Autumn is here :)
Along with it our new XP training. Its the longest tut i ve done so far its 44 minutes, sorry for that, but lots of stuff to explain.

Enjoy it!

Xp swirls partA (VIDEO TUTORIAL)

Comments

Ah my reply didnt get through I think. I was saying that this is an old tut and im unsure since xp have changed many versions since then. I d say check the project files to see if they behave correctly. I can remember that displacer was like a post effect here and was working after the fact. Again for certainty check project files to see how this is setup! cheers

Thanos Kagkalos

Hello Thanos, I am learning a lot from you thank you!! I am trying to recreate this. it is going well but when I try to use the displacer it won't cache, it only caches the displacer and ignores the XP modifiers. any idea why?

Farid Yared

thanks bud, all these go without saying I guess :) still though I can break nexus very easy hehe. I do not intend to use nexus for fluids

Thanos Kagkalos

Hi Thanos, If I may: Just a quick note for those working with Nexus now. If you want to use Nexus fluids, be sure to use the NxPush effector instead of the regular push-apart effector. For collisions, you use a box with collider tag. If you use regular Push apart, particles will go trough Geo. And just for good housekeeping, use NX modifiers for gravity, turbulence and rotate as well. :-)

Chronox

hehe that is true! What bugs u experiencing this time? I report whatever I find in general. Now im on a scene with Nexus back and forth for a while till they figure out whats the issue

Thanos Kagkalos

Man, it's a pleasure watching your tutorials, awesome explanation! About the bugs in XP, did you report them at the time? I'm having the same frustrations, even today there are many faults in their system. It's a lot of fun to play with XP, but the bugs are killing me sometimes :-D

Chronox

thanks bud :) always trying to help if possible. Sometimes tutorials are super old so i dont even remember whats going on haha but i ll try to update some of these with newer xp/c4d versions as i feel we can start pushing some of the setups way further

Thanos Kagkalos

Just wanna say that it's really dope to see such fresh recent replies as I'm also working through some of the older tutorials. Appreciate you being so active Thanos!

Cole Dorais

Hey buddy. Mmm defo u shouldnt have big gaps. Xparticles are not meant for this kind of sims, so what i do here works under very specific circumstances. I will rebuild this scene at some point in the future as i will use the nexus versions, but for the moment i ll say download the project files and see if the issue is still there. Sorry for this but again, xp are not for liquids or anything else vfx oriented. I just push them from time to time to create very specific effects, so anything over that probably wont work.

Thanos Kagkalos

Hey Thanos! Thanks for this great tutorial! I'm running in to an issue which I haven't been able to solve on my own and I feel like I'm missing something super simple here. When I'm running the sim, I get quite big gaps between tthe particles in almost a "banding" kind of way, so when I go to render and add geo to the particles I don't get that solid liquid surface look, but a lot of "holes" everywhere. I've changed the voxels, radius, turbulence but I just can't get it to look like your example. Maybe it's just a matter of adjusting the settings but would love to know if you or anyone else have any idea what I might be doing wrong hehe. Cheers mate!

Oscar Cravalli

This was a bit tricky to follow, especially the last part with those different sizes masking/killing the intersecting particles...I may need to go back to this one again later and re-watch it... mhhh...

Andrea

yea it is. Thing with Flip is that uses voxels. So when voxels are high, cannot understand geo proper. FluidFX on the other hand works instantly with an xpcollider, give it a spin.

Thanos Kagkalos

Is it possible to get the XPFuidFlip solver to work with a collision tag on an object? I've tried it and the particles keep passing through the GEO.

Shannon Wilkerson

So cool

Shannon Wilkerson

Your tutorials are great but I am really only subscribing for the jokes. Keep it up and thank you!

Lucas Flores

Hey man, sorry probably i missed this message lol. By using instant range node with display color, u can control the material in octane

Thanos Kagkalos

Heya! Yes well, its a lot of things if u are new in xp, and its things i been showing in older tutorials as well. Doing my best to repeat everytime but im sure im missing steps. Also it gets tiring for all followers to show basic things over and over, so im just going to the new stuff hehe. Unfortunate for new users! To ur question though: u shouldnt use generator. Just bake the sim, follow what i do in the tutorial. And use octane tag, add any geo u want. No doesnt match, i think it matches when its 1cm or 10cm. So u eyeball it ;)

Thanos Kagkalos

Hi, Thanos, thank you for the great insight! I'm quite new to XP and running in to some trouble when rendering with Octane. I've tried caching the whole sim with Xp generators and spheres for geo, but when I play back the cached sim, it looses the displacer modifier and doesn't have the up down motion. So then I removed the cache, and tried attaching octane tags to the emitters and enabling particle rendering, added sphere geometry to them but in the IPR window the sphere sizes don't follow the XP size that I have dedicated, I reduced the size of these spheres from their own object menu ( is that always the case? octane object tag doesn't automatically follow XP sizes?) Hope to hear from, as mentioned I'm quite new haha. Thank you again!

rishab

Hi . How do you use octane render to render project file a_ xpflip_ Simple.c4d material, how to control swirls in octane material node, looking forward to your reply. Thank you.

Arhkam

Heya, u use xp display color and output it into whatever channel u want.

Thanos Kagkalos

love this thanos! just one question: how do I render if I want to keep the shader info? I use redshift.

s_b

Thanks! In the end there are still stuff that dont work as expected but overall thats the basic technique

Thanos Kagkalos

Wow, this one was...super killer. I love the effect, and how easy it is to make it your own vs. just copying the original end result 🙌

seanem1467

Mm i cannot check that but settings seem fine. Is it fixed?

Thanos Kagkalos

So, the videos keeps saying "due to privacy settings, the video cant be played here". Is anyone else having this issue?

Luis Miranda

Its a bit complex tut, try to follow very precise step by step and u ll get to the bottom of this :)

Thanos Kagkalos

For some reason, can't for the life of me get either the two group method, or two emitter method to interact with one another. Seems like there is something wrong with the particle radius on my end :\

semifiction

Cool!

Certy

I can think of a few super cool applications for this technique, great stuff per usual, I had no idea about the displacement as a XP deformer either.. great to know!

Spenser Clark

Hello, I own xp since 2017 i think where i started using c4d. It was only 1 pay option back then. Are still perpetual licences available? If so, its the best way i think, u dont even have to update if u dont need new features. How much is the sub cost?

Thanos Kagkalos

Thanks buddy!!

Thanos Kagkalos

Just a quick question.. How do you guys pay for X-Particles? Is it better to go with a subscription or rather buy it (with some kind of black Friday deal)? I have previously used a monthly subscription which I could cancel at anytime, but it is a bit pricey. Sorry to go off subject. Thanks!!

James Shannon

Nice!!!!!

老身技不如人

Thank you!

Thanos Kagkalos

Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.

Reda Izo

Thanks a lot buddy!

Thanos Kagkalos

Thats was great!

Mikhail

Thanks! Bit confusing i jump around a lot in this tut, hopefully u find it easy to watch! I had to do lots of rnd and see what works and what doesnt besides the basic setup.

Thanos Kagkalos

Yesssss been so stoked for this one to come out 🔥 Thank you!
