picked that for artistic reasons (best ipr in industry, best sss alongside arnold, best quality out of the box, unbiased that doesnt flicker or needs any technical knowledge to get 100% out of it) and cause I ran my own studio, i defined my own pipeline. Octane is much easier to integrate into small studios cause of network rendering. All u need is some very cheap licenses and every machine with 0 setup almost can be a slave. On the other hand RS has no network rendering, and its cost to use deadline + rs licenses/c4d is many times higher. Right now I think i am paying 500 euros for 2 plugins in all software + infinite number of slaves (+ bonuses like World Creator/GSG+ subscription/ Kitbash every month etc) In the end you need to pick one and don't switch if something doesn't work. Find your way around it. There is no perfect engine, is how we work around the limitations :) I hope it makes sense!

Always wanted to know.... why do you choose Octane over Redshift? I keep going back and forth and I want to stick to one. Especially for the time being!

Jerel Northern

oh many thanks i keep forgetting about this color change, or something didnt work for me last time i tried it. As to ur question there are few ways to do that, I d probably do it on shader level with nested dielectrics and priorities.

Thanos Kagkalos

I would love more shader tutorials. Im still puzzled how to do air bubbles inside of specular, for example honey type of material. Is it boole thing or it is possible to do it in shader. Also little tip, you dont have to click color box to view HSV, you can change in octane setting>settings>other>color gui type>cinema4d native.

Thanks Brandon. Likewise since 2020 versions its been rock solid with studio drivers. May I ask what did u find helpful in this one? I am skeptical many times about my octane tutorials as I find em a bit simple. Cheers!

Thanos Kagkalos

This was really helpful, thanks a ton! Octane has been extremely stable for me for quite a while now. Two years ago when I first started using it, It would crash all the time.
