Hey man this is an old one haha. As u see in the tut, its all about what glass refracts, what is behind it. Add roughness, make sure u got a lot of bounces and thats all. Are u using octane? if yes enable fake shadows, increase transmission to 1. Now, glasses are a pain in the ass.. not gonna lie :) needs careful positioning of objects lights around them.

I'm trying to recreate the look you have and it's not looking great. Just wondering if it's only a simple spec material with roughness or did you add fake shadows or something? It seems like I'm missing something with the glass material and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

2023-03-15 20:29:56 +0000 UTCMmm depends. CDs (creative directors) gather references that have a style/styles and sometimes brand colors can be very specific. As an AD my job is to find everything though, from color to design. References are there for inspiration. How to interpret them and bring a frame to life is what I do. In the very first stage of the projects, there is rarely any real guidance. We experiment and see, so yes, everything is my doing usually but always keeping in mind guidelines from client and have a feel about what they need.

2022-02-19 19:47:45 +0000 UTCYes in everything, i ve done all sorts of projects since 2017 with almost next to no issues. I am sure its not octane but something in ur system/setups. Octane is super stable 1 year now fyi. It was crashy before, but I think most of the times user errors or known issues. I was using vray for more than 10 years I didnt get less crashes. U need to know what crashes each renderer and avoid it. Example: if u add vertex displacements on a mesh with triangles its gonna crash or be unstable, if u mess with osl it will be unstable and in general lack of optimisation makes everything unstable. Or if u keep everything procedural no reason, ur scene is gonna be prone to many issues. I work 10-15 hours straight without crashing with the newest versions while i throw millions of particles at it and press play while on LV. Sorry to hear ur experience is different!
