I recommend checking out the two official MV's for FoF (on your own or reacting, whichever you prefer^^): -The Ending theme MV for Fangs of Fortune. You said it very well, the way this story explores love and the sadness that comes with it, and the things people do for those whom they love - the good and the bad. I love it so much. Also, this has one of the best found families AND polycules I've seen, such a compelling story and well visually it was just 35 episode feast. Found so many new blorbos from this, so now I'm gonna head back to ao3 after drying my tears (once again).

The ending even changed every few episodes, so you had the guest stars also dancing and even more locations. Might be one of my favourites ever even if it sometimes was a hard change if you got a cliffhanger or sad scene right before. But it kind of helped to put you back into a better headspace. And congrats to surviving! FoF is quite a ride, but I really love that bittersweet ending.

Ep 27-31: Yes they used 知己 zhiji here, multiple times actually. First in episode 27 after yuanyi had seen Ying Long's illusions, Ying Long said this to them "Having a friend who truly knows you, you'll have no regrets in life." (iQIYI's translation). And now again in ep29 Zhao Yuanzhou used zhiji when he said "Having a soulmate, makes this life worth it." (iQIYI again), and this time it got translated to soulmate (yes it's the same word The Untamed, Word of Honor, and Mysterious Lotus Casebook use, for example). Can't say if there's something more than that to the context. Also Bingyi and Ying Long have my entire heart, what a beautifully tragic pair they were, tho Zhuo Yichen and Zhao Yuanzhou do try. Ying Lei...kudos for holding up so well, I was an absolute wreck after the first time I saw it. And it doesn't get easier. Such a wonderful mountain god, he brought so much joy to this story <3

I've been binge watching my way through this and having a blast. I'm only about half-way through and have no idea if this has already been pointed out, but did you realize that for the most part they're singing their own theme songs? I think there are a few 'professional singer' version, but a lot of the songs on the soundtrack are recorded by the actors. I just love that extra touch.

BTW....any GW2 players in this group? The Wilderness area sky with the floating fragments reminds me of the Bloodstone areas in GW2. It was such a vibe when I watched this series a 2nd time, that I had to go back and play on those maps :D

ep 26-28: Brittany at the end of 26: this is the gayest episode. Ep 27: Hold my beer. (Brings out the ancient tragic gays and let's the gayzing commence). Yeah, the ZhuoYan ship is sailing in these eps, it's taking off. And we also get some beautiful sapphic snippets as a treat. ♥ I know it's frustrating for Brit, but I like that the show was like: If we can't have gay kisses, we wont have straight kisses either. The acting scene is even more fun watching it in the know :D Poor Pei Sijing was struggling so hard :DDD And poor Zhuo Yichen was so earnest and true ♥ he absolutely deserves some apology Zhu Yan, if you know what I mean ;D

The way I understand it, is that the prime minister used the betrayal of the mountain god to get to his position, but people are complex, so he regretted it or turned around again in his views, in any case he did anything in his power to help the DHB and treasured the book that he shared with the one he betrayed, maybe knowing he can never be forgiven and trying to make the best of what he gained through it? But yeah, who knows for real.

Someone(s) (smarter than me) needs to help me with the Prime Minister stuff in this story. He ultimately died in ep20, I think. He was our groups only early supporter (and connection in court) early on. But he also betrayed that Dragon God/Demon when he was younger? Isnt' that same guy? It was never explained....but did he regret that? That book of rites...it mentioned he took care of it as if it was special?

Episode 23 - 25: soon you will see my favourite episode, very soon... we really should give Lin Zi Ye (Bai Jiu) an award, bc he is so goon in his acting for an actual 13 year old! also, not so fun, fact: Tian Jia Rui (Zhuo Yichen) is actually really afraid of water, so that he had to film so many scenes in it was really hard for him! Especially the fountain scene where his head is underwater and everything! I am proud of him tho that he went through with it! also to the theory i mentioned in an earlier comment: i think part of the "straight" explanation for why Zhu Yan only petted Zhuo Yichen head even in full red moon berserker mode is that he recognized him as a descendant of Bingyi more on that later tho ;)

Brittany, since you haven't watched "My Journey to You", which was directed by the same director, and had a lot of overlapping actors, want to give you a bit background of Ep 12 & 13, the actors played Qing Gen bird and Fei the plague were also couple in "MJTY". They had great chemistry in there, and were brought to play a couple in FOF together again.

Episodes 20 to 22: You know, Bai Jiu's mom being a tree was not on my bucket list either when i first watched this xD This show also will make you have paranoia till the end with Ao Yins shapeshift powers and Li Lun being able to posses people... there are still many things to be revealed, and i cannot wait for it lol but also my favourite arc/episoded are not that far away anymore!

The moment of Wen Xiao and Pei Sijing sharing that bun in the prison was so full of love??? Like if the other parts of the polycule are a complete mess at the moment, the girls at least know where they stand with each other and are secure in their love for each other<3 And the way Zhao Yuanzhou sees Li Lun and Yichen overlapping? In the same place where once Li Lun and Zhu Yan themselves swore to protect the wilderness and repaired the tree. Which is also the very same place the first Baize Goddess and Cheng Huang swore a very similar vow. At this point that stone is such a symbol for love the people touching it share and also their dedication for protecting the wilderness. Curious thing then, that it is Zhuo Yichen Zhao Yuanzhou sees there with him. (cough mixing the ex boyrfriend and future boyfriend? cough)

An important translation note about the speech that Xiao Zhuo gives to Bai Jiu at the end of ep 20 about forgiveness and being able to return to the shore on time: Zhao Yuanzhou's name, Yuanzhou, literally translated, means "a faraway boat". If you remember, in one of the earlier episodes, the old Mountain God Ying Zhao (Ying Lei's grandfather) talks to him about repentance and forgiveness, and he says something like, "Don't be a faraway boat in the sea of suffering", aka, don't be literally like your name and suffer alone. (It also might even be why he chose that name in the first place, because he believes he has to suffer alone because of everything that he's done.) Here when Xiao Zhuo is speaking to Bai Jiu, the caption says "the sea of suffering is endless. but as long as you return to the shore in time" - but what he actually says is "the sea of suffering is endless, but as long as you //turn the boat around in time//, there will still be a brilliant sunset waiting for you" which is so, so important, especially given the immediate cut to Zhao Yuanzhou's face there. The meaning of the speech is clearly hitting him, but the subtext (at least in my opinion given what has to be deliberate wording) is that he's also remembering what Ying Zhao said to him once upon a time about his own repentance. The writing there is so brilliant I just needed everyone to know!!!!!!!!!

I also think, bc Zhu Yan clearly knew how much worse confinement would be for Li Lun, that he actually should have advocated more for a different punishment, even if that one is death it's like with Qing Geng and Fei - they really want to tell me there is no other wway then to lock them up in one house? the baize godesses really love their confinement... i also agree that one singular human baize godess should not have the desicion on everything - bc who really is she to decide who is evil and good - who gets to be free and who isn't like there are literal actual gods in this world - make a panel of human, demon and god

He's been chained to a rock with nothing to do but dwell on his own pain - of COURSE he hasn't learned anything, Zhu Yan! Crazy thought but maybe if you'd gone to visit him even once things might have worked out differently...? (Also, am I misremembering or did Zhu Yan himself not murder a human in the very first ep just to make a point??) Like you said, it was clear from the flashbacks Li Lun was still quite childlike in terms of his interaction/experience with the human realm, and so he acted out like a child would, but with the power of a millennia old demon. Not saying it was right but frankly I also can't be doing with the Baize Goddesses and their black/white view on punishment - it's all rather unforgiving and lacking in nuance (and I agree with Li Lun that having a random human get to be judge/jury/executioner isn't fair - not exactly impartial! At least have a mixed-species panel!). Also, it's all very well previous Baize Goddess explaining to Zhu Yan that ACTUALLY she was doing Li Lun a favour by binding him cos that way he wouldn't be constantly burning, but did anyone ever think to try and explain that to Li Lun himself? Or be a little less paternalistic and, heaven forbid, maybe even ask him which fate he'd prefer? Sorry, I'm using your comment to vent a bit cos unpopular opinion I know but as much as I enjoy the show, I do find the main trio frequently rather insufferable (at least when they're interacting with the 'baddies') - smug, hypocritical and self-righteous! Whereas I find Li Lun very compelling and deeply moving - he's so clearly just a giant ball of pain and betrayal and there's still something so incredibly childlike about his hurt and the way he lashes out (again which tracks given that solitary confinement is notoriously beneficial for social and emotional development!), which just makes me wish someone (cough Zhu Yan cough) would have tried to approach him with a little compassion, a little grace, instead of 'look who's still a stunted loser' - same way you'd approach a wild animal that's injured, cos in many ways that's effectively what Li Lun is. And the fact Zhu Yan only allows himself to care (and thus only allows Li Lun to see he DOES still care and in fact never stopped) after he's dealt him the death blow breaks my heart. I'm not saying he didn't need to be dealt with, just that a little kindness can go a long way, you know? Not gonna lie, I'm both the 'you don't have all the facts' meme and the 'I know this and I love you' meme when it comes to him!

Episodes 18 and 19: Well, it was really hard not to say anything... but also, kudos to Bai Jiu for always acting like he is the one being betrayed :'D Anyway, Li Lun is one of my absolute fav characters in this - and honestly i kind of get him? like i was with him, the gurads definitely should have been killed, but then he went on a massacre... On the other hand that was maybe his first or second time in the human world and he immediately gets to witness that... Also another reveal: Ying Zhao might have somehow reaised Li Lun too, bc why else would he give both Zhu Yan and Li Lun spending money lol The plot twists are far from over tho, at this point i was questioning where else this show is gonna go xD

Episode 15-17: I can finally scream about hair choice!!!! In case anybody missed it, as far as we can figure, Zhu Yan was kinda raised by YeYe Ying Zhao! And in the flashbacks of young Zhu Yan he wears his hair exactly like Ying Lei does right now, braid an all, probably because YeYe Ying Zhao taught them how to do their hair.... I also have my theories on why exactly "Evil" Zhu Yan only head patted Zhuo Yichen, but full on attacked Pei Sijing and wanting to attack Wen Xiao, but i can't quite talk about it yet... Hopefully I won't forget to explain when the time is right xD (at least a more "practical" theory than just them being in love lol) There are many things to yet be revealed, and lots of forshadowing i definitely did not notice when i watched it the first time My advice: any thought you have on anything, just voice it, it might be true lol

Episodes 11 - 14 (Interim check in): hello again, this time i am not sharing my thoughts all at the same time, because i am behind in watching these xD Important things first: I don't think you saw it in my other comment but i found Cinematographer Hong Wei 洪伟, i am not sure if that is the same as director of photography! and second, another language fun fact: when they are all drunk as hell in episode 14 Zhu Yan calls Zhuo Yichen "Zhuo Xiao Chen" 卓小宸 = he completely messes up the way he says his name / is calling him way more intimate - Xiao Chen is sth that Zhuo Yichens family might call him xD (think of Mysterious Lotus Casebooks use of Xiao Bao and how Li Lianhua will call Fang Duobing Fang Xiaobao when he is reprimanding him lol)

About the tears, i think it's a GuoJingMing(the director) thing. most actors/actresses in his series cry with pretty-stone-faces. i guess he's just obsessed with beauty. some people like it, and some people don't. it's just his style.

I really love the scene in ep 17 and the writer's choice of choosing Xiao Zhuo to have that talk with Zhao YuanZhou. I feel the talk gave ZYZ something to live for, although It might sound harsh, but it's also very true. I guess that's why I like this show, imaging caring so much about someone you are suppose to hate and the constant internal debate Ps: YES, I don't know how that man can cry so beautifully! Especially knowing Tian Jiarui (the actor) is so silly and bright irl.

We have reached the tragic mid season finale, in which the consoling is done between the sapphic and gay pairs, as it should be in a supposedly straight drama. nod nod The absolutely devastating single tears are real, Yan An (Li Lun's actor, first acting role for him, btw) has commented that Tian Jiarui (Zhuo Yichen's actor) has the absolute talent of just doing that and he would like to know how, because it's beautiful. And the director thinks so too, it keeps happening :DDD Also the flashbacks of young Zhu Yan and Li Lun... T.T ♥ the devastation of him after Li Lun got banished/sealed... and the call-out from Xiao Zhuo that Zhu Yan should stop holding back when it comes to confronting his ex... Everybody got another scoop of trauma on their plate these last 3 episodes. Can't wait for your reactions to what comes next! ♥

Episode 6 - 11: This time i'll keep it shorter :) I found for Cinematographer Hong Wei 洪伟 and they have only worked on one other thing so far, which is "My Journey to You" and are currently working on "Love in the Clouds", another drama with Hou Ming Hao - I am uncertain tho if that is who you are searching for as there is not a lot of information ^-^' I am also very excited for Fu Shan Hai (the one with Ying Lei's actor as well as Cheng Yi), what i have seen it's gonna be an amazing martial arts drama again! I also just love any kind of isekai/transmigration story so this is perfect! I am also eagerly waiting for Cheng Yi's "Hero Legends" because Xiao Shun Yao is gonna be his costar again! (Di Feisheng) Now a fun fact: In episode 11 when Zhuo Yichen calls for Bai Jiu ("Xiao Jiu"), Zhu Yan calls for Zhuo Yichen the first time without the mister! "Xiao Zhuo", and then calls him only Xiao Zhuo for the rest of this episode at least xD

(eps 8-11) Yes everyone is gorgeous and tragic and extremely queer here. The polycule is thriving, Yichen is starting to perhaps flirt back with Zhu Yan, and sibling bonds / friendships being made too, good times - I can't wait for what's to come<3 Also to add another series in the making to keep an eye out for is "Veil of Shadows", it has an interesting mix of familiar actors! From FoF it has Cheng Duling (Wen Xiao), Omid (Zhen Mei from the evil demon hunting group), Wang Duo (Yichen's older brother), Tian Jiarui (Zhuo Yichen) and Yan An (Li Lun). Then it also has Zeng Shunxi (Fang Duobing from MLC), Cao Yuchen (Jin Zixuan from MDZS) - and also Xia Zhiguang (Ruan Nanzhu, one of the leads from The Spirealm) and Chang Huasen (Shi Qingxuan from TGCF). It's also directed by Guo Jingming like FoF.

The actors who play Xiao Zhuo and Cheng Huang the beautiful puppet-making wish-granting demon were leads in another show together before this one, by the same directing / cinematography / costuming team called My Journey To You and they played brothers / cousins / whatever, who were DECIDEDLY obsessed with each other, in that hate-everybody-in-the-world-except-you way, and it was amazing. There are really cute pictures / BTS footage from Fangs of Fortune where they're so happy and cute about being reunited!

Episodes 3 to 5: ahhh i am so excited to watch this ((again) with you! as always, i come with (maybe usless) information xD First of some general stuff: The episodes have an ending scene where the actors dance, and it will actually change every view episodes! Because additional actors will appear depending on the arc, i wrote them down so there are no character spoilers (as in, it's always the episode before new actors are seen), if you do want to watch them, the ending dance otherwise has no spoilers for any of the story telling: 6, 11, 16, 24, 25, 28, 34 - I occasionaly watched them becuase it gave me a breather and something to smile after certain episodes... I would at least consider watching 25 and 34 as they have no dance, but just cute shots of the actors together! Now more important things: This show has a crucial extra episode again (c-dramas love to do these for some reason) And there is an official soundtrack, where literally almost the whole main cast has their own song they sing (with fitting character lyrics) - in case you are interested to listen to it sometime! Now some fun facts: The actor who plays Li Lun is called Yan An and he is a member of the K-Pop group Pentagon! Where as the actress who plays Pei Sijing is called Cheng Xiao, who was in the K-Pop group Cosmic Girls :) And to end it, some interesting language bits: Zhuo Yichen is called by most "Xiao Zhuo Daren" which roughly translates to "Young Mr. Zhuo" or "Little Mr. Zhuo" Or just "Xiao Zhuo" by Wen Xiao, and later on others and our Xiao Bai Jiu calls him "Xiao Zhuo Ge" which is hilarious bc it literally is translated to "Young / Little Zhuo Big Brother" Also note that as far as i know 小 is usually used to call younger friends / younger relatives / children, or someone of lower status as you (like servants) - which is why i have no idea why Xiao Jiu calls him that - maybe he just heard everyone call him like that and adapted it idk :'D If you remember, in the first episodes Zhu Yan repeated the "Xiao Zhuo" with a mocking face bc he probably also found the "小" kinda funny xD (pls keep in mind that my knowlege of the language ist still quite limited)

I feel ya. I still am in depression session but asian dramas give me air to stay. Once I started I got hzperfixated....my hyperfixation reached zo asian drink, snack and food......soju and makgeolli.....i want everything south korean atm because buying from Chinese markets unless they are small business. Btw. so far I kow, apart froma few smaller channels Brittanys and Jeanette Hennings patreons are the best and not too pricey. They are kind....none of the as kind as Brittany (1 euro). Now after actually watching the two episodes (once alone, once with you) I really hope you decide to continue watching and filming it - i know it will probably make everything very troublesome, but it seems to be a really good show! It's also very highly regarded in right now and seen as the best c-drama of 2024 - which might make it a good thing for the youtube algorithm etc :3 But also do not stress yourself - and no one is gonna hold it against you even if you watch it alone - after all you are supposed to enjoy it! i only noticed it my second watch that Wen Xiao is played by the same actress as Qiao Wanmina from MLC!

quick transl note: the demons in fof are chinese 妖 'yao' which, in chinese mythology, are spirits/'monsters' that cultivate human forms from animal/inanimate objects (e.g. trees, white apes - zhu yan). the christian concept of demons doesnt apply at all here

Just curious would you be interested in reacting to a show called “School spirits”? A teenage girl dies at school and her ghost tries to figure out how it happened. It currently has two seasons, 16 episodes total and each episode is over 40 minutes long. And it does have queer characters.

I completly forgot which episode 19 was and then we got to the prison scene and yeah... that one has to be the worst cliffhanger in the show. I envy her a bit for experiencing the show for the first time, but not for that wait on this one.

So... Tech troubles made you have the WORST cliffhanger ever. I was like, cool cool, Brittany won't throw her computer out of the window, because she will watch episode 20 directly. And then, UH OH... 😆
