Desert Hearts (1985)

Part One: Vidyard, WeTransfer

Part Two: Vidyard, WeTransfer

Many thanks to Astrid for the commission, what a great little film. <3

*I incorrectly refer to this as a 90s film in the reaction, because I would've sworn this was made in the early nineties. 1985 makes the movie even more impressive tbh. They did this??? In the EIGHTIES??? Iconic.

First time watch for me and wow I absolutely loved it. Cay was vibrantly stunning and Vivian had a quieter but no less compelling beauty that I really enjoyed. What a wonderful little sapphic film ❤️

Hello my dear how are you

Elon Manley investment

The one thing that I love about your movie nights/after dark videos is that I get to watch a lot of things that I would've never watched by myself. I spent my teen years trying to catch up with older queer movies as much as I could, but the majority were too tragic or outright bad, and I ended up giving up on that plan. So thank you for giving me the drive to try. Clearly, I missed out on some gems that I wouldn't have discovered if it weren't for you and this wonderful little corner that you've created.

This was lovely. I was in my early thirties when the film came out, but somehow I never got around to viewing it until now.

Some things I'd like to add: This movie is as far as I know the first sapphic movie that ended on a positive note making it for film what The Price Of Salt/Carol was for literature. I think the script is just brilliant with all these characters that come to life so clearly and all the relationships they have and many quotes have stuck with me since watching it. I regard it as one of my favourite films alongside Carol, which is kinda funny because they both take place in the 50s and feature a relationship between a younger brunette and an older blond woman although the characters plots and settings are of course quite different. Cay especially is one of my alltime favourite characters with her confidence and certainty of who she is.

I remember watching it when it came out! (yes, I am an old)

glad you liked it can't wait to watch the reaction:) I feel this one is very underrated so it is nice that I could get it some time in the spotlight so more people can see it and enjoy it
